| So the old metal archon can be seen below: Look at the scale on that. His heads bigger than his torso. Though that's more of a sash than a proper robe, whatever. What I'm looking for is a suitable robed body part, preferably in plastic upon which to base my interpetration of a robed Archon with a flayed face mask. I don't need the head or arms to be DE-appropriate, I can make my own and if it's plastic or finecast I can cut the legs off too. Does anybody here know of any model I could use for this purpose? | |

| There might be suitable bodies amongst the Flagellants. I'm certainly looking at them to base some of my wracks off, particularly based on the official figure designs.
The old archon is a very weirdly proportioned model. Been looking at swapping out his arm, but to do so I'd need to cut away the other one as well. | |

| Try the empire Wizard's kit. I myslef love the old metal archon, and am desperately trying to find one. | |

| You could always try to convert a Farseer. There is a finecast model, but it's pretty pricey, since it comes with Warlocks... Barring that or one of the metal models (which would be a pain to convert, but if you're up to the task, I bet it'd be a cool looking end result), I second the Empire Wizard model. | |

| Hmmm... The arms look good. Not too sure about the body though. It's a bit hunched over. I'd have to carve off most of it, leaving only the cape and sticking on a DE torso + legs. Then sculpt new cloth over that to get it to look right. | |

| If you scrape the body out, you should be able to fix the hunched look by bending the plastic. You may have a crease in the robe, but that will be covered up by paint. Add the front half of a Kabalite warrior and you'll be set. I'd cut the pauldrons off and add the ones from the Hellion kit (you can get them super cheap on Ebay). | |

| My Archon was made using the Empire Wizard body. Shaved down a bit and placed a Dark Eldar Warrior torso at the waist. Heres how mine came out. I also thought about the plastic High Elf Mage because its more Eldar sized. I put a few pics of mine in different stages to help show the size, maybe it will help. **Edit** After thinking about it, there is something else that I have been looking into. Not sure if I can post a link to it on ebay or not, but its something called "Eldar Ranger legs" bits that are resin. Anyway, 3 / 5 of them look semi-robed and I was thinking of giving them a try. If I am allowed to link to the guy, ill post the link. | |

| You could also use the high elves mage. They are probably even higher than the wizard. | |

| This may be more what I'm going for in the end: This one used the battle wizard kit. I want the legs to be visible though, so I'll be shaving the sides of the dress bit off in order to stick warrior legs in it's place.... but still have a tabard style thing in the middle. The helmet is gonna be like the old metal archon in the OP. I have most of what I need at the moment, so I might get the wizard on friday and have some pics for you all over the weekend. | |

| I think the ork has the right idea. If you are looking to do an updated version of Archon Bighead Clownfoot there isn't so much robe (or is it a drapery/towel) to worry about/merit the hassle of seeking robed figures. Build the armoured form from a nice modern plastic kit (kabalite warrior kit would do nicely for the standing pose Clownfoot is in or go with a more dynamic pose using a scourge body as a basis. From there just roll out some green stuff nice and thin, drape it on the side of the body you want the sari(that's the word I was looking for) on let it start to cure then define the folds in the cloth using the landmarks on the body beneath as guides.
With such a small amount of cloth to define it would be much easier and save you a lot of searching. I don't know how much sculpting experience you have so the prospect may seem daunting if you are new to it. If that's the case don't worry too much; the flowing cloth would really benefit from a simple treatment. Less is more. The cloth done simply (clean long folds) would contrast nicely against the sharp angles of the armour plates on the exposed portions of the body. Appropriate colour choice during painting would add to the contrasts between the surfaces and make for a really striking composition.
