Character Profiles (fore convenience)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Username: Lady Malys
Character Name: Keshariel Ilestrion, the Severer
Age: 325

Origins: Born into the Wych Cult Aria of Destruction, the Trueborn son of one of the more minor Wyches quickly found he was not destined to be a great power in the Cult. In keeping with the Dark Eldar creed of striving for perfection in all things in which one desires to excel, Keshariel tried for two hundred or so years to make his way to the top …

… only to find that he was blocked from its higher echelons by virtue of having been born a male.

Though there was certainly a place for a male of his strength, stamina and good looks, Keshariel found that his presence in the arena was regarded as a novelty at best. Opportunities to show how good he had become with a blade, monowire noose or elegantly-placed kill shot were somehow always sidelined in favour of one of the aspiring daughters of the Kabal. Invitations to audiences with any of the Hekatrices always had more to do with pleasure than business. He felt tired of being treated more like a nameless pleasure slave than one of the Eldarith Ynneas, and found the future prospect of being seen (in his view) as good breeding stock demeaning. In short it was a frustrating life for someone of Keshariel’s drive and ambition, and he decided that the only way to gain any kind of status other than that of a favoured concubine was to strike out and find somewhere where he could make a scar of his own upon the Dark City.

Having been bred to a life of martial excellence Keshariel considered for a time whether he would make a good addition to one of the Incubus temples (not once considering that he might not be accepted). But his upbringing had left him with an undeniable sensual side, a hedonistic impulse that he realised would prevent him from totally dedicating himself to the ascetic Incubus Shrines. What he needed was somewhere where he could really advance using all of his skills, power and advantages.

His chance came from politics. While idly standing by as one of the decorative bodyguards of the Blood-Bride Lady Sorella Malixtris in negotiations with one of the lieutenants of the Kabal of the Final Breath, Keshariel noted that the lieutenant was a man more distracted by his lust for her than the business of the day. It was making him weak as a negotiator, and her relentless power plays were sending him home to his Master with poor offers and even laughing refusal. As the lieutenant’s frustration grew, Keshariel recognised in him a desire to see this arrogant woman dead.

Taking advantage of her distraction later in the afternoon, Keshariel added some of her combat drugs to one of her recreational elixirs. The resulting adrenaline overload caused her heart to fail spectacularly. Sipping her departing essence like a fine liqueur, and taking a personal pride in making a neat job of her decapitation, Keshariel also removed her eyes and certain of her most personal information files.

When the lieutenant of the Last Breath returned for his promised evening appointment, he was greeted by Keshariel sitting in his former lady’s seat, her severed head dangling casually from one immaculately manicured hand. With a languid gesture he rose and offered the head to the ambassador.

“I give the lady to you; I know you’ve coveted her.” He held out the head. “However, I do ask one favour in exchange.”

The lieutenant was incredulous. “Why should I offer you anything? For all I know you’re a common assassin.” He took the head, peering at the sightless orbits.

“Because I have proved I can deliver your enemies to you. I have also demonstrated a flair for exploiting weakness and skill with a blade. And because while I am sure you will want the information your Master craves from her innermost sanctum – and you should have half an hour or so to get it, since her guard believe she is currently deep into her evening entertainments – only I have access to the retinal prints you’ll need to open them.”

Whether or not this was a satisfying end to the negotiator’s troubles, he was persuaded enough of Keshariel’s usefulness to take advantage of his offer to ransack the information store and take Keshariel with him to his Archon, expecting the newcomer to earn himself a thorough excruciation for his insouciance. However, the bare-faced cheek of the young Wych amused the Archon, who agreed to give him a chance to see what he might be capable of. Keshariel set to proving that the Archon had made a good decision. Leaving the Aria of Destruction behind him he embraced the Kabal of the Final Breath.

Service History: Keshariel reasoned that there was little point in marketing himself to his new employer as just another warrior, so he strived to make himself stand out. He did this in the way her knew best: with flashy and high-risk, high yield strikes against their enemies. This is not to say that he was always successful. Knowing there would be a percentage of failed ideas led Keshariel to pick his fights very, very carefully. He targeted those who had been resistant to previous attempts at problem-solving, whether in combat or other areas, reasoning that any failures would merely be seen as another in a long line, and any successes would gain double kudos. Reputation is everything. A certain amount of luck attended his rise to the Corpser Elite, or as he would see it his carefully calculated risk-taking strategy paid off.

