I've taken one or two liberties with the origianl fluff, but here it is:
Introducing...
The Kabal of the Obsidian Serpent
“ Before the universe was young
The serpent twisted, burrowed through eternity
Clad in darkest stone,
It forged a labyrinth, of pasts gone and futures unbound
Now it slumbers
Awaiting it’s Master, it’s wielder
To twist it’s sinuous coils between realities once more.”
Excerpted from an ancient Eldar Mythic Cycle
The tale of Duke Travelliath Sliscus’ vanishing from Commoragh is still infamous, despite the millennia that have passed since the event. Already famous for his unpredictability and love of incredibly daring and audacious stunts, as well as a smouldering contempt for those who inherited their power rather than fighting tooth and nail for it, the Serpent left Commoragh with a wild explosion of action that left the Dark City reeling. On that one fateful day, Sliscus stole the prize flagships of three of the most ancient Kabals, set off a chain of Haywire explosions that collapsed the whole of Port Venomspar, slaughtering hundreds of Commorrites (simply because the Port’s Ruler, Lady Darquath Xhorlaenii, had beat him in a game of Naerhulre two decades earlier), plunged the Kabal of the Dagger Iridiscent and the Kabal of the Searing Darkness into murderous civil war through a series of fake transmissions, and released two thousand captured Orks into the famously snobbish Arena of Bloodied Flawlessness, resulting in the deaths of two score of various powerful aristocratic houses. At the end of that fateful day, a thousand Commorrites cursed Sliscus’ name to eternity, and a thousand more swore vengeance upon the Duke. Should Sliscus ever make his presence known again in Commorragh, he will be hunted unto death by innumerable enemies.
Who can resist a challenge like that?
Unbeknownst to any save his most trusted lieutenants, the Serpent has returned to the Dark City and, under the guise of the inscrutable Count Lorak’z’haenth Morlanne, his risen to become the leader of the Kabal of the Obsidian Serpent (formerly the Kabal of the Tortured Star until Sliscus, masquerading as a mercenary kabalite, assassinated the unfortunate and surprised Archon Ver’sallenth and assumed command). Any dissenters were brought to Sliscus’ personal torture chambers by his elite Serpent Guard, and within a week, the newly renamed Kabal was ready for Sliscus’ new plan.
For it was not simply the Duke’s intent to outwit his most hated foes once more. Sliscus returned to the Dark City because it’s thousands of Webway portals gave him what he needed – access to every corner of the galaxy, in the hunt for his prize:
The Obsidian Serpent is one of the most ancient Eldar myths; a vast, extradimensional creature said to have been one of the first creatures ever to have existed. The cycle describes how it’s twisting created a second Webway – that connected not just space, but points in time itself. One who bore it’s physical focus – a small, flawlessly crafted obsidian figurine of a twisting serpent - could command the creature, gaining mastery over eternity itself. Such a prize would make it’s bearer nigh unstoppable, if it has not been lost down the millions or even billions of years since it’s creation, if it ever existed at all.
Sliscus, however, is maniacally convinced that the Obsidian Serpent does exist, and that it his right to find it once and for all. To this end, his Kabal stages near constant raids all across the Galaxy, at any point where the Duke’s innumerable agents and spies hint the artifact may be hidden. The Serpent has attacked the fortress-ship of the Dark Librarian Barakkos, the Collector of Souls, carved a bloody trail through the Shrine World of Nathulmos Beta, staged a daring raid on the beleaguered planet Darathaq Quadrus (already in the iron grip of a full Tyranid invasion by Hive Fleet Kraken; when the Kabal’s warriors appeared out of nowhere, a moment of hope was given to the desperate Guardsmen stationed there. Such notions were lost when, having dispatched the surprised horde of bio-monstrosities, the elder immediately turned on the hapless humans) and raided countless other systems, with varying degrees of success(it is argued that Sliscus’ constant harrying of the forces of Huron Blackheart is simply because the Duke wants vengeance for the disastrous Massacre at Traitors Rim.). All leads to the figurine have so far proved to be false, so it seems that the Kabal of the Obsidian Serpent shall reside within Commorragh for the time being.
This is becoming an escalating problem for the Serpent, as each passing day brings a higher possibility of his many enemies learning of his presence. To keep their secret, Sliscus has forged alliances with almost all aspects of Commorrite life, from the graceful Wych Cult of Agony Eternal, a rising star among the Arenas made popular by their techniques of not killing their victims, but simply paralyzing them with inventive and agonising strikes, to the feral and utterly animalistic Hellion gang known as the Gash-fiends, who have forsaken any kind of civilisation to become as unpredictable and vicious and wild beasts. Should the Serpent find his prize, the Galaxy may find itself at Sliscus’ mercy – but until then, he plots unknown in the midst of his most zealous foes, and strikes at anywhere taking his fancy.
Any comments are welcomed. Criticism is welcomed (of course it is, I'm a Dark Eldar, they're all masochists at heart). If you liked it, there's definitely more to follow...
Thanks for reading!
