Pain Token

What does a Pain Token mean in the context of the stats of the users here?

Apologies if this was covered somewhere else and I missed it.

And I just knew someone would ask about that...
It is counter of that how many times Your posts were liked I think.

Reputation.

So there'll be guys with a couple buddies who do nothing but give them +1, artificially inflating their rep. I don't think it's a very good idea.

Me neither. This "like/dislike" function should be left for Facebook, YouTube and blog comments.

This being said, I dislike the Pain Token function of this forum. Who's with me? Like this post, so others can see you agree!

We thought it'd be a cool addition, time will tell, like your post count it is entirely artificial and should form no basis on your reputation - quality of posts will deliver that.

Let's give it a decent chance. I think that TDC members will recognize and acknowledge a good effort regardless of it being Hugo/Nebula Award- or Golden Demon-worthy or not.

And if it does get abused, then it can simply be taken away. No biggie.

I see that these are now gone. While it's fairly obvious why that might make me a happy denizen, what's the official word from the dais?

Tres weird. I can see them recorded under everybody's avatar, but I don't see the +/- (or anything else) to post them any more. I couldn't see them on my PC at home a few days ago (and I used to able to), and I don't see them now on my kids' Macbook.

I find it interesting the the some of the mods are getting negatives. I went from 6 to five and Gobs is at negative one.

To be honest, I am happy for them to be removed if there is a call for it. I am a fan of gimmicks and anything that lends extra flavour to the forum even if they serve little purpose. However if the purpose is detrimental then I am in favour of their removal. Of course I will let everyone else decide first.

I'm on "nay". It appears that if You can dislike, then "like" button is rarely used (ie compared to "only like" system).

Some great posts are left un-plused...

Yeah, just look at the PL subforum. Great models, no pluses. I gave speedfreek one.

I just think it's pointless and lends itself to Trolls too readily.

I hate this pain Taken BS, I made 1 lousy comment to a friend & 2 mods jumped me & Im at -3 now. Total abuse of power in my opinion. The funniest thing to me is I dont see where I can give fellow posters any. (were is the option located?)

I can't really see anyting positive merging from having this Pain Token system.

I also think you could remove the post count (if possible), as this would discourage from spamming to up your count, and instead make the post be valued for what it actually says, not for the "weight" of the poster.

Thats pretty funny.. I noticed 1 positive pain token was given to me..THANKS! Now if I can only figure out how I can leave some myself.

Personally, I liked it.

I think pain tokens as perhaps small 30x30 pixel icons awarded for 'monthly painting challenge' monthly conversion challenge 'best topic or thread' 'most evil eldar' MPC/MCC/BTT/MEE ?

This is something along the lines of what I mean. The icons are modified from guild wars (but icons are ok to use for that ;-) )