Specialty: Keshariel is good at coming up with ideas, though not always of the most orthodox kind. He is stealthy on his feet and quick, making good use of the monowire garrotte in ambush, most of all a close combat specialist from his time in the arenas, though he is a passable shot with the Shard Carbine as well. He enjoys the contrast between the subtlety of the noose and the anything but subtlety of massive firepower.

Personality: Keshariel is a risk-taker. Although he is capable of executing a meticulous plan, carried out in many steps, he is always having to balance his desire for such surety with the thrill-seeking side of his nature, which still takes over on occasion. As an aspirant Wych, this gave him a flashy but superficial edge, and the accurate judgement of many of his teachers was that he has potential but will never be a political force on his own. Keshariel isn’t stupid, but he sometimes fails to concentrate for long enough to be a true player in Commorragh’s games.

What he is good at is innovation. He will often be the first to suggest something unorthodox or risky, but he has always calculated the odds. Well, almost always. Sometimes something looks like just too much of a buzz not to try.

In common with this, Keshariel is finely attuned to the sorts of varied pleasures being a Dark Eldar can offer, the hedonistic impulses that need to be kept to certain times and places or risk unfortunate consequences. What holds him in check are two things: firstly fear of failure – he refuses to entertain the idea of falling so far as not being at least in a good Kabal, if not something more prestigious. He is Trueborn. How can he be expected to live like one of the common rabble? Of course, he also wants to prove to certain of his former Cult just how wrong they were to dismiss him. Secondly, he is very aware of the strength and ability of those currently ranked above him and tries to keep a good idea of who pulls the strings and who is merely manipulated. Or, this being the Dark City, which is doing how much of each to whom.

His skill at attention to detail means that Keshariel is quite a good artist, but he is really too lazy to apply himself to this creative pursuit. He tends to indulge himself in his time off, his recreational drugs of choice being hallucinogens. So far he’s been quite good at judging what is truly time off, and what is just another test. So far.

Keshariel is fairly good at working as part of a team (so far as any Dark Eldar is) because that’s how he was taught in the Wych Cult – in a small class, often with group challenges to face such as how to take down a much larger opponent

Appearance: Keshariel is a classic Wych beauty, with large, dark purple eyes, a proud set to his slightly aquiline features, and a sensual mouth often set in a slightly mocking smile. He has long straight hair, usually black or dark green; he has taken great pains and spent no little currency on making sure his flawless white skin stays that way. It has a few small scars, but these are all in the process of being dealt with (it takes time to collect the sort of payments Haemonculi need for delicate work). He is tall, with long legs usually shod in high boots and almost always wears gloves to protect his elegant hands, “the hands of an artist”, as he likes to say, often while uncoiling his trademark garrotte from some unfortunate’s neck.

Equipment: Ghostplate Armour in Kabal colours with the edges carefully enamelled in jade green extracted from the wing cases of a beetle that lived on only on continent of a planet now blasted into rock. There was an incident involving its core and a nuclear reactor meltdown, a plan he was instrumental in creating, though he nearly missed the final assault because he was busy collecting enough beetles. A Shard Carbine and Splinter Pistol, both standard issue. Three plasma grenades, each bearing a poem to the Consort of the Void, and a small portrait of her in exquisite, not to say explicit detail. Lastly some monofilament wire hidden in a sash around his waist or coiled up in a small pouch (with some elegant spidersilk gloves to handle the device without losing fingers). Personal effects, including a trophy silk sash cut from the body of Sorella Malixtris when she died. It has been carefully laundered of all traces of blood; after all, we don’t want her coming back from any careless little patches of DNA, now do we?

Other: Keshariel is left-handed and his favourite colour is blue. He doesn’t believe in luck, as far as he is concerned he wins because he is better. (!)

Username: Thor665
Character Name: Syndibaar’untax ‘Syntax’ Fill’ithilaryn
Age: 215
Origins: Syntax came up exactly as she’d always planned. Since the day she’d been old enough to conceive of it, she had desired to be part of a Kabal. Not for her was the jaunty flashiness of the Wyches, or the moronic brawling of the gangs, or even the inhuman brutality of the Covens. For her it was always the Kabals, always.

