Confused on obsessions

Ok so if I make a <wych> patrol all the units with <wych> key word get the obsession. But does that stop me from adding <coven> units. Can I add them and they just don't get an obsession? This is 500pt for fun but is it legal?

yes that's right, you can add coven units to a cult patrol, but they'll have no obsession (the coven units).

Only exception being cult of strife if you want to use the book of rust stuff

So I have book of rust but don't see what your saying what "stuff"

the book of rust introduced some additional rules for the cult of strife, including stratagems, relics and warlord traits.

However, unlike the normal rules of Drukhari detachments, you only have access to these specific rules if you take a detachment that only includes cult of strife units and blades for hire. If you include, say, a coven unit in that detachment, your cult still has acess to their obsession, but can no longer use the stratagems, relics and warlord traits from the book of rust.
