Looking for the best WWP delivery system

I am on a quest to find the best WWP delivery system ever. Here is what I have so far:
5 wracks in a raider with an archon.

They zoom to where they want to portal to be (usually mid field). Get out and open the gate. When the wyches or incubi come out of the gate the next turn the archon leaves the wracks and joins the wyches/incubi and takes the pain token with him. The wyches/incubi and archon, move 6, fleet and then assault. Boom!

Is there a better system? Perhaps I take a venom with four wracks rather than a raider... hmmm.

if your archon moves from the wracks and joins the wyches/incubi, they will be unable to move that turn... also, your archon is going to get shot to hell... just dont waste the extra points and go with the 85pt homun, imo that will work best for you...

Harlies with a Shadowseer works fine. On foot.

interesting az, I had never thought of that... but i can see it being rather effective... but to take 2 squads of harlies, expensive...

I am a huge fan of grotesques as a wwp delively service. They are tough they are mean and they can survive after layin ght eportal down from entire armies worth of shooting if you can roll half decent.

I use a haem in a unit of 7 wracks in a raider for my WWP list.

After a good bit of practice I have decided to not base my entire list around the WWP, instead I use it to deliver the CC specific components of my army(talos, incubi, harlies, etc)

Four grotesques in a Raider with WWP Archon work absolute wonders. Grots are tough as nails, giving the squad average toughness of 5, serving as fantastic meatshields to absorb pretty much anything that flies at the Archon.

The unit starts fearless, moves 12", disembark 2" into cover and drops 1 wwp. I can at this point decide if I need to get closer with the squad or if simply putting down another wwp on the same turn will help. Often I will have the Baron join the group after they disembark to give them stealth and later steal 2 tokens while waiting for hellion or wych squads to emerge.

This is not a static tactic, often when I have first turn or it is DoW I can use a foot squad of wracks to get a central location but there are several options and is not just 1 method.

I have also tried the Harlequins and that is a pretty simple to use squad, just move 6" forward and drop the portal. This works fine as long as what is coming out of the portal is fast or has a large threat bubble. If it is DoW then usually the Harleys go into reserve to use the portal as this point there is no need for their abilities if they have to start in reserve anyway (so you better have a back up unit for DoW or plan on the wwp deployer to be solo).

Haven't used Grotesques yet, I can't wrap my head around them disembarking on turn 1 as I often need that turn to sail them as close to the enemy as possible. I also fear other than them not getting into the fight quickly is them losing their raider, without it their threat bubble is to small for my liking and they are stuck at the mid board. Wracks are a little different in the way I use them, once the portal is down they often will start marching for the nearest objective - the opponent usually dismisses them for being a short range threat. However, I have read reports that using Grotesques is very solid and reliable as long as the squad is fearless.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Grumpy Kwi~ I like your logic. 2 WWP to deliver CC elements are great. But you have to make sure all those razorbacks/chimeras are popped by the time you get there.

I used to use three grotesques in a raider with an Archon. They work great. If you give one a liquifyer gun and make another an Aberration with scissorhands you get to try all sorts of wound allocation tricks. They can take so many shots and still be fighting. The reason I switched back to wracks is because I really need the elite slots for Blasterborn or incubi...

I have never used the Harlequins for WWP delivery. They're sooo slow compared to a raider. Since you really have to drop a portal on turn one (I don't want my incubi walking on the table edge) you really need to get in striking range quick and you just can't do that on foot.

Here's a kooky idea I read somewhere... Mandrakes. Infiltrate the mandrakes out in the mid field. Turn one~ haemonculi zooms up in a venom, jumps out and joins them... They get a pain token from the haemonculi so their gun works plus the haemonculi is now stealthy and they have FNP. He opens the gate and the wyches come fourth... But I still have the problem that Mandrakes are elites... and I would rather take Trueborn... Or Grotesques for that matter. Who needs to be stealthy when you're buff.

But what do you do in a DoW deployment? The mandrakes arent coming on first turn because they are elites so they end up walking on turn 2, and lets face it they are a less then optimal choice.

Keep the WWP delivery system cheap and flexible. Wracks in a raider because of the raider give you more distance to use movement shennanigans with and the wracks + haem are t4 FNP.

@ jb7090~ I agree with you. Keep it simple. I am trying to find a reason to purchase the mandrake minis.

Mandrakes are just a nuisance unit that really need some care in using them and even then, not really worth it. Sure, you can use them in 2/3 of the games to infiltrate and escort a haemy w/wwp but when I had them in DoW I just put them in the portal and thankfully came out with a Cronos beside them. The Cronos quickly got the mandrakes a token and both assaulted a combat squaded marine unit. They overtook the marines readily and after that they spent the rest of the game shooting a squadron of land speeders (destroying one of them).

For me there is just too much other goodness to be had for the same points so unless I play a themed list with Kheradruakh then I do not see them much use in 5th edition.

Perhaps 6th will make them a bit better?

I use Mandrake models as Haemies w/ Liq guns. As I don't field any other Coven units they don't really stand out as 'wrong'

ON TOPIC: I like Haemies as WWP carriers because they're cheap, don't make me waste Fleet, and grant their bodyguard some resiliency. At lower levels, the Archon could do just fine I guess.

EDIT@\/: that actually made a lot of sense.

@Raneth~ I use the Archon and a wrack squad so that the archon can join whatever comes out of the portal and can deliver the wrack's token to the arriving squad. I tried this trick with Haemonculi and it didn't work as well since the Haemonculi can't keep up with the wychs that come out of the portal (he slows the wyches down) and he isn't that good in close combat. An archon can keep up and helps out the wychs/incubi.