She worked hard, trying to make herself as skilled as possible in the matters of warfare and combat. She would practice with blade and fist. Learn the intricacies of a rifle, dismantling it down to core components, cleaning, and reassembling it. She honed her marksmanship and combat drills, practicing them like an automaton. So it was, when the recruiters came, she stood out as one of the best.

Service History: One of the best, that was what she was, and that was what there was to know of her. It became clear that what she saw lacking in Dark Eldar society was a clear purpose and order. Order, a sharp and cold and clinical order, an order she saw as needed. That was why she had joined the Kabal of the Final Breath. They understood the clinical need of order, order was what would hold back She Who Thirsts who represents Chaos. It was a simple equation, with a simple answer.

That is what problems were to Syntax, just equations to be overcome. She worked hard to make herself useful to the Kabal beyond just being a warrior. Once within the structure she realized that the people who could kill and do nothing else went nowhere. She wanted to go somewhere. It was simple. She studied machines, computers, languages, anything to separate herself from the mass of common rabble. Her focused and meticulous mind lent itself well to languages of many varieties, as well as the coding language of computers, it was here that she found her niche. From needing to hack into a network to disable a planetary defense system to just triangulating where battlefield commander communications were coming from so the Kabal could take out the head, Syntax began to rack up many battle honors.

If it pleased her, it was hard to tell, though she accepted every laurel with a soft nod of her head that just seemed to suggest that she already knew what they were telling her – she was good, and she was needed. Eventually she was promoted into the Corpser Elite, where such focused devotion would unquestionably serve a useful purpose. Syntax is pleased, because it’s another step towards where she needs to be.

Specialty: Programing and maintenance of hardware, also language skills.

Personality: Syntax is distant. She keeps her emotions under odd check, though on rare occasions it is possible to get her to reveal a snap of anger, or a small smirk of amusement. But her cold exterior mask is one of the most important things to her, for she cannot afford to ever let it crack or slip, because to let others see underneath it might allow them a chance to hurt her. Her mask is too difficult to hurt, behind it she is safe.

Appearance: Tall for a Dark Eldar, thin and statuesque, Syntax would be quite desirable if she bothered. She wears no makeup other than occasional smears of grease or sealing liquid from whatever device she was working on earlier, her long, straight, black hair is kept sawed off at her shoulders occasionally a little jagged as she will cut it to remove solvents that landed in it, or snarls on pieces of gear,. She wears no jewelry and her only signature item is a pair of gold rimmed optical enhancing glasses that she wears at all times in case she needs to work on fine computer circuitry.

Equipment: Ghostplate Armour, a Splinter Rifle, a Splinter Pistol, three haywire grenades, a curved dueling knife, her electronic tools.

Quote: “As expected.”

Character Name: Zekla Ororos

Age: 342

Origins:

Zekla began his training in the pits of the haemunculai. Apprenticed to an apprentice of none other than Urien Rackarth himself, Zekla rarely saw more respect than the common slave. That did not stop him from learning however, and if there was anything that Zekla was voracious about, it was perfecting his craft. However those ideals were never to come to fruition. Being an apprenticed in the Prophets of Flesh awarded Zekla in the form of being allowed to partake in the raid against the Tau world of Rubikon. While the mission was overwhelmingly a success, the forces of the Dark Eldar were not completely without loss, Zekla was mortally wounded. However, the amount of pain generated that day fueled Zekla, keeping him alive long enough for him to use his homunculaic arts to repair himself. Being supposed dead and stranded, Zekla took the small amount of remaining time before the Tau reinforcements arrived to scour the world, and chanced upon a discarded webway portal device. A minor repair later, Zekla found himself once again, in the dark city.

Free of his masters Zekla had a radical idea. If the Tau, inferior race though they were, were capable of even damaging one of such a superior race, then perhaps there was something to their "military doctrine". Zekla had heard of a cabal lead by an ancient archon which held to just such a philosophy, but knew that they were an elite organization, and in his current state there was no way he would be able to join. Zekla took up training in the wych arenas, spending decades perfecting the art of the blade, and then moving into the elite members of the reaver jet bike squads. When Zekla no longer saw progress, and determined his piloting skill to be among the best, he stealthily left the arenas and took up arms at the side of the Kabal of the Withered Spirit.

