Hi all!
I am from the Netherlands, and live near Rotterdam. And even though I have been reading on this forum, I never replied anywhere. However, I am getting more and more motivated to start using my models. So instead of continuing to lurk, I decided it was time for an introduction.
I started collecting a few Warhammer models back during 6th Edition, but when the 5th Edition Codex was still the most recent. I just never got as far as to use them. After glueing, I tried to paint the Kabalites and Wytches from the starting box, but came to the conclusion that I suck at painting, or even deciding on what colours to use. Also, I didn't know many people who also played warhammer (just 1), and the GW wasn't really nearby enough to visit there regularly. So aside from not painting, I played a game with my models only once, which went terrible since at that point we could only hit flyers with sixes since we had no skyfire rules... Seriously, my army got crushed by ONE Deamon character with flying. After I bought my first house in 2014, I didn't have any time for Warhammer anymore, so all my models were just sitting in a box for quite a while... *insert sad music*
BUT!! A few years later now, stuff changed. First of all, I know a bit more people playing Warhammer. Second, I now have a girlfriend, who loves painting my models. :3 About half my army is painted now, with the rest soon to follow. (The credit for the paintjob on the models in the below pics should go to her.) With the 8th Edition rules out, me and that first friend I knew with a Warhammer army got all exited to start again.
I do have a bunch of models already, and could put about 2500 points on the table (including some Harlequins), but consider myself a major noob since I have not played at all aside from that one terrible battle in an earlier edition.
My friends and I are purely playing for fun, and we mostly get models because the way they look, and not necessarily because they are the best choice. I also hate putting too much of the same thing on the table, so don't expect me to use Venoms in groups of 6. 2 of the same unit is usually kind of the limit for me.
Also in advance, forgive me if I ask about all the abbreviations you guys use. Every time I read some 3 letter abbreviation in this forum, I am instantly clueless. (I could really use a legend for all those things)
In short, I am new, eager to learn, and will take any advice from anyone.
To finish my post, here's some pics of the paintjobs so far.

Welcome to the Dark City!
Your girlfriend is a good painter! Are these her first miniatures?
I hope you'll find everyone is as friendly as I have found them to be. Here are a few common abbreviations I've seen.
I don't include any of these to insult your intelligence, I'm just trying to be helpful. I hope I achieve that.
PfP or PFP: Power From Pain (the most common Drukhari ability) HWB: Haywire blaster HL: Heat Lance DL: Dark Lance CD: Combat Drugs SF: Shadow Field Kab: Kabalite warrior GEQ: (Imperial) Guardsman Equivalent MEQ: Marine Equivalent TEQ: Terminator Equivalent SM: Space Marines CSP: Chaos Space Marines DG: Death Guard TS: Thousand Sons AM: Adeptus Mechanicus or sometimes Astra Militarum CM: Cult Mechanicus (have not seen this one a lot) SB: Sisters of Battle GK: Grey Knights Inq: Inquisition DW: Deathwatch SW: Space Wolves BA: Blood Angels DA: Dark Angels CD: Chaos Demons IK: Imperial Knights CK: Chaos Knights DE: Dark Eldar/Drukhari CE: Craftworld Eldar Harlies: Harlequins Orks: Orks Crons: Necrons Nids: Tyranids

Thanks! This is indeed a very helpful list.
And yes. These are the first miniatures she painted. I started on the wyches myself, but she also finished them. The rest is all her job. She used the more simple models to get the hang of it, and is working up to painting Harlequins, Scourges and Urien. We also need to decide what to do with the bases, but we'll get to that as well. So far, I love what she did with the transports and the Wracks. They really look like sick bloody butchers. After she finishes with transport crew and the rest of the Wracks, I think she'll start with Hellions. Meanwhile, I'll stick some more Scourges together. By the time our codes is released, I'll have an army ready I think.

That's awesome! I am so happy you and your girlfriend can share in the hobby joy together, I know it is great when I do the same with my fiancee. I am so glad you found my list helpful and I hope other members on the forum find this and contribute to the list - it's hard enough learning these acronyms as a native speaker! Best of luck in all things about the hobby!

I thought I should show off my girfriends paintjob on my Talos. :3 She painted all the different arm and tail options, so I can switch them depending on how I equipped my Talos on my army list. I asked her to make it look like a bloody nightmare on steroids, and she delivered.

Too bad you can't see the colour shifting paint on for example the masks. Makes it really trippy.

Mostly by not using a brush but a sponge. Don't whipe, but just poke when the paint is already thikening. Also, I think she didn't use GW paint for that, but I don't know what she did use.

Good news CptMetal, the paint she used for the rust comes from your country. Here's a picture of it.
