My friend loves to play Tyranids....

Hello all!

I'm new here and failry new to 40k I suppose, I've been playing for a few months now- me and my buddy got into the hobby around the same time, I picked up Dark Eldar about a week ago and i'm really likeing them so far, my friend picked up Tyranids around the same time however and has been stomping me... I've made some lists that have done decent enough against them but I need some help dealing with this /: Everybody says Dark Eldar are the perfect Anti- Tyranid army sooo... suggestions?

Here is a 2k List I made last night that performed really well...but i'm always open to idea's and constructive criticism ^^

HQ: Asdrubael- Not on the Dias because I don't see where the point cost could be justified unless you were playing a big game >__>

4 Trueborn with Asdrubael all with Blasters- also on a Venom with Nightshields and Flickerfield

8 Squads of 5 Kabalite Warriors/ Blasters/ All of them on Venoms with Splinter Cannons- Night Shields and Flickerfields

2 Squads of 3 Reaver Jetbikes

3 Ravager's- Nightshields and Flickerfields

Voidraven Bomber- Nightshields and Flickerfield
x3 Necrotoxin Missles
x2 Implosion Missles
---

I kept 2 Ravager's in reserves along with 3 of the venom's..

-Our normal Army List are about 2k ppoints give or take.

You likely don't want to use reserves as that simply reduces the amount of fire power you can apply to his army early on for little is any benefit. That's more of a side issue though, it would help if you tell us what the problem you are having is. Dark Eldar are faster, with longer range, and better shooting. What is he running and how is he beating you?

The List I posted above performed muchh better than my previous one's however I built that listt to counter Tyranids? Or do you think I could use it for other battle's and other armys?- The big reason i'm asking about Tyranid's is what is good against them in general? Specific Unit Wise? B/c the list I made last night pissed him off to no end so he is changeing his list now..haha

you need to drop 1 of your missiles as you can only take 4, lots of poison at as long a range as you can get. job done

Maybe I'm missing something but it looks like you have 4 heavy support.

No, you didn't miss anything. It's the same reason, why he gets 8 Troop choices. It is a 2000 points army and so uses 2 force organisation charts.

I'd replace Vect with a regular Archon. Seeing as he's running around with blasterborn, he'd be best with a blaster and maybe a venom blade.

That's what I was thinking, but didn't see a second HQ choice...

just keep your HQ choices cheap and use the points for more venom, the only other thing i would do is make the 2 units of 3 reavers 1 unit of 6 find some points to add CC and blade vine, this will keep them out of harms way and do some serious dam to the lightly armoured nids

It seems to me like one of the problems you're having is because he is managing to get a lot of assault elements to you thanks to the mycetic spores and in my opinion it would be a good idea to get some counter assault in, perhaps husktrap archon which is real scary since you can beef him up in str really quickly against a mycetic spore, and some bloodbrides as an escort to go toe to toe in volume of attacks against the hormagaunts. And obviously bring as much poison as possible.

Wow Thanks for all the tips guy's, I never thought about making it a 6 man Reaver Squad, i'll be sure to try that!.

Also- The mycetic spore is a monsterous? so the Husktrap combo works on it? Wow..

I would recommend spamming poison weapons.

Haha yeah mycetic spores are quick ways to make your archon so scary his hive tyrant and any other MC for that matter will run away screaming

Unless that Hive Tyrant has a Lash-Whip. My Archon got munched on by one today. I got greedy though, and went for the Tyrant when I should have gone for the Trygon. My Archon did kill 2 Carnifex beforehand, so I was still happy.

That's true sorry I forgot about that but yeah you've got to be extra wary of lash whips, they take away that initiative advantage that lets us win fights

I re-did my list a tiny bit and played against my buddy today with the Tyranid's, needless to say the Kabal of the Black Dawn did much much MUCH better...I took the suggestion and ate his mycetic spores >__> Strength 10 Archon was fun along with all the Splinter Cannons and Blaster Born

-I ran a body guard of 4 Incubi with my Archon that also preformed quite well, They let the Archon kill his Hive Tyrant since he hadn't eaten the spores yet and was only the normal str-3, all in all a majior victory for the Dark Eldar
