One could but if the enemy is >18" away you've paid 60 points for no benefit as the blasters are out of range and if you move to get closer the Dark Lances would only be able to snap shot.

Yes. It would be expensive, fragile, and slow but you could do it.

Would slow down terminators marching, or MC's as they make their way towards you.

Try it and see

hmmmm why not just take 1 lance and 4 blasters and put them in a venom, that would cure the movement problem and give them a little more flexibility. add nightshields for extra protection.

once this is done you may just as well go with 1 4 TB blaster squad and a pair of lances and get 2 venoms

you can't do that. the whold unit has to be able to embark in the transport. not some out and some in. plus you can only buy a venom if the unit equals 5 or less models.

you could take 6 dudes and 4 with blaster and 2 with dark lances.
buuuuut if youa re going to do that why not just take 1 unit of 4 trueborn with 4 blaster and 1 unit of 3 truborn with 2 dark lances? you can split the fire and it is two targets to worry about for you opponent rather then 1.
you could also take 2 venoms! which is always a good thing

Doesn't give you any ablative wounds, as soon as you take a casualty you are loosing a blaster or a lance, which isn't very effective. Its always good to have some basic models to eat incoming shots, especially if the unit doesn't have a transport.

Personally I don't see the point in having blasters AND lances in the same squad. As the blaster will either be out of range, or the lance with be snap-firing.

Would love to know why we have that restriction but Space Marines don't. Oh, I think I answered my own question. They're Space Marines and therefore special.

Q: Some Space Marine squads can take a Razorback as a dedicated transport. A Razorback has a transport capacity of six models. Can you
still choose this as a dedicated transport for a squad with more than six models? (p23)
A: Yes.

i run 3 squads of 3 TB in my 1500 list, 2 squads with lances and 1 with SC. due to lack of models i can only field 2 venoms so the lances are loaded up. i find due to the size of the squads especially the SC who footslog they tend to get ignored over bigger more tastier targets, the weak minded humans think less is weaker haha. im sure i wont get away with for much longer. looking forward to xmas for more venoms

their is nothing stopping you from having 4 blaster, 2 lances and 4 with SR (ablative wounds) and ride in a raider, seems that if you are allowed to reach optimum range of a target with this boat their wont be much left

SM get combat squads "A nuber of ten-man units in the space marines army have the option to braking down into two five man units called combat squads. This option is clearly specified in the units entre" (p51 space mareines codex) i did this alot when i was playing SM.

I deleted part of your post. Can you please not quote massive swathes of rules like that in future (especially when your first quote was sufficiently informative). It violates rule 6 of the forum (Intellectual Property is a serious issue for Games Workshop). Thanks.Smile -Mush (your Malevolent Moderator)

Necrons can do it too, as you cna buy a Ghost Ark even if you have a full 20 man squad, despite the squad being too big to fit in it. Of course both Necrons and Marines are written by the same person.
