DE vs Eldar Corsair

so a 1500 point against a forgeworld corsair eldar army.

the game;
corsair 1st turn, DE stole (as if i would let them go 1st haha)
big guns never tire.
no night fighting
played on 4X4 so didnt roll on deployment set up.
before you read on i need to point out that i have never played against any forge world model and made a rookie mistake of not asking my opponent how each vehicle was armed, if i had my target priority would have changed.


i used the raiders to block line of sight with the terrain, hoping to limit 1st turn casualties as LOS Block terrain was a little scarce. corsair tanks were just lined up waiting to take advantage of AV 10


DE Stole initiative, DE shuffled to get line of sights for the dissie armed raiders and ravageron the hornet as it was the only viable option at av11, the DL ravager moved to draw line of sight to a warp hunter.the reavers turboed to the other board edge to try to draw off some fire with their 3+ jink. the venoms advanced so that the wyches were closer and the blaster could get range on grav tank. i think the grav tank was immobolised turn 1, and i got 1 glancing hit on the warp hunter, after 15 shots at the hornet 1 glancing hit which was saved by cover. not my best turn.


he shuffled to get his saves and disembarked a unit of guardians from the stationary tank to sight the reavers. when my opponent started to go through the dice rolls for the grav tanks i was thinking OMG how am i gunna deal with that much firepower. both venoms went to the 1st 2 tanks killing 2 wyches and 2 true borns in the explosions, the 3rd tank only got its crack missile and 2 star lance in range and only managed a glance on a raider, the hornet rolled two 1s with its crack missiles at the DL ravager, then the big shock was the torrent weapon from a warp hunter which killed all six reavers out right, the wyches ran, TB stayed. so plan a and b was right out the window time for plan c.


the RW failed to come in, the wyches failed to rally.the archons raider moved closer and the wyches and archon dis embarked leaving the Hemo in the raider but taking pain token. the dissie ravager moved to the top of a building and was immobolised but managed a glance on the hornet (this was just gunna be one of those days) but captured an objective.the warrior boat tried to get the hornet but failed. the DL ravager moved forward to target the warp hunter rear but couldn't draw a proper line of sight until the hornet was taken out so lined up the hornet but missed. the blaster born moved forward in the crater made by their venoms and destroyed a grav tank(FGT) killing 3 guardians in the explosion, the archon threw a HWG at the warp hunter but it jinked, the wyches and archon then multi charged the WH and the FGT wrecking both, the guardians and warlock had to get out. felt better now but still faced a lot of high str weapons.


the hornet backed away and managed to destroy a weapon on the DL ravager, the WH to my surprise tried to fry both the raiders getting 1 glance on the Hemo raider, the last FGT targeted the warrior raider only getting a glance. the 2 squads of guardians shot at the wyches only killing 2 thanks to cover from the wrecked FGT, whilst the warlock ran for the building.


RW failed again to arrive, wyches rallied. the Hemo got out and Liquefied 4 Guardians leaving 1 for his master to cleave apart, the wyches moved around the building to take out the WH with HWG, the Hornet succumbed to the ravager at last after it moved up towards the objective. the Blaster born failed to do anything on the last FGT. the warrior boat moved and targeted the guardians and killed all but 1( i not been able to hit for toffee but made almost every flicker saved) the other raider took out 1 guardian with its dissie.


his flyer arrived and wrecked the warrior boat, the FGT took out the other raider, the warlock tried some hocus pocus on the wyches but i denied.


my flyer arrived at last, and velocity locked the other flyer. the warriors took out the last remaining guardian on the far left, the dissie ravager took out the last guardian in the middle. the TB tried to target the flyer but missed(completely forgot about the FGT) the archon re joined the wyches and they charged the building with the warlock causing 5 glancing hits and 1 pen, the pen reduced the armour by 3 and the warlock 4++ all the wounds!!


the flyer tried to take out the wyches, killed 2 then the archon tanked all the other shots but died on the last roll. the wyches then killed the warlock by glancing the building.


the RW flew up behind the flyer taking it out, the blaster born detsroyed the last FGT, the wyches claimed the objective top right.

this game swung on ++ saves after my 1st poor round i thought it was all over. then some miracle saves pulled it back whilst my dice in attack still failed me. weight of numbers with the wyches won this game they totally wrecked everything, even the small squad rallied and held an objective in the end. rule 1 never underestimate what a wych can do to a vehicle, rule 2 NS are still great even against some of the longer range armies(shuriken cannons on the FGT are 24") rule 3 and probably the most important always ask what something can do if you dont know!!

for a while now ive been thinking bout taking out the flyer, for the last 2/3 games it hasn't come in until turn 4 when it arrives automatically, and replacing it with a ravager. re working some of the points and making the reavers a squad of 9. that might mitigate my lack of ranged AT

Yeah flyers are unreliable that way.

As for the 9 reavers, you won't be able to use them as a suicide unit to draw fire like that, well you can, but it's not a good idea. Really useful though. A lot of the time they end up in reserve, so sometimes they only come in on turn 4. But this isn't necessarily a bad thing as the later the reavers come on, the better they are at contesting as they are more likely to have a pain token and have more models on turns 5-6-7.

I have found myself going more and more to reavers, even over my beloved scourges. The last turn linebreaker is priceless.

if i had known about the template from the warp hunter i would defiantly not have flown to that position lol. although i was hoping to draw some of the heavy weapon fire away from my boats first turn by dumping the HL in his deployment zone 1st turn, something he would not have been able to ignore. this is where the rookie mistake came in. they probably would have started in reserve if i had of known.
