Heyo,
New to 40k, play skaven in fantasy and dark eldar seemed the most similar in 40k (Cause more damage to ourselves than the enemy...although DE you cause damage to yourself with tiny mistakes instead of misfires .)
If you'll humor my newness, got some How2Play questions and just seeking advice on my army list.
Buddy i'm building army to play with is going chaos.

Intents of what i want is an army that will be fun to play against and with.

Pt wise Looking @ 1k and 1500. (1k for what we'll be playing with to start, and workin our way up. )

I already got some of my models to get me a goodstart, and was just reading up on rules trying to make sure i could play them right and i've just gotten a bit confused on some areas and how to build them.

To put up my current model list then ask questions so you can see where i'm coming from,(Just bought a variety of what interested me to get me started, then can tweak as i go sorta thing.)

1x Succubus (To go party with an incubi squad)
2x Haem's (For pain tokens for incubi)
3x Reavers (Just liked how they looked lol)
20x Warriors
15x Incubi
1x Raider
(I know i need more transports, i just don't know how many and to go venom or raider.)

ONTO QUESTIONS!
1 - What could i do for Anti Vehicle? I was planning on warriors with dark lances, seems that is not an encouraged idea though.
2 - How could i deal with enemies in cover?
3 - Would an Aegis defense line for a bunch of warriors be a good/bad idea with this build idea?

Big Question sez the wallet
4 - What type / How Many transports should i be looking at?
5 - In regards to #3, what type of playstyle should i be looking at? My current intention is to have warriors provide a nasty line of fire down the middle/Deal with points, and have my incubi just go charge gloriously into a flank with reavers as kind of cannon fodder to hopefully save an incubi transport from an early death.
6 - For 1500pt wise, what Named would be my best bet? I was leaning towards Duke, mostly since the thread on using him with 20 warriors in an aegis sounded absolutely hilarious lol

Thanks for readin folks, any help/suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi:

Yes, it can work. You would probably need 8 Incubi and two Haemonculi in two Venoms. Biggest problem will assault grenades because you will attack at initiative 1 without them.

If you are looking to use your warriors for long range anti-infantry support, it's hard to go wrong with Venoms. You have 20 Warriors so you should be able to make 4 Blasters (2 actual blasters and two converted from Shredders and Blast Pistols).

1)For anti-tank, the general consensus is that Ravagers, 3-4 Kabalite Trueborn with Blasters in a Venom being optimal, although a Razorwing Jetfighter can also be used to hit bubble-wrapped armor. Raiders and Reaver Jetbikes are also viable, the former coming with Dark Lances stock and the latter being able to take Heat Lances/Blasters. Having suicide Wyche squads with Haywire Grenades in Venoms are also good.

On a side note: I find myself preferring a mixture of Raiders and Venoms as opposed to just Venoms. While you lose long range anti-infantry, you gain more long range anti-tank and fairly brutal mid-short range firepower with Splinter Racks. That's just an opinion though.

2)Given the stupid amount of Anti-Infantry Dark Eldar can put out, cover should not be a problem. Also, most armies tend to be Space Marines, which means 3+ Armor Saves so cover is usually not a factor.

3) The general consensus is not because the strengths of the Dark Eldar are mobility and speed coupled with vehicles bristling with firepower.

4) That said, you should have 8+ Vehicles at 1500 points, unless you are trying foot-dar, a webway porthole/coven list, or a Reaver Jetbike army a la a certain moderator on this forum. Wink

If I were your wallet, I would return one box of Incubi, one box of Warriors, and buy the Battle Force. That way, you get the same number of Warriors, some Wyches, Reaver Jetbikes, and a Transport. One the one hand, you have fewer Incubi and are spending more money. On the other, you get way more models at a 20% discount from GW (US prices). You can get it for less through Amazon for ~$90. The original has 20 Warriors, 5 Reaver Jetbikes, and 1 Raider so keep your eyes open.

With Venoms, you can put together a decent troop choice (5 Kabalite Warriors with Blaster in Venom with 2 Splinter Cannons) for 125 points and $44.5. For comparison, a squad of 10 Kabalites in a Raider costs 160 points + and $66.25.

5) Mechanized or hybrid leaning toward mechanized is the standard answer. Some people have pioneered Coven, Harliquen, and Jetbike armies with success.

6) I generally do not run special characters although the Duke looks pretty awesome. May people swear by Baron because he is extremely cheap and brings a lot of bonuses to the army. That said, you need some unit to attach him to (Hellions and Beast Masters... Grotesques...?)

Hope that helps.

Helps a lot thank you, gonna try and hunt me down one of those old battleforces. Was avoiding battleforce since i had no interest in wyche's...n lo and behold..they have one with no wyche's xD

and then...to amass the venoms...

What would be good to use the raiders for though? I had been planning on using them for a big incubi squad, the double 4+haem liquifier venoms sounds way more appealing though. (Or triple with a succubi with one..MUHAHAHA)

I really like how raiders look, and having two of them with the army would be really neat.(And having the dark lances >.<)

1. Ravagers, Void Ravens, Blasters, Lanceborn, Blasterborn, Haywire Wyches, Reavers... the list goes on...

2. You shoot them, as cover really doesnt matter unless they keep going to ground. If they do that, then they are pretty much removed from the game (they can still snapfire though) so a good assault element is always welcomed. Remember you can also focus fire and cause more wounds, which is always a plus.

3. My oppinion... never. DE strength is their speed and ability to re-deploy. An ADL is more used for static armies. That being said some builds gain alot from the ADL, but you need to specificly build to use it...

4. Depends... and again depends. What type depends on what do you need. Do you need more AI??? Venoms are your answer. Need some suppliement AT??? Raiders for you then. Personally I like duality with my vehicle and the models inside. Running a full squads of warriors for shooting at infantry??? Then the raider can shoot at tanks. Running 5 wyches w/ haywire to hunt tanks??? Then a venom is your best choice.

As for how many, again depends on the list you are building. I personally run around 6-9 transports of both varieties, but some get away with only 4 or less, and they leave them in reserve and use them more as a counter-assault element. It all depends on the list you want to create.

5. And this determines #3 and #4. How you intend to play the list determines what you need. Running venomspam??? well guess what... your going to need venoms. Running raider rush??? Raiders are norm. Running a hybrid w/ hellions??? Well your need both. Your playstyle effects the army build.

6. Baron, by far. He is probably the best named character out there.
