| Does GW just throw darts at the DE catalog when choosing what to put in DE box sets? Nothing here makes sense, which is a common theme in our recent boxes I've noticed.
Instead, have:
1 Archon 20 Kabalites 2 Raiders 1 Razorwing 5 of the new Incubi (for those who don't want the Craftworld stuff).
There. You've got a nice 600 point Kabal detachment. I'm really not sure why we keep seeing this random assortment of units that make no sense.

| I often think GW is not making these boxes with detachments in mind. Look at some of the other army boxes, they are hardly amazing detachments on their own, and for our army you have the added difficulty of many units not going together in a detachment.
I'm fine with most of what's in the box, that's good enough for me. Any player starting out dark eldar, or with a moderate sized collection that needs expending can make pretty good use of this box and I think that's what matters.

It would be nice if they changed the rules to say "If you add coven or cult in a kabal detachment, they don't benefit the obsession. If A kabal detachment possess more kabal units than non-kabal, kabals can keep the benefits of their obsessions, even if there are other subfactions in it" In practice, I would prefer a fourth Obsessions table for mercenary and other faction units. For example in Kabal detachment we can make with this battleforce box, in addition we could give to Reavers and talos a common minor bonus (reroll 1 to hit on shooting OR Combat phase, M+2, Charge move+1...)

| I'd be happy with just deciding on what Kabal/Cult/Coven any given detachment belongs to and just say that any models from that Kabal/Cult/Coven in that detachment benefit from the relevant obsession etc. So Wyches could be in a Kabal detachment but would not have an obsession but any Kabalites in that detachment still would.
I also don't really mind that mercs don't get obsessions but I would give them something else to compensate.

| Or, hear me out, we could have the entire army have obsessions in the same detachment like every other army. | |

But then we might have actual options!

That would be a pretty fair trade off, and it would open up a bit more flexibility which would be nice. On the whole though, I'm actually not really that opposed to the obsession system that currently splits up our sub factions.

I think it could work but not in its current form and not in a book that's been stripped to the bone. Like, even if units from different subfactions need to be kept separate to get their detachment bonuses, I don't see why they can't still have auras that benefit units outside of their specific subfactions. I mean, we're still supposed to be a single, coherent army; but as it stands there's so little synergy that GW might as well just split us into 3 entirely separate codices. It amounts to near enough the same thing.

| I mean it does work, since our codex dropped pure DE have remained a relatively strong army.
I get what you mean about the lack of synergies between subfactions, it's a tad irritating but I'd so much rather have an army where I can run a lot of different units, and have them all be very viable in any semi-competitive setting. It's a nice place to be that 40k armies so rarely get.

| GW knows the power of rules selling models, which is why we are seeing 9000 marine books being released. So if they truly wanted to shift a surplus of Jetbikes and hellions they could just update their rules? Plus £25 for 60 points of soso reavers is not very exciting. I miss £5 jetbikes | |

| The reavers box is a bit pricey, but between the new and old start collecting, and gangs of commoragh I've never bought a reaver box, nor is there a need to. | |