A small raiding kabal, numbering less than 100 members, Zekla perfected the use of kabalite weapons over the next 6 decades, gaining skills with the splinter rifle, the dark lance, the shredder and the blaster. During a raid against a gang of hellions encroaching on the Withered Spirits territory, Zekla took his chance. He murdered his squad and escaped into the darkness of the Commorragh allies, the aftermath of his actions saw the fall of the Withered Spirit.

After nearly a century, Zekla finally made his way to the Kabal of the Final Breath.

Service History:

Zekla arrived at the doors of the Kabal of the Final Breath as its host marched to war. Making use of the opportunity, he found a squad sybarite and asked to be allowed to prove himself on the field of battle. The audacity of this dark eldar ammused the sybarite, and he decided to allow the upstart to join the squad, for he appeared as though he would make a rather good meat shield. Unarmored, and having only his close combat weapon, a signature blade resembling a scalpel, Zekla went to war for the first time with the Final Breath. His foes a batallion of imperial guard. That day, Zekla earned his place among the ranks of the Final Breath.

With the uncommon ability to make flesh repair itself using his learned haemunculus arts, his unparalleled skills with such a variety of weapons, and the ruthlessness which he displayed, Zekla quickly rose among the ranks of the Final Breath.

Zekla earned his place among the ranks of the Corpser Elite in a unusual and rare circumstance. A hired mandrake assassin managed to make his way into the sleeping quarters of Archon Zerith. When the Archon retired for the night, the mandrake struck. Archon Zerith was badly wounded before dispatching of the assassin. A short time later Zekla found himself standing before the fading Archon. For the first time in his life, Zekla felt the tinges of loyalty and respect for the ancient being. He used his skills to save Archon Zeriths life and in reward found himself among the ranks of the Corpser Elite.

Specialty: First and foremost, Zekla is a fleshwarper, using his skill to tend to the wounds of his allies, when he deems it appropriate. He is also knowledgeable in all manner of close combat and ranged weapons. Lastly he is capable of piloting small personal craft due to his time spent among the reaver squads.

Personality: Zekla is a boisterous person, and it's not long before you realize he has entered a room. While primarily serving as a battlefield medic, Zekla has been known to let common members of the Final Breath die if they have slighted him for any reason, although he tends to show more loyalty to his squad and members of the Corpser Elite. When he is exposed to close combat, Zekla will use the skills he garnered in the wych arenas to deftly pluck the left eye (eye's being the only organ every being is assured to have) from those he kills. He keeps these morbid trophies in small vials on the walls of his sleeping quarters.

Appearance: Though only apprenticed to a haemunculus, Zekla learned some of their archaic arts, among which was the ability to alter ones appearance. Around the Kabal Zekla is stunningly beautiful, the epitome of what one of the dark kin should look like, and has on more than one occasion taken the breath of new recruits. However, when it is time for the Final Breath to go to war, his demeanor changes, and he warps his face and body into that of a creature that is rumored to have made even a hardened veteran guardsman weep.

Equipment: Zekla carries a large scalpel, which he uses to great effect in close combat. He also serves as his squads special weapons technician, preferring to use a shredder, as the flechettes inflict copious amounts of glorious pain. He also carries plasma grenades, as he has found that the smell of charred flesh... arouses... him.

Quote: "What? Oh yes, I can fix that, but first, let us discuss your method of payment..."

Username: Cavash.

Character Name: Hel’yurt Kellion’esh.

Age: 499.

Origins: Born into a spiralling world of fast paced chaos, Kellion’esh quickly learnt to shun outsiders to preserve his own life. Son to a female Hellion who’s name never carried any weight for it to be remembered, Kellion’esh was forced to join the Corrosive Corvus Hellion Gang.

From a young age he fought and murdered, pillaged and stole to serve his own self centred thoughts. Within the Corrosive Corvus he was considered a rogue, even by a Hellion’s standards. Whereas the other members would stick together to ensure victory, Hel’yurt was known to go his own way and betray his own kind to ensure victory.

On a daring raid into the lands of the Severed Hand Kabal’s territory, Hel’yurt was responsible for the destruction of an entire weapon manufacturing complex which crippled the Kabal. The blast, however, knocked him from his board, leaving him stranded at the centre of enemy territory.

