I've been sifting through a bunch of rumour pages (mainly on Warseer, they're pretty good normally) and a lot of the stuff, including some pics of concept models from GD, are pointing to the Avatar being reduced in scale. This would certainly throw my guy, and anyone who has the FW Avatar, way out of the right size compared to its ability to take and dish-out damage.
Hopefully this is a filthy, filthy lie and the Avatar will be re-envisioned as the immense demi-god it really should be. Plus I doubt GW would shoot themselves in the foot like that. Who knows, Avatars may be able to taken as a 'normal' and 'exalted' option in the new dex the rumor for the new Avatar from GW is that it will be 1/2 to 2/3's of the size of the current FW model. supposedly everything in the way of greater daemons and the like is being resized to a larger scale to match or beat the new large models. so i wouldn't really worry to much about the size of it right now.

| Cheers Sangarn.
I wasn't going for Khorne themed but I can definitely see what you mean. I wanted to very clearly mark these guys out as not being Chaos worshippers. I doubt the Dark Eldar would be inclined to worship anything other than themselves. I want the army to be using Chaos to their own ends as opposed to doing what they do in the name of Chaos. Its the ultimate in hubris that they think they can control the daemons they have made pact with.
Work has finally begun on the Wraithguard and although they are proving much more involved tan I had anticipated I'll be getting some WIP shots up tomorrow to show you all what's been haunting my dreams for the last few months. See you then

| The time has come. I've been rambling about the Wraithguard for ages and I've finally been able to make a start on them over the weekend. They're a lot more work than I had planned but I'm hoping the end result will be worth it. I've tried to make these guys look like constructs to fit with the idea of what a Wraithguard is but also I had to tie them into my theme and image for this army. I've used Necron Triarch Praetorian torsos with Dark Angels Veterans legs. I've had to space the torso off the legs a fair bit and also grow the legs so the size is right. The greenstuffing on the robes is not finished by the way, gotta wait for the filler to dry before doing the sculpting. As you can see from the second pic this gives the Wraithguard a good bit of height over the Guardians. The idea for the head originally came from a Thousand Sons army I saw somewhere. The guy had used Grey Knight torsos and made flaming skulls hanging off the psychic hood. I've tried for a similar thing but instead I'm hoping to achieve the look of a ball of flame with a daemon mask suspended in front of it. The flames will need some more GS work. I was gonna try flaming skulls myself but thought the daemon ask would tie in better with the rest of the army. The masks are cut-down and hollowed out Bloodletter faces. I'll be leaving the spine-cage and head assembly loose until after the models are painted as it will allow me to get inside the neck cavity and behind the spine easily to paint. The first guy is gonna be slow while I figure everything out but after that the rest of the unit should go a bit faster. I'm still working out what to do with the Wraithcannons. I'm basing them off Necron Deathmark Synaptic Disintegrators but I have to work out the barrel. Would love to know what you all think of this take on the Wraithguard and any advice you could give to improving it. Cya soon. PHM | |

| i have to agree the ribcage is still just a bit too much necron for me, although the whole thing really does look good. perhaps if you took a page from the wracks and grots, and filled in the ribs so the whole area is flat and then added hose type pieces that run from front to back along the ribs, and ending in points. kinda like x-men wolverines old black and yellow costume, with the black being the new ribbing i'm describing. or, and this would be tricky, but using a skeleton rib cage that has been hollowed out and then place a painted BB inside the ribs with small tubing running of it. | |

