Fellow Archons:

There is an upcoming tournament that I would like to do well at. I placed well but I want to do better (had the misfortune of playing against someone who routinely goes to adepticon Evil or Very Mad). I also want to do this with style and without buying more than one box of models. I also would rather that this be done stylishly. This is what I got so far.

Head Quarters
Succubus with Agonizer 85

Elites
3 Kabalite Trueborn with Dark Lances 86
3 Kabalite Trueborn with 3 Blasters in Venom with Dual Splinter Cannons & Night Shields 156

Troops
5 Kabalite Warriors with Blaster in Venom with Dual Splinter Cannons & Night Shields 135
5 Kabalite Warriors with Blaster in Venom with Dual Splinter Cannons & Night Shields 135
10 Kabalite Warriors with Blaster in Raider with Splinter Racks and Night Shields 185
10 Kabalite Warriors with Blaster in Raider with Splinter Racks and Night Shields 185
7 Wyches with Haywire Grenades led by a Hekatrix with PGL and Agonizer in Raider with Night Shields 194

Fast Attack
6 Reavers with 2 Heat Lances 156
5 Scourges with 2 Heat Lances 134

Heavy Support
Ravager with Night Shields 115
Ravager with Night Shields 115
Razorwing Jetfighter with Flicker Fields 155

Summary
7 Blasters
13 Dark Lances
4 Heat Lances
6 Splinter Cannons

The Plan
Deployment strategies will depend on whether I go first or second. If I deploy first, I plan on deploying centrally. If I deploy second, then I will go with an extreme flank denial. Ideally, I want to force heavy infantry weapons to walk. I plan on keeping the Reavers and Scourges in reserve so they do attract attention while the enemy tries to get into range. I will probably place the Trueborn with Dark Lances on one flank in cover. The next few turns would be kiting followed by a brutal short-mid range shooting gallery.

Thoughts?

How often do you end up throwing your Wyches against vehicles or things with a 2+ save?

If it happens regularly, I'd suggest swapping the Succubus's Agonizer for a Venom Blade and Haywire Grenades. If you split it off from its unit, you'll get two thrown HWG instead of one, and the Venom Blade is better at killing things with a 6+, 5+, or 2+ save, and many things that have 3+ or 4+ invul saves.

I would swap both agonisers for venom blades, give the Succubus HWG which gives you enough points for 2 more wyches!

I think this looks pretty solid though must admit I would rather a 3rd Ravager over the Razorwing

Not that often honestly. They destroyed a unit squad of Killa Kans handily and dispatched a depleted mob of Ork Boyz in one game. When faced with 2+ stuff, I usually fly away or just shoot it to death. Anything else is madness. Also, I glued the Agonizers on and do not have magnets....

Basically, I want to take my Wyches because I have never built a list without them and there are some armies I saw that they could help me spank:

A Terminator army with an Achilles Landraider... looked pretty dumb....

Awesome Typhus Zombie army, featuring two custom Heldrakes. I imagine Wyches would be fairly good at contesting whatever objective the zombies were on...and the imagery is pretty cool..

Actually, that's about it. Most everyone was into castling, Imperial Guard, or something equally unimaginative. I suppose Wyches would be pretty good an breaching someone's castle and making a big mess.

I wouldn't bother taking a flyer, honestly. It's not adding any flyer support, and you're already good enough at killing infantry. Take another ravager, and use the points to get the footslogging trueborn a venom. As to the wyches, NEVER run wyches without a haemonculus. Otherwise, you're losing the majority of the squad in explosions and to bolters and flamers. Also don't bother taking night shields on the wych raider, you're going to be wanting to get in close anyway, at which point the night shields are kinda pointless. I'm not a big fan of reavers, but you gotta do what you gotta do I guess. also on the 2nd squad, you need 6 reavers to get 2 lances, so you need one more to make the unit legal.

All in all it's not bad, these are just little things that can combine to be big issues. Best of luck!

I've gotta say that Nightshields are pretty great on Wych Raiders.

Sure, it won't help you dodge stuff in the 36" or higher range when you rush it, but they're absolutely choice for avoiding rapidfire plasma/bolters, and all things melta. It helps if you target one flank or the other rather than going up the middle.

Wyches are pretty great at taking down two or three closely placed vehicles, when given the opportunity. Also, point for point they do pretty great at taking down terminators, especially if you can outnumber them 2 to 1 or better.

I am sorry for what I am about to do.

Well, it has Dark Lances, is harder to kill, can shoot up flyers (not very well but better than everyone else), and has style. I also do not own more vehicles. Also, doing that would not provide enough points to add another Venom.

Normally, I would agree with you. However, I would strongly prefer having more shootings vehicles and class.

I strongly disagree. You nullify melta weapons and when they can shoot, they go from a penetrate chance of 1/36 to 2/3 unless they are within three inches. Then there is jink. Not only that, the purpose/deployment of the Wyches is not in line with what you are proposing. You should never assault head on but flank attack. Reducing the viability of rapid fire weapons is also pretty nice.

You are correct expect those aren't Reavers. Scourges can take two special weapons per five Scourges. It is all about class and lance spam.

This list is quite cool. Well done! I think I might have to steal it for my own nefarious purposes Twisted Evil
You have all the things that I like to use (reavers, blasters, razorwings, splinter racks) and it just seems to gel to me. I like the idea of a 'stylish' and 'classy' list Cool

My only comment is the PGL on the wyches. Why? You could take a haywire grenade for the succubus to help smash vehicles. The remaining 5 points I'm sure could be used somewhere (don't ask me where, but somewhere).

the PGL gives the wyches defensive grenades, in which gives you stealth if the shots come from within 8". Combine that with fleet and charging through cover (which is really good due to fleet alowing you to pick and re-roll your dice) And your wyches pretty much ignore all overwatch (except for flamers... but they would of hurt anyway)

Ah, I see. Silly me, it makes perfect sense now. Razz

Yeah, defensive grenades are pretty sweet. And god forbid you should ever be assaulted (I mean, really?), you can really take the wind out of someone's sails. Units with Rage feel the loss most acutely.

My only regret is my inability to use my Archon and Incubi. Those units and my Scourges are probably my best painted models. Honestly, if I could get another Venom in time, I would seriously consider dropping the Jetbikes and taking some Incubi. Not slamming Reavers--they're really good and look awesome--but they get a lot of spotlight.