For two cycles he crept through the streets, finding food and refuge wherever he could. If he had no money he would steal, if nobody would share their home he would hang them in the street. This dark time in his life, however, almost led to his downfall.

Through a market he strolled, head shrouded beneath his hood. Blood rained down upon the silent crowds as the masses marched to and from the workhouses. He, however, came across a market place unguarded and wide open for looting. Happily he loaded up his pockets, stealing the drugs on display. He took all, not caring for their hazards and uses. Whatever he did not want he could sell.
Happily he smashed open a crate and reached down, grabbing the small phials that sat sparkling in the crimson half-light.

This drug that was labelled ‘Coldmind’ brought a euphoric calm to him, and for days he thought over every decision with such intensity that the average person could not see his logic. He killed mercilessly yet did not smile as he peeled the faces from his victims. In two days he travelled a distance that would have taken weeks to achieve. It had brought him to the Final Breath.

He found a home within the ranks of the Kabal, bit soon the clarity brought by the Coldmind was replaced with a storm cloud that broke him down into a feral beast. He Murdered fifteen Kabalite Warriors in the field as the drugs in his veins broke down, leaving him only with a rabid addiction.

Service History: During his time in the Final Breath, Kellion’esh has been responsible for numerous rebellious victories. Often he had gone against the orders of his superiors, seeing their ideas as foolish, and on each occasion he has brought his strike force victory.

His most famous victory was against the Adamantine Guard Space Marine Chapter. In the dead of night he forced his men to approach a fortified fortress through a system of rivers and sewage pipes. Easily they had broken in and placed Vortex Charges around the battlements. While the Imperial Guardsmen slept he released a powerful nerve gas into the air, causing each Guardsman to cough up his rotting organs as they lay helpless and paralysed.

Even though the Space Marines were quick to retaliate, they could not stop all of Dark Eldar infiltrators, and as Kellion’esh broke out he activated the Vortex Charges, causing the fortress, the Space Marines and the slowest of the Eldar to be consumed by the dark flash of a momentary black hole.

Specialty: Kellion’esh is a great tactician who personally specialises with demolition and destruction of fortified positions.

Personality: Hel’yurt is almost monastic in his silence towards outsiders. He shuns those born of tube and seeks not to be disturbed, fearing relapse into his mind rotting addiction. He does, however work and co-operate with his squad out of necessity, knowing that the focus that his tasks bring keeps his mind on track.
His squad, while he may not get along with some of the members, are a rare few people who he allows to hear his voice without having an overwhelming urge to shed blood.
He is also very vengeful and holds grudges for as long as he knows that the offender is alive, even though he does carry them out after the death of his victim, targeting their family.

Appearance: Kellion’esh’s pale face is offset by his hip length black hair and the tribal scarring that serves as a constant reminder of his Hellion roots. He has high cheek bones and artificially coloured emerald eyes with teeth that are sharpened into fanged points. He usually wears a black hooded cloak, as to hide himself from the world around him.

Equipment: Ghostplate Armour, Shardcarbine, Splinter Pistol, Three Plasma Grenades, Close Combat Weapon (Angel’s Touch) and a hooded black cloak.

Other: Hel’yurt has a great aversion to Combat Drugs of any sort because of horrific, life ruining previous experiences with them. He is prone to relapse, however, and detests all life, wishing only for eternal silence.

Quote: "Through the ever shifting glacier of time I roam aimlessly, waiting."
"For what?"
"The perfect moment to steal away your final breath."

Username: Shadows Revenge

Character Name: Yarin Dahal

Age: 118

Origins: Born to low rung family from a now destroyed Kabal, the only thing that kept Yarin alive was his Trueborn status, and his strong will to survive. He quickly learned the skills of stealth and assassination, which helped pay his way through the early parts of his life, as well as serve him to this day. His accuracy is unmatched in the Corpser Elite, although many boast that they are better. He has shown several times he can headshot a speeding reaver at 300 meters with a splinter rifle everytime. His main weapon is the Dark Lance, in which is uses to snipe leaders and sow discord among his enemies. Yarin's prefered weapon though is his karath, a short serpentine blade that was the signature weapon of the lost Kabal, and his only remaining heirloom from his family. Yarin loves the thrill of slitting his opponents throat, only to slip right back into the shadows from where he came. These conflicting attitudes towards combat makes Yarin unpredictable, but the Razors Touch have come to trust his skills enough to know that he is doing the most tacticfully sound decision.