| Well well well, the new Eldar are out and my plans have had to take a bit of a turn. First of all I'm going to have to re-work the army list a bit to fit in a Wraithknight and to get a Spiritseer in there to use my Wraithguard how I want to but over-all not a great change list wise. As far as the Wraithguard conversions go there has been a major shift. For one, the scale has been upped considerably. The new kits are immense compared to what I had originally made up and so my idea for them has changed somewhat. First up are some comparison shots to show the scales. You can see that the original conversions are way smaller than the new ones and simply dwarf the standard 'guardian' model on the right. I've therefore had to forego the robes (as much as I loved the idea) on the grounds that I really can't greenstuff robes to fit on the new scaled legs; even if I could I doubt I'd have the will-power to do it, had a hard enough time convincing myself to fill the gaps on the test Wraithguard model. I've kept the torso and head I had originally planned but with a little alteration. I would have loved to keep the spine-cage look going but I found it really made the head and torso area look too small compared to the legs and arms. To combat this I've taken a cue from the Wraithguard design and tried to emulate the warp-vanes that stick out of their backs. I've used the hull-blades from the Raider and Venom kits to keep the general shape of the Wraithguard similar to the original design. I've also kept the daemon-mask heads and plan to again sculpt flames coming from behind the mask. I hope to give the impression of a floating mask suspended over the neck cavity. Let me know what you think; better or worse than the original concept and is it Dark Eldary enough? Cheers, PHM | |

| Wow, these are really rad conversions. The "wraithguard" are my favorite of your conversions. They do look a bit necron-ish, but the pieces from the new wraithguard kits really helped balance that out. I'm also really into the last haemonculus you posted (the non-painted one).
Will you be painting the wraithguard in the red and gold color scheme as well?

| Cheers guys.
@Infamousme: I will be painting the wraithgurad in the red and gold scheme. Thinking mainly red, with the gold mask and maybe the horns/spars from the shoulders also in gold. The internals of the ribs, the balls/globes on their backs and the flames behind the masks will be in the purple that I've spread lightly through the force so far. The back blade I'm tossing up between red and bone, not sure yet.
@Sangarn: Yeah the back blades are from the Raiders/Ravagers. I was thinking of something on the chests too, some kind of soul stone. I'll play around with bitz off other stuff (i'll look at the axes again, didn't notice the stones) or maybe try greenstuffing them.
In other news, little progress model wise at the moment. I have to psyche myself up to do some green stuff work (always hard for me) but I did manage to score a HEAP of bitz off a good mate over the weekend that will allow me to finish off the full wraithguard and wraithblade squads I have planned, after I buy more boxes of wraithguard, and to also get a lot more work on the warp spiders done. Also go enough bitz to nearly make a second full guardian squad.
I have managed to get a hold of the new codex and have made a 2k army list with the help of another f(r)iend who is an elder nut. I'll get a copy up soon but I'm really happy with it. Aiming for foot-slogging and gun-totting to counter my near-total combat based DEldar force.
Hopefully some updated WIPs soon and a run-down of the army list.

| Sweet stuff! Those wraithguard are seriously creepy. They are like something from a horror movie come to rip you to shreds. Nice work | |

| Thanks Spellcheck. The Wraithguard have been a real focal point in my mind for this army and I'm glad to see that everyone is taking to them. I got a lot of greenstuffing done on the weekend so the Wraithguard are nearly ready for paint and half the Warp Spider unit is ready to do. I think I'll be looking to start on the Spiders this week, itching to get a bit of painting in, but until then I've got my army list ready and this will give you all an idea of what to expect from the army as a whole:
HQ:
Grendelin the Pale. The Hungerer, Avatar of Greed Avatar of Khaine Fast Shot
Xylith Half-Soul: The Kinflayer Spiritseer
TROOPS:
The Skin Walkers 10x Guardian Defenders Bright Lance
The Skull Takers 10x Guardian Defenders Bright Lance
Night's Wings 6x Windrider Guardians 2x Shuriken Cannons
The Soul Cages 10x Wraithguard Wraithcannons
The Unquiet Dead 5x Wraith Blades Ghost Axes + Scatter Shields
FAST ATTACK:
The Envenomed Wed 6x Warp Spiders
The Poisoned Bit 6x Warp Spiders
HEAVY SUPPORT:
The Ravaged Host 3x War Walkers 4x Scatter Lasers 2x Eldar Missle Launchers w. Flakk Missiles
The Reaper Wraithlord 2x Brightlances 2x Flamers
The Bone Lord Wraithkinght 2x Heavy Wraithcannons
Comes to just under 2000pts. Hopefully the names of some units will give a hint as to what they'll look like and also give them an added Dark Eldar feel as opposed to scummy Craftworld elder.
Hopefully more updates and pics during the week. Expect to see Spiders next
