| Subject: New to 6th ed. DE shooty list. Sun Feb 24 2013, 04:39 | |
| Hi dark city! So I'm pretty new to W40k, and i just started on DE. Now i only have the 5th edition mini rulebook, and the codex, so I'm not very clear on all of the stuff yet. But i am planning to get the 6th rulebook sometime. Now I need an army list for a relatively small force. As i said, im very new to warhammer and don't exactly know all the rules clearly yet. The main army list thing im not clear about is the force organization stuff. But anyways, I heard that 6th edition made Close combat DE suck, and empower shooty DE(correct me if i'm wrong). So i'd prefer the list to be based on a shooty original DE army. What i mean of "original" is that i don't really want wracks or beastmasters or something like that. I just prefer the DE people. I need an army that can be used fairly well and kinda forgiving for a newbie, but can still rush in and destroy everything before the opponent knew what hit em(be deadly like how an original DE army would be). I'm focusing on less than 750 pts. I'd like it to be based off of raiders and all the skimmers. Right now, since i'm new to DE, i only have one squad of kabalites with: Sybarite with agonizer, ghostplate and splinter pistol Kabalite with Dark lance kabalite with blaster all the other normal guys I don't know if the sybarite is actually worth it bc of his points cost. Now can someone please do me a favor and build an army list or tell me how i should proceed with? Any help at all is VERY appreciated! Thanks so much! EDIT: Also, reavers would be prefered on the list. Their bladevane attack w/ caltrops seems very powerful. If it's false that DE suck now in close combat, a CC army would work too! If theres anything incorrect with my assumptions, please do tell me! | |

| Close combat doesn't suck at all if you ask me, it's still very powerful, but 6th edition does favor shooty armies.
Now! if you want to play a shooty DE list, then you must still keep it mobile, otherwise you'll be shot to pieces.
It's important to have at least one counter assault unit in case you meet something that you wish to tie up or keep from shooting.
So i think a balanced list is the way to go. DE doesn't suck in close combat, but feel no pain changes does hurt us a bit.
Low toughness values of course makes us very vulnerable to alot of things so expect things to die quickly.
One close combat unit that i find quite durable is Beastmasters with Baron Sathonyx attached to them.
FOC = 2 HQ's, 6 Troops, 3 Elites, 3 Fast Attack, 3 Heavy Support. at 2000 Pts you can double the amount of slots that are in each section of the FOC.
Some things in the codex allows for you to mess around a bit with the FOC.
Baron can make Hellions troop choices instead of fast attack
Haemonculus can make Wracks troop choices instead of being elite choices. (you can take 3 Haemonculus per HQ slot, and split them up around the army as you like)
I strongly recommend you to read the 6th Edition book instead of reading too much in the 5th edition mini book as many things have changed.
When it comes to the sybarite, i think he is a valid option to have in a unit of warriors because of the higher leadership, but is not a must. The wargear on the sybarite is too pricey. You will most likely be shooting a lot more with warriors than being in close combat, so the agonizer is better used in a more CC oriented unit.
A note on Agonizers is that they are only AP3 now in 6th edition, so terminator armor and other 2+ armour save units will just be laughing at it. You also need a 4+ to wound with it.
A good place to start reading about how Dark Eldar units work is to check out Plastikente's guide, i'll throw in a link here: [url=http://www.thedarkcity.net/t4935-plastikente-s-dark-eldar-unit-guide-the-final-cut]

| Ok then, I'll take your advice and go for a balanced list.
I think i should take off the agonizer and just give the sybarite a splinter rifle. Also, swap the DL for a splinter cannon? Now the main question is do i take a raider with splinter racks? Or do i give the splinter cannon guy a blaster as well, and split the squad into 2 to go on venoms? And the venoms will have dual splinter cannons

| 5 kabalite warriors with a blaster in a venom is a well known and viable i'd say. The extra splinter cannon is too good not to take on venoms.
10 warriors with SC in a raider should always have splinter racks. A night shield is very nice to keep you out od rapid fire range and such.
Which one you should take is not my place to say, they are both good ;-)

| On the final note, you suggested me getting the 6th ed rulebook before anything else, but the complete rulebook is out of my budget. I've just enough to buy the small one that came with the starter 6th edition set. If i get that, does it have just the same rules as the big book? Because the bigger one just has tips on painting and alot more pics, but they've both the same rules? | |

| yeah, to get you started on the rules itself, the mini book should do just fine;) this hobby doesn't have to cost more than it already does, and while playing games, the mini 6th ed book will be much easier to look into than the great tome/murder weapon of a rules set. Go for the mini one at first | |