Yarin's one weakness is the need to take trophies from certain kills he deems "important" No one knows why he does it or how he picks these "important" targets. For example the time he killed both an ork Warboss and two regular orks in close combat, only to take two non consecitive teeth from each of the normal orks. When asked why, his only reply was "they were twins".

Service History: In his assassin days, Yarin was double-crossed by a Hellion Gang run by a man named Dargaz. After completing a job for Dargaz, they refused to pay him and left him for dead in the Janarl Marketplace. Luckily a local Haemonculus owed him a favor, and after he was back on his feet, Yarin started a lone crusade against the Hellion Gang. He systamatically took out every member one by one. This caught the attention of Archon Zarith, who patroned the Hellio Gang. Zarith sent a squad of his Warriors to hunt down this assassin, but when only a lone member returned with the captured Yarin, Zarith offered Yarin either death or servitude. Ever since then Yarin has been slaughtering under the banner of Archon Zarith.

Other than having a multitude of enemy leaders death to his name with both Dark Lance and blade, his biggest accomplishment was on the planet of Talmos, where Yarin infiltrated the capital city and opened a webway portal so that the forces of the Kabal of the Final Breath could slaughter to their hearts content.

Specialty: Stealth, Accuracy, Knife Fighting

Personality: Cold, Calculating, a Morbid Sense of Humor (even for Dark Eldar), Obsession with Trophies

Appearance: Average height, but alittle smaller build than most dark eldar. Wears a black cloak at all times, normally has the hood up, and carries several ork skin pouches on his right hip to put fetishes from his important kills during the mission. Has a scar down the right side of his face from his temple to cheek from his last encounter with Dargaz

Equipment: Dark Lance, pistol, Karath (combat knife), ghostplate, haywire grenades

Other: As part of his time spent alone in the underhives of Commagorah, Yarin hates any person who has association with Hellions

Epic first posts, gentlemen, and four very different approaches. There's my fifth Smile

EDIT: What is the frequency of posting to be expected? Because I don't think I can manage every day, for time reasons, but should be able to do 2-3 times a week.

the opening is interesting to say the least. was well written though, I will admit that.

and as for "stroking my ego" lol I guess you could say that, but my character doesnt think of himself by his name, more by his profession, or his profession before getting drafted into the squad. considering his background, that was the only thing he had to indentify who he was.

I now have a theory why this Kabal is called the Final Breath. *nodnod* Maybe it's not a reference to their enemies', as I previously thought.

Well, my idea is that the Final Breath is that of everyone who gets recruited. That every newcomer gets the welcome we have - they die, and are literally reborn anew into the Kabal. Which therefore takes our final breath.

Just a theory, but it's fun to speculate Very Happy

Maybe, but that would be expensive and also not gel with our requested character histories unless this is a flashback.

I suppose there's a possibility it's just for the Corpser Elite, natch (after all, they're self described elite corpses) though, again, only likely as a flashback considering all of us were told to write about how we joined the Elite.

I'm banking on it more as an adventure hook, where we were murdered/killed some way and now we'll get to investigate and find our own murderer and, afterwards, exact vengeance in not very nice ways.

Just because we wrote how we joined in our backstories, doesnt mean that we know about all of the hazing that went on... and i cant imagine that DE are against hazing...

Well, I also gave myself equipment in the character history and I'm sure I mentioned clothes ... Razz We got to write up why we got accepted and what led up to it, but not what initiation involves. At least, mine went as fas as "got accepted into the Kabal" Very Happy At this stage I don't know if that was as simple as signing some paperwork or an elaborate ritual.

Of course it could be we're in a variation of "you wake up in jail and all your equipment is gone", but I think my idea is more sinister.

Probably totally wrong, but sinister!

Any other ideas why we woke up dead while we're between posts? Smile

@Malys - I'm an intense and judgmental enough gamemaster that I choose not to theorize too heavily in that direction because I would start to get preachy about stuff and pass early judgments on various decisions. I'll choose to bite my tongue and go with the flow as it's something I believe is smart to do for me t be a better player and also to learn to just go with the intended story flow a bit and not to judge it till it's over, or at least heavily underway.

