Custom Obsessions Combinations

I've got a question.

In the past I've frequently run lists of melee Coven units backed up by Kabal for fire support.

However, with traits such as Dark Technomancers, do you think Kabal are even needed now? Could you reasonably just go all-Coven and rely on firepower from Raiders, Venoms and Talos (plus a few Hexrifles and Ossefactors)?

I absolutely think it's viable. Will it be the strongest possible drukhari list? Probably not, but I think pure coven is going to have pretty reasonable firepower. If you're taking somewhere in the realm of 4 venoms and 4 raiders with dissies, it won't make up for ravagers but it's pretty reasonable, especially with dark technomancers, and talos shooting can't be ignored either if you're taking splinter cannons ans haywire blasters.

Wrack shooting I'm still not sure on since liqufiers are still a little expensive, but I do want to give a squad of 10 with 3x liqufiers a try.

Pretty much. Space marines get multiple tanks in every slot, we get 3 ravagers and have to deal with it

What marine tanks can be fielded in squadrons now? I thought that was a thing of rhe past, I've certainly never seen marine vehicle squadrons used. Guard tanks on the other hand, yes they do get that ability, plus tank commanders.

I didnt mean squadrons. I mean that there are multiple options for tanks in heavy Support, and at least space marines have tanks/armor in almost every other battlefield role

I wouldnt say almost every battlefield role, but yes I do understand what you mean, marines have a plethora of armored options in the elite slot fron dreadnoughts, and loads of tanks in heavy support. We're never going to compete with having that many, but honestly I still think the rule of 3 is a good thing, it prevents overspamming the best options. Between ravagers and razorwings, we can still take plenty of heavily armed vehicles.

I don't think we can, really. We're sort of suffering from our army line being revamped in 5th edition, just before the introduction of Knights and super heavies, and not having any new units since then. We just don't have any units that pack a really huge punch and we're severely limited in the number of heavy weapons that we can take compared to most other factions.

Test of Skill helps with this a bit.

I suppose that's a fair point, I sometimes feel like I struggle dealing with an influx of t8 vehicles like knights, executioners etc. I definetly think dark technomancers and test of skill help a fair bit though. Dark technomancers in particular makes dissies wound anything not t10 on 4s with 3 damage, and haywire blasters cause mortals on +3s. Problem of course is there's only so many platforms for covens to get those weapons, dissies in particular are tough as you're forced into taking a lot of raiders.

Based on my practice games so far, five DT Raiders will handily bring down an Executioner. Six DT Haywire Talos will also. Haven’t tried any of the new stuff against Knights though but I imagine DT Haywire and dissies give pure Coven the tools to present a credible threat to Knights in shooting now.

If you're running all your raiders as coven, yeah I could definetly see a combination of dissie raiders and haywire talos being solid anti-vehicle shooting support.

Other than that, remember that Drazhar+Ynnari Incubi are amazing against veichles too. I'm using Drazhad as warlord and I must say that is rocking in every game. I know that that cost a lot (no cp regain, no traits on Succ+Haemi) but trying new Obsessions I don't need them for real. If you know how to.engage, he is a beast. Seriously, try him out, he saves me some games (the last one for example, being able to cut trought 6 IF Centurion,s overwatch and killing 3 and half of them).
D4 on 6s + Hatred Eternal is nearly mandatory.

Between fire and melee we can deal pretty easy with any veichle.in the game (and usually the best way still ignore them and kill all the other stuff anyway).

There is no doubt Drazhar is much stronger than he use to be, but I wouldn't go that far. He's not cutting through a knight or executioner at full health. I certainly do think though he could finish one off near death.

I'm also not sold on giving up warlord traits on other characters to take one on drazhar. Depends on my list really, if I have a detachment from all 3 subfactions, I want alliance of agony, if not then yes maybe I'll give Drazhar one.
