DE Story Progression

Most of the other Codex releases pushed the story forward slightly. Tau talked about the 4th Sphere Expansion and what happened to them (they went into the warp and got spooked). All I see in our codex is that Vect has faked his own death and declared himself a Living Muse. Nothing about the Gate, or how the City is dealing with the massive demon invasion. No discussion about what Ynnari is doing to the DE society.

I hope I am missing something, can someone point me to where the story progression happens (other than pages 46/47)

I think GW is going to do a Release just for Vect in about 6-9months and will release some info them. I hope i am correct

Lord Malwrack and Mistress Baeda are back after having been absent from Commorragh for two whole editions. That's a tangential moving forward of the DE story...

There was a decent section explaining how the gates cillapse has been handled with use of pocket dimensions to pen in the daemons. Did you read the book or just skim it?

It also mentions Vect is okay with Lelith hanging out with them too.

Also, after a reread I'm not 100% he faked his death. The carnage from the massacre may well have brought him back as well. It's fairly vague.

There was at least a little more info than Vect dying and coming back. Seems like the whole daemon invasion inflicted a lot of damage, but it was handled by plunging daemon invested places into that pit the dark eldar made, and the last little blurb on the timeline was the Ynarri were preparing to go on a sort of crusade against Slaanesh, but Vect is planning some sort of plot to deal with the Ynarri.

My guess is overall the Ynarri haven't had a huge impact on dark eldar society. Their ideology doesn't really seem like it would appeal to the average backstabbing dark eldar. I think it was even mentioned somewhere the only reason Leilith sent some cult of strife wyches to join up with the Ynarri was to figure out their whole avoiding Slaanesh taking their souls, not because she honestly wanted to join up.

Yes! New boxed set with Vect on his Dias accompanied by plastic Incubi with all new rules. Havethem fighting whatever new crap they want to release for Ynnari.

I would think it would be far more likely that a new Ynarri set would be set up against a Slaanesh release for emperor's children, since down the road it's likely world eaters and emperor's children will follow DG and TS in becoming their own codexes.

I kinda hope they never update Slaanesh, I can’t resist that temptation.

To be fair, there ARE rumours about an emperor's children book at the end of the year.
Maybe, just maybe, it's in combination with some stuff for us. But I'm afraid I'd probably those new death cult Eldar kids.

There's a ton of rumors as to what GW will do later this year. Emp's kids would be cool if they released Fulgrim and new Noise Marines.

Still ,that would make 3 daemon primarchs to one loyalist primarch. Wolves have yet to get a release and neither have orks.

Not saying I wouldn't be stoked to see Vect on the table but, man there's a lot going on in the world of 40k narrative wise right now just with the small amount of action that occurred at the end of seventh.

I thought the bit about the Vorgani cult gaining popularity was interesting. They graft on Genestealer mutated parts to their own bodies. Seems like a rich seam for some cool conversion opportunities. Tyranid/Genestealer Cult parts could be used for character conversions. Plenty of stuff from the Tyranid range could be used for Sslyth, Scourges, Warp Beasts, Grotesques, Wracks, Clawed Fiends etc. Could make for a unique and interesting looking army.

I've got a suspicion that what's eventually going to happen in 8th edition is that we'll start seeing more "crossover" factions, like how Genestealer Cults currently allow you to take Tyranid and Imperial Guard detachments in the same army.

The Vorgani seem like a very good possible candidate.

They found some crystals on Necron worlds that holds back the daemons.

Also I suspect the amiguity around Vect in the codex implies they are going to do something further with that plot, also the tortured throne plot may tie in. At any rate it seems like the Drukhari are more heavily invested in the overall story progression of 40k now. In the lore video on Warhammer TV's twitch, the writer of the codex hinted that he would like the Drukhari to somehow be united under one leader and cause more chaos to the galaxy. Maybe now that Vect is a living muse he will rally all the forces of Commoragh to wage a war against the Ynnari. We also don't know what form Vect is taking now. Did he physically die and be reborn? Did he just fake his death and is still a normal Eldar? The text specified that all his clone vials were destroyed. Perhaps they intend to make him into a sort of anti-Yncarne. Almost godlike? I have feeling if this is so, if he comes back to the tabletop he will not be with his Dais of Destruction but could be some kind of dark avatar.

The Codex actually has a good amount of info post Gathering Storm. The Gate was shattered and the Dysjunction only beaten back after an ancient pact with the Incubi Shrines was called upon, very different from the Coven and Mandrake side in GS.

The Gate remains broken and has been renamed the Chasm of Woe and is a pit straight into the Warp. I believe a vigil stands guard around it, and occasionally they throw someone down to distract the daemons.

It's mentioned that they have rearranged the city to put more paths between the Chasm and the original Gate to try and slow the incursions, and have even started raiding Tomb Worlds looking for Blackstone to put around the Chasm.

As for the Ynnari, Vect allows it for now because he has plans in motion for dealing with them. He mostly despises Yvraine and finds it fortunate that Lelith has taken such an interest in her as well.

My prediction is that Ynaari won't get a Codex, but once the current system of "get every book out" is done they'll get a new campaign book.
Said book can encompass more than just the Ynarri Triumvirate, but also maybe go into the opposition Vect represents, and use that as a chance to add new Drukhari characters (at the very least Vect) who are part of the "Vect Faction".
It would also be an opportunity for much needed updates to, for example, the Phoenix Lords.

Wow ... The story progression (while not seeming like much) has set up a lot of future possibilities ... I'll have to keep up with it so I can mold the story of the little part of the webway that my kabal/cult/and coven take up, which, thanks to the story line of the gathering storm, was on the front lines of the deamon incusion into the dark city when the gate broke ... I hope they do a box set of Drukhari with vect, malys, and sliscuss (or counts as)

Perhaps his was the final skull that Kherudruakh needed? Maybe Vect planned all of this to happen? Signs point to "yes".

Nah Vect left the city to chase Yvraine when Kheradraukh finished his collection.
But Vect does have some of the oldest pacts with the Mandrakes so it's highly likely he let them kill him.

Ty all, thanks for the summery. TBH I had just skimmed the codex, but going through it again I found the other two pages that progressed the fluff, along with most of the minor comments.

The Chasm of Woe is just such a DE thing. Keep pushing another of the finite webway sub-realms in the path of the deamons, thus solving the problem forever. XD

I don't know if it counts as story progression but we found out what Lelith's reason for joining up with Yvraine was at least. That being dragging Lucius the Eternal's sorry ass back to the arena for an ass kicking.

Also, is it just me or was there a bit of a retcon in the codex? I could be wrong but I seem to remember the mandrakes were credited with pushing back the daemons and basically saving the city but the codex seems to remove any mention of their involvement and claim it was the incubi who kicked the daemons out of Commorragh after Vect called in all his favors instead.

When you have a super-special destiny and everyone loves you and you haven't actually DONE ANYTHING WORTHWHILE other than exist and have a destiny, and you get a special hunky mysterious boyfriend, and a cyan psychic cat that soulbonds with you and is the most special kitty ever, and the hottest and best girl EVER is your BFF even though she hated you at first, and you show up and tongue-kiss a Primarch all better, and the Imperium doesn't mind even though you're an alien because you're just that special,
you're a goddamn Mary Sue.
