So I got into dark elder back in the days of fifth edition and played WWP and raider rush mostly. The advent of sixth edition made both of those lists somewhat unusable in the traditional sense leaving me with large numbers wyches and an unfulfilled lust for melee combat. This is my attempt to solve both of my problems.

HQ
Baron

Troops
5X 5 wyches with haywire, a Hekatrix, a venom blade in a venom with extra cannon and night shields

Fast Attack
5 Beastmasters with 15 khymera and 4 razorwing flocks

Heavy support
3 Ravangers with night shields

Comes out to 1500 points even.

The Baron goes with the beasts to form a twenty-six model blob of forty-two wounds with stealth to take the pressure off the Wyches so they can get close without getting blown to pieces.

I know I can save seventy-five points by cutting the Hekatrix and venom blades but I want to try them out first and see how they do.

Thoughts?

I think you' ll either win big, or lose big. And for a DE player that equals fun, so...

Seems like a well balanced list. If indeed you didn't add the haywires I would've said you need more AT.

The only thing I can think off right now is perhaps you can see if you can split the beastpack in 2 packs giving the opponent even more units to shoot at. Makes targer prioritisation harder for him. But you' ll really have to experiment with that.

I think you could use a raider or two for extra AT T1, but I would give it a try before you make the changes.

I totally dig this list! If it wasnt for my obsession with grotesques and huskblades I would be completely on this gameplan. I can now cease to aspire and succumb to mediocrity.

I have to give credit to Skulnbonz. His battle report inspired the use of large beast packs.

I agree totally with the love of Grotz. I was thinking if I brought the list up to 1750 I may try to include some as an additional bullet sponge. Either that or as shadow pointed out more lances are always a good thing so maybe Sniper born squads with raiders for more Darklance shots.

My current favorite list runs killy archon with grots and 2 beast packs.. thats 81 ultra fast wounds that require anti tank to stand a chance before theyre on top of you.

On your list one thing I would highly recommend is to find 5 pts for grisly trophies on a venom. The unit might have 92% success on moral tests but 5 pts to guarantee they wont run off the board 1st turn is still well worth it especially considering thats your warlord first blood and probably the game all on 1 test.
I learned that the hard way on units with 3d6 fallback.

I like this idea. More shooting is definitely always welcome but some situations are still best handled through disruption and even assault.
