| TL;DR - Im starting a dark eldar army. Please, if you could, review my build list and give feedback / tips Hey all,
After taking many years away from 40K (last played in 6th edition until recently), I have found myself getting back into the hobby recently and returning to my chaos space marine army, which Ive now finished!
I've always had my eye on dark eldar, and harlequins, ever since I first played the hobby many years ago, and now I'm looking for some advice in terms of the army build. I've been playing a lot recently with my flatmates (who play craftworlds, eldar, and adeptus mechanicus) so between us we've agreed to start looking into getting a bit more competitive. I know that you should always "build what you want", however there are maybe 2 models from dark eldar which I don't like (all of which are wyches and I dont plan on using them at all!) So to cut a long story short, after lots of research, the following is what I've managed to come up with and I was hoping to get some feedback!

| Welcome to the Dark City ScT_Zeus, and congratulations on the start of your exploration of the True Kin! So I will preface what I'm going to say with the fact that I am certainly not a tournament player, and though my Win-Loss ratio was great in 8th there are certainly others who are better exponents of our craft than I, if simply due to my limited number of games. Everything here is based on my own game experience and preferences. Blaster Archon's are fantastic, and my preferred choice, if you're using Legend's stuff then it is worth considering a Phantasm Grenade Launcher as well as the Archon can fire both at that point, and the Torment Grenade stratagem is a wonderful thing to have in your back pocket. Until points change in 9th Huskblade is great as it's the same cost as the Venom blade. What's the plan with the second one? I'm guessing the Writ carrier is babysitting the Ravagers, but the second is currently footslogging to get anywhere which will limit his impact a tad. Personally I'd drop the Dark Lance on the Kabalites, with the speed of the Raiders you may as well have a second Blaster in each unit instead. You've got a lot of anti-tank with the amount of darklight in your list (on the off chance you're not used to the short hand, Blasters, Blast Pistols and Dark Lances are all 'darklight' weapons, apologies if I'm telling you sumat you already know!), and that's probably good for the more mech-ed up start of 9th. However there is more of a split opinion as to the Dark Lance vs Disintegrator, as the Lance is a one shot wonder with a much higher variance in it's damage output, where the Disintegrator has multiple shots with more consistent damage. I've fallen into Disintegrators in 8th but spent 5th-7th as a lance-man, I think for the moment at least it's going to be down to personal preference - although the mathhammer may disagree with me - at least without Primaris or Marines in general as your regular opponents you may not see as much benefit from the Disintegrators. Swings, roundabouts, consider a mix for flexibility or trying them out, but as long as you know what your weapons do and where to apply them you'll probably be fine either way. I like Shock Prows, but as we won't be able to fall back from combat and shoot with the Raiders as often (Fire and Fade non-withstanding) you might not want to have your Raider's missiling in as often. It's potentially fun to finish off a vehicle that way or soften things up for someone else's charge. I'm guessing that the Incubi are Webway Portal-ing in, as otherwise they definitely need transports! The Grots can probably hoof-it up the field with the Prophets of Flesh Obsession and the Haemonculus nearby. I love Liquifiers, but they're definitely not as good as they were, however they can be hilariously good when they work. I'd say see how you like them and possibly swap them out. For Matched Play in order to be Battle-forged those Razorwing Flocks need a Beastmaster with them, which means that the Beastmaster screws up your Coven Obsession. It's a pain, but then again if you aren't playing full 'matched play' rules then you can probably get away with the Flocks, just be aware anytime you're playing outside your normal group you may need to drop the Flocks. The Harlies sound awesome, a nice unit of fast murder-clown-bikes, but I've no experience of using them so can't really comment I'm afraid. Overall it looks fun to me. Be aware that you may have to shiggle it all though with the new points values (unless I've completely failed at maths and you're already working on those numbers!). Let us know how you get on! | |
