Surprising turns of events!!

Well I did one that surprised me, the person I was playing, and some people that were watching.

Had an empty raider with shock prow looking at a Bloodthister so I thought "What the &#@*, lets try it." I tank shock the Bloodthister and he Death or Glory the raider fluffing all the hits and I speared the Bloodthister on the shock prow. Well that isn't all. After moving the Raider the full distance it hit a Soulgrinder in the last inch of the distance. I caused the Soulgrinder to explode and killed a five man squad of plaguebearers in the range of the explode. After all that my raider made the FF save and didn't take any damage. After I made the save the other player said. "He could have at least died doing it, but no he had to live like some type of Super Hero." The raider wrecked after landing on terrian after tubro boosting to the other side of the board. He just shook his head and just looked at the Raider for five minutes while I finished my movement.

Love it. It's why we play the game, for moments like that. I salute that Raider.

A few days ago, a buddy who plays Dark Eldar points out to me that Ghostplate gives a 6+ inv save. Somehow I'd missed that and made a mental note. Cue my game last night when the Duke and his Trueborn take a flurry of hits as the Necrons down his Venom. I opt to take a hit on his Shadow field, a single dice and his first save of the game. Of course he fails.

The next turn a Necron lord in his barge arcs over head and swipes his warsythe at the Duke. Instant death awaits, but wait...he has Ghostplate I cry. I roll the dice and it pops a 6. Then in my turn the Duke shoots down the barge with his blast pistol and kills the lord in combat.

Good times. I lost the game however, but still...

I have had a couple of surprising moments, although not all of them were in my favour.

My opponnent had Logan Grimnar and a squad of grey hunters. After my shooting phase there were 4 marines standing and Logan wih 2 wounds left. My archon (agoniser, drugs shadowfield) assaulted, managed to kill the regular marines and saved against Logan's retaliation. Logan had to take no retreat saves and failed 2.


During another a venom took 7 penetrating hits and I had to make flicker field saves. I took my dice and said that I was confident he'd make the saves. My opponent's mouth dropped open when I made 6 out of 7. Of course that's when my luck failed when he rolled on the damage table for the remaining hit: exploded.

Against a Tau player I charged 7 hellions (extra attack drugs) into a crisis suit with 2 shield drones. 2 turns later I ran out of hellions with the crisis suit still standing.

Most recent amusing surprising moment's got to be having my tri-Disintegrator Ravager get shot at close range by a squad of 7 Eldar Fire Dragons. Opponent scored a handful of penetrating & glancing hits, all of which I saved with the flat out cover save.
He then assaulted and missed with all of his melta bombs.
Possibly not quite as surprising as some things, but considering my bizarrely masochistic love of melta bombs I'd been hoping for sumat a bit more explosive...

Then again the Ravager had popped a Hydra just by weight of fire from its Disintegrators into it's rear armour the turn before.

Now re-thinking that entire game I was probably most surprised to wreck a Leman Russ Punisher with my one and only Dark Lance on the board firing into it's side armour. Now sure it's a reasonably expected outcome... kind of, but I always imagine my Dark Lances are going to be irrelevant unless I've actually got a few to throw at a target.

Having three warriors and my Archon survive the full fury of the Punisher cannon was also a good moment...

I had a squad of 6 Kabalite warriors (started @ 10 but got shot) hold up a 6 (i think) man squad of DA bikers for 3 turns, we both lost only one unit. Who says you cant make a 7/8 5 up saves? Game was called on time, but that combat showed no end in sight, except for my looming Talos.

Same game had my raiders land 1 hit on his rhino(s) and my ravager only glances! Ravager also survived typhoon missles, melta guns, las cannons and assaults to lose only 2 weapons. Again, 5+ saves seemed to be my friend that game!
