How to start Wych or Coven cult??

I want to start with Wych Cults or Wracks.

Looking at the other roasters, I saw two cults, not a single cult.
How should a start model be purchased if it works with Wych Cults?


1. If I start with Wych Cults, Start Collecting! What model should I buy with Drukhari?

2. What do Wych Cults like between Venom and Raider?

3. For Wracks, is spam simply a bad choice?

4. Is there a lot of difficulty with a single cult?

I'm curious about Drukhari's basic strategy or tactics

The new start collecting box is a good place to start. getting 2 could be better because you'll need 2 succubus and a bunch of wyches for a battalion. every unit in this detachment has to be from the same cult and the cult you want can help determine how many of each model you want to buy. If you want big units of wyches then cursed blade is good to help with morale. If you want smaller units then cursed blade is still good with the extra strength but the others become more viable.

The start collecting box comes with a venom. troop transport is also a choice based on unit sizes. you can't transport a unit larger then 5 in a venom. if you want big units then you'll need raiders to be able to transport them (10 wyches in a raider).

wracks are typically just your troop fill to have a coven detachment. grotesques and talos are the selling points of coven. You get as few wracks as cheap as possible so you can spend points on the other coven units.

I think your last question is because of confusion with the obsession rules. every unit in a detachment must have the same obsession, the same kabal, cult, or coven. your big battalion of wyches will all be from the same cult. if you want a second detachment then you can take a different cult. I have not seen any armies with multiple cults. You will see multiple kabals because black heart is necessary for the vect stratagem but the other options have better buffs for your units. prophets of flesh is hands down the best and there is no reason to take a different coven. Even with 2 detachments you would probably take 2 prophets of flesh. red grief is good for a second small detachment that you want to rush forward with hellions and reavers.

I agree with SK-84, that if you want to start a wych cult then 2 start collecting boxes are a great way to go. Add a raider and a box of scourge and you will have plenty of options and about 750+ pts to play with. Also if you dont put the "hangers on" on your Venoms and Raider you would have enough bodys for another small Wych squad. I'm afraid I have less to advise about covens as I currently have none.

For a coven start, the first thing you want to do is get a haemonculus and a box of wracks.

This gets you started not only with how your models will look like, how you'll need to paint the, etc. But also gives the base for a detachment.

From there, I personally went for a talos, followed by another, but you may want to go the different route.

Your best bet would be grotesques or a talos, as that gives the damage and survivability than coven is famed for, and also expands the detachment.

From there, just continue getting what models you want, depending if you want more wracks, grots, or heavy support. Eventually you'll probably want to get another haemonculus or Urien, but that won't be from the get-go.
