Kabal of the Blood Rain

So, I played Dark Eldar from the time they came out in the 3rd edition box set, I think, till the current codex. I wasn't very happy with the new Wyches, not so much in the sculpt but the anime style hair cuts. It really just threw me for some reason. Add to that that everyone in my local crew suddenly wanted to play them and I my lack luster attitude with 5th and I really needed something to keep me in the hobby. So I sold them and started playing my own chapter of Space Marines. This was fun but I still looked back on my DE days with a mournful longing to play them once more. Money not being the most bountiful of things I stayed with my Marines. With the advent of 6th my fuel for gaming in the 40th millennium grew once again and the hole my heart for my DE grew as well. about a month ago a DE player from my local club decided that he was not wanting to play them anymore as he felt they where not a viable force in 6th and he sold me his sizable collection for half the cost. That being said I like to have my own paint schemes and builds to models, particularly moding and magneting. to help keep me motivated I thought I would start this project log. First up is my paint scheme. I looked around a bit and decided to try some smoke effects with a spray gun and true flame templates and blood red glazes. For the accenting bits I think I will try a dark metallic look. Here is the swatch that I made to see the combination to see if the effect would be appropriate.

that looks like a rather nice colour, can't wait to see the models. and I must agree with you statement as the wyches do have anime like hair styles.

Yep like the colour, are you going with regular silver or trying something in NMM like the picture you posted?

Mainly just a dark metallic color for the weaponry and chains and such. I often feel that NMM give an natural look when not held at the right angle. I will probably do a zenith highlight though that will look somewhat similar to he picture if looked at downward. I hope to start the log soon, with the assembly and magnetic posts of my Reaver Jet Bikes as they do not have paint on them yet. The rest I have to strip but I will give full detail in the blog as I go along.

So I got to work today. I thought I would work on my vow first as, well, it was my vow. So the Reaver jet bikes. The ones that I got in the lot were already put together and they had 2 heat lances, a grav talon, and a broken blade.



First thing first I cut off the heat lances, the grav talon, the blade and the right arm of two of the bikers. and then went to bits that I got with them and got the blasters, the cluster caltrops, and the splinter rifle pieces for the bikes as well as one of the extra back blades that was there.



Unfortunately while cutting off the arm of one of the bikers I cut through the bike handle. So, I took some brass rod that I had and replaced it.



I magneted the arm and tested it out with a agonizer that I magneted as well so I could switch between a area champion with extra weapon or just a regular Reaver.





After this I magneted all the options so I could mount the weapon upgrades as well as the bike upgrade to either the weapon upgrade or regular bike.




Now that they are set I can prime and start to paint. hopefully I will get the priming tomorrow and get to painting within the week.