Random question to the other players though - once it's revealed in the game if we are meeting each other for the very first time or not. I realize in my character bios I was intentionally writing them almost totally from the prospective of someone else looking at the character - there were multiple layers I chose not to explain because 'My character wouldn't tell people that'

I don't feel everyone else wrote their bios that way, and this is perfectly fine, I'm just curious if there is anything in those bios that your character would tend to *not* really let on about. In other words, if we know each other as fellow Corpser Elite and have worked together on a handful of missions prior to this one - do you think my character would know everything in your bio, or not? If not I would love to hear what may or may not have been shared so I can try to play accordingly.

I don't think that knowing everything would be good as an air of mystery is always nice. I think that we'd only know the necessary basics, although it does also depend on which personalities blend well and which characters could be considered to 'like' each other.

Say, my character would not share things with Shadow's because of the Hellion issue Razz, he may not be too keen on sharing information with Ruke's character for being too loud, but then on the other hand Malys' character could be loud and arrogant too seeing as he is a Wych. The close combat prowess of Keshariel could be what makes my ex-Hellion find an ally in him, though.

Also, I think that my Hellion would get along with your Syntax Character because they are rather like-minded. They both want to get the job done efficiently.

I don't think that my character would have let out his drug addiction (yet), although it is safe to assume that because of the tribal scarring on his face that others know that he is a Hellion.
On the drugs note, however, Ruke's Zekla could notice some of his symptoms, being the squad medic and all.

Of course, the only thing that Shadows' Yarin would know is that he wants to hurt me for being a Hellion and having a cloak that is very much like his own.

I would say that the amount of knowledge know depends on the situation, whether it turns out that we have served together for a long time or whether we are the remnants of blown up squads.

P.S. I hope that you could decipher that, I'm not feeling very coherent or fluid in my usage of language today.

Woah, woah! You have completely misunderstood me. It was a bit of speculation about why it's called the Final Breath and that is all.

I only went further ("hmm, or maybe we're in a scenario where we don't have access to our stuff?") because well, II was light-heartedly saying "oh silly Malys, probably got the wrong idea" and we have nothing on us or with us. I wasn't passing judgement on it or running it down.

I'm the one who asked for this game. I have no interest in running it or Noctus down. I am a GM of long experience myself and my players ask themselves (and me, though they know I won't answer!) this kind of stuff all the time. I was happy to keep my theory to myself but Noctus said "ok then what is it? Smile " so I told what I thought.

Let's be clear, I know nothing about what we're doing, the most I'd expect from a GM in this situation would be a smiling "ahhh, well of course I cannot confirm or deny" and all I was looking for from other players was along the lines of "yes" "no" or "bet you a tube of Smarties it's this". No GM is ever going to say "oh Malys you're right, how did you guess?" to this sort of thing. This is where they get to smile enigmatically Smile

I don't want to know what happens next until it happens, in fact I don't know, which is why I was passing the time in a bit of (to me) fun speculation. I will not try this again here.

This last section may have come across as more pointed than you intended, but I do have over 15 years' experience in playing and GMing. I rigidly separate in and out of character knowledge. However, if you don't think I'll fit in here, it would be better to say so now and I will bow out.

I actually think you misunderstood me.

I don't do speculation because I start to pass judgement if I do.
I'm totally fine with you and others speculating all you want. It was a personal admission of stoppage on your conversation thoughts, not a directive for stoppage of the conversation.

To clarify even further; here's how my speculation would go;

It could be this, this, or this...but all of those are incredibly stupid and here's why no good GM should ever do them because of this, this, and this. Therefore it has to be this or this reason behind this start because any other choice would be bad GMing and/or stupid to various degrees for reasons I've discussed.

That's why I don't do that type of speculation, I speculate like a judgmental and intense GM, not like a player wanting to have fun in the game. Since I want to have fun in the game - I choose not to speculate.

Double post merged, thanks - Cavash.

Well, that is actually quite a big relief. I am aware of the fragility of the written word when it comes to conversing online. I thought it was a bit of a surprise Shocked hence why I checked if you meant "shut up Malys you're rubbish" or not. Didn't seem like you but I couldn't see it any other way. I'm happy to be wrong Very Happy Thanks for letting me know swiftly.
