I am collecting Dark Eldar army, but from my previous army (Craftworld Eldar) i have enough Clowns, so i decided to make a list with a basis on them in the Dark Eldar codex.
So, basically, what does Dark Eldar codex have to offer regarding harlequins? Both codex have same prices and stats for clowns, but the dark eldar offers thing that naturally associates with harlies.Webway portal.
Webway portal it is then. Means mostly foot army, little to none vechicles. So for 1500 list i started with 2 units of clowns full except troup master. And 2 haemunculi in one HQ slot (i suppose clowns like to jest at poor fellas with delusions of godhood) with 2 webway portals. 2+ portals i decided was vital, cause they provide some flexibility.Better than that - they can set their portals completely risk free, under hallucinations of Veil of Tears.
Now troops. Not much choice here - winner is obviously Helions and their pimpdaddy Baron Sathonyx, Hell Father, one who sees all. I choose them mostly when i remembered how i used rangers with Harlies to get stealth cover in plain field.Since Baron does provide stealth for his unit they were some natural choice.WIth Haemies unit can start on the board right away having 3+ cover save and fnp.Not bad for Dark Eldar.
Or
Unit can start inside the webway and be ready to assault as soon as it came from reserve.Or deepstrike where nessesary.
Both Harlies and Hellions have hit'n'run. Both provide some threat to vechicles. (harlies more ofcoarce). Helions can be good delivery system for Harlequin assault.
But more important - there will be targets i cannot crack, especially if things went wrong or its just Helions and not clowns in the assault. Lots of S4 (and even S5 with Pain Tokens, or even S6 with drugs) is of coarse good and fine but sometimes marines just make all of their armor saves, or they are fnp blood angles and as the saying goes Red Marinez Livez Longaah. So in this case we can hit'n'run with both units and have good clamped D6 consolidated bunch of enemies.
Now what to do with them.
Mostly 2 options. Either to have Razorwing Jetfighters (nightshielded one) to feed them some S6 Large Blasts and generally serve a vechicle supresser during game. You can even take 2+ poison, pinning rockets to continue your theme of annoying pining.Or serve as a reserve dweller if there is Hydra Flak on the board.Which there is in my parts.Thats more expensive of 2 options.
Second option - Talos Pain Engines from webway portals, armed with Twin Linked Heat Lances and Twin Linked Liquifier(S4 AP D6 Template).Liquifiers provide much needed anti 3+ templates, and in 1/3 cases in ignores fnp as well being AP2.That is best flamer in the game, hands down. They also have some parody of melta and are Mostruos Creatures, which means more antitech. There is also choice to take 24" Haywire Blaster instead of 18" S6 Melta Lance, same price.
Dont know what to chose here.Monstuos Creatures have of coarse suffers a lot in this edition, but there is a limit how bad you can be , when you are monster.Still 2D6 on Armor Penetration.
Main problems here will be grey knights, who can just kill monsters with force weapons and normal dark eldar venom spam.
I dicided to start with Talos first.
So here is list itself.Give me some thoughts on it, please.Maybe i need more troops.Maybe one less monster and even more troops. Thanks for your time, if you read all this down here.
