Trueborn w/ Corsair Cloaks

Does anyone have a decent tutorial on how to do this? I really like the look of the models that are done this way, and was planning on doing some up like that myself, but it looks like it could be a complicated conversion...

Yes! Let me sober up a bit and I'll walk you though it.

Ok. I'm still drinking, so we'll take a crack at this.




1. Trim the round edges of the arm mounts flush with the cloak. This is done easiest by making scooping motions with your hobby knife.
2. Trim this section of the cloak almost completely flush. If you leave a little bit of trim this actually helps over going completely flush. If you go completely flush, the model will still look fine, but will be explained more in point 3.
3. Make these edgings with a small ridge left on the cloak itself. If you go completely flush, you will have to shave into the back part of the legs a little bit to make the model fit correctly. You still might have to do some trimming on the back half of the legs to get the model to fit appropriately. This is best covered up with a knife. See below.
4. Trim this section completely flush with the cloak. GO SLOWLY. It is very easy to cut into the back neck portion of the cloak. If small enough, this can be covered up with a dab of glue. Otherwise, be prepared to break out the greenstuff.


Here's what the cover up will look like. Most likely, you will have to shave out good portions of the back part of the legs. It's a tight fit, but if you shave a little, test fit, and shave some more, you'll get it down pat the more you do.

It even comes with a set of swords that I can use for the Duke:

I don't like the corsair torsos. They look too fantasy for me. If you want to use some of those heads, DO NOT scrape off the neck joint.

Done and done. Turns out great minds think alike, eh? Mine will definitely look a lot like the first one you have posted there.

Well check out my project log for the completed model. I did another one, but wasn't happy with it. The first one though is a solid and successful test mini.

If anyone could post a pic of the inside of the cloak after all the cutting, it would be greatly appreciated!
