Heya folks, well I really need to get around to paining up my Dark Eldar and still have not yet decided upon a colour scheme - I quite like the classic GW scheme in the codex but would also like to try something new and different.

My current concept is a Black and Yellow colour scheme in representation of wasps/other toxic and nasty wildlife that display their warning colours. I am also considering an Eldar allied contingent to join my main list and that this would be pretty scout orientated (pathfinders and war walkers with a Seer - perhaps on jetbike: not sure yet) so would likely be an Alaitoc scout force. In this sense, the wasp colours of the dark colour would effecitvely be a variant of the original Alaitoc choices - with a background tie to represent an eldar pathfinder who chose to become a part of dark eldar society but maintains association with his original brothers...

I dunno, sounds a little lame perhaps - just wondering what would look half decent on the board and yet still look dark and sinister...

There are some very yellow ones here:

Is that the kind of thing you have in mind? Or do you mean more black and less yellow?

Perhaps it's worth trying out some schemes on a drawing, before you even touch a model. People often do this when designing space marine colour schemes.

Have a look at my kabalites (project log in my sig), they use a dark grey/yellow colour scheme that has turned out a bit waspish, more so than I was expecting actually.

Edit: a bit similar to the crimson skull: http://www.thedarkcity.net/t2768-kabal-of-the-crimson-skull-updated-13-05-12

My own personal "Black Halo".

I am rather fond of the yellow and black, and I used images of texas yellow jackets for inspiration.

Anyhoo, I firmly believe it can be done and done well. What will help is the use of warm and cool colors.

My yellows are warm tones and my black is highlighted with Hawk Turquoise and a little green.

Hi everybody! Thanks for all of your kind and constructive responses, first off, compliments!

- Ben S, yeah more black and less yellow: not sure whether to have black base with yellow stripes or vice versa...
- Burning Eye - wow! I really love the dark and broody atmosphere to your models! I think I'm going to go for something even more radical and crazy when I eventually get around to painting these beauties!
- Enfernex, good bloody gosh! I'd seen Lonewolf's avatar before but not his PLOG: they look gorgeus! I particularly like the contrast with the green/turquise stones, although I'd have liked to see the 'poison' parts in the same colour (eg. the splinter rifles)
- GAR, good bloody god matey, those be some seriously lovely looking models you have their! I love the tattoos and iconography! What an inspiration! Again, much like Burning Eye, I think you use a more toned down (and camoflaged) colour scheme to the somewhat garish and brash concept I have in my head (no idea how it will translate to the models!). The blending on your vehicles is drop dead amazing! I hope I can paint like that one day!
