| Welcome to my rather late project log. I have only recently named them after reading the Malus Darkblade novels and thinking about the Slavers Road and the chains of their unfortunate victims. As I like to play a Sliscus style list, I made this kabal a faction or ally of the great Duke, raiding realspace for the flesh of the lesser races to sell to the Haemonculi covens, or, if a particularly juicy specimen, to the Wyches to hone their skills on. The Archon is named Xerus Enjeranii, a murderous, depraved and lust filled individual, revelling in the thrill of death as much as the horror in the eyes of those he captures, but most enjoys the pleas for mercy once their fate is declared. He never tires of the cries, promises and offers of all the depravities of the flesh an individual can offer. So, at this stage I have about 1800 points worth, maybe a little less, but I have been busy creating my Archon. I used predominantly the Sybarite kit with some other bits and pieces to pose him the way I saw him, suave, cool, brutal. Granted, I can also use him as the Duke (he does play with the Dukes rules mostly) so the dual venom blades was a necessity. Anyway, a couple of pics to get the idea. He has been undercoated black, the armour is Khorne Red with Nuln Oil (for now) the rest either Grey or Rakarth Flesh with Earthshade. I have loads of other pictures that I will upload as I go, just to show the rest of the Kabal. So, here he is: I will try to update this regularly as I do tend to paint in bursts and get a lot done very quickly. Then do nothing for a while. Hope you enjoy the journey.

| Noted, stupid phone camera. Will pull out the DSLR and try again. And I understand the light box thing. Thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully over the weekend I can get him finished and display him properly.
Edit: Photo updated via DSLR. Should be a lot easier to see.

| Yes, it does indeed look better now. One thing I think would be good if you changed, would be if the eyes was a little more observable, so to speak. Some more bright coulour or something, instead of as black as the helmet. | |

| This is basically just base coat and wash. There is still a long way to go until he is complete. Most likely the face will be Rakarth Flesh and the hair... well haven't decided yet, maybe purple as that is the other colour for this army. This is my Void Raven in the purple for comparison: and this is his transport that I finished recently:

| Your highlights on the armor are great ! You should do some, in white, on the back pack and the skin too. | |

| Thanks I will give it a try. Really don't want to mess it up as I am pretty happy to this point. There are some on the face but the camera didn't really pick it up, may have to go over them. Not sure how to attack the back piece though. | |

| Alright, with some time off from work I have had some hobby inspiration. This is the latest Kabalite squad to be completed. This groups are fully done, the rest of their kin need some highlights and basing done. So here they are. As always happy for tips or advice on how to make them better Group shot from the front: Group shot to the side and rear: Ex-raider crew just hanging around: | |

| So, in a bit of a hobby boost lately, I have finished off the kabalite squad and started work on my 20 hellions. Hope you like them. This is the full group with my Duke conversion: A close up of my shock prow mounted splinter cannoneer: and some more of the squad: And now the Hellions: And the Helliarch/Baron model that I use if I load that list: As always, tips and critique are welcome. | |

| I really like the "spare parts" basing, but i think you can paint the sand.
Your painting has been improved, we can see it on the hellions. good Job !
Just one thing, cause i had the same problem with my army, try to not use the gloss varnish that much. It can look great on one miniature, but on a whole army, it really doesn't render that well. Indeed, i tried to use something between gloss and matt, and not put it on the faces, the clothes and other stuff that dosen't need a gloss varnish.
I hope my post is understandable, sorry about my english.

| Thanks again for the tips and encouragement. And there is nothing wrong with with your English. I am Australian and most can't speak it properly here, most Europeans try harder to get it right. I will try to change the varnish, it is watered down but I can see your point about them being too shiny. Thanks for taking the time out to respond. | |

| well, in a bit of a hobby thrust lately I have finished my first ravager and the first two scourges of their five man squad. These are awesome to paint (scourges) and, IMO, fairly simple once you get started. I painted the ravager in this scheme as it adds a different flavour to the vehicles and makes up the trio in my vehicle line up, red, purple and white. anyway, without further ado... Side view of the ravager: Front on: Front 45 rear quarter: Scourge and Solarite front: Scourge and Solarite side: Scourge and Solarite rear: Scourge Feathers close up: I really love the colours of these wings. It is all dry brush bar the base coat and wash. The other two feathered scourges will be green and purple, trying to keep with the fluff and the individuality of all of the scourges. not sure about the other bat wings yet, probably do them the same. Anyway, critique and tips welcome. i have tried to tone down the varnish but it looks a little heavy still. On the table you don't tend to notice, but photos really bring it out. | |

| Weapons and wings are great ! but I think the armors need some highlights to maintain that good looking level. | |

| The gloss on the red armor looks nice. The shine gives it a slick wet look which makes me think of exposed tissue. If you did some careful freehand you might be able to make it look like exposed muscle after someone was skinned. Which has a very Dark Eldar feel to it. It doesn't need it though as it already looks good.
I would agree with Herbert West on being careful with varnish in most cases though. I would avoid using it on skin, or anything that you don't want to be very shiny.
The hellions are detailed well. Good job!

| I did use a highlight but doesn't show up. Its xereus purple armour with the daemonette hide/genestealer (can't remember which) highlight. Have been told that pink actually makes a good highlight for purple. Thoughts? | |

Here's a thought: start with a darker colour (the base to Xereus and Genestealer Purple is Naggaroth Night) and leave some of that showing in the recessess. It won't make your highlights brighter, but it will increase contrast, which is really what you're going for. Of course, there's always Lucius Lilac or Dechala Lilac to highlight even further up. Or mix in a light tone like Pallid Wych Flesh.

| Well, obviously no one liked the succubus, so here are some beasts and a raider I have recently finished. almost have my 1750 pt tournament army painted, two raiders and three hellions to go!!! plus all the other stuff that isn't in the list but I had to have (scourges I'm looking at you). So anyway: First up, birdies... these were surprisingly simple, lots of dry brushing and a little detailing. Next up: puppies... could not get a decent photo of these, tried many times. The ones you can see look like all the rest. Followed by: Claude the Fiend. This was painted by my brother, who is way better than me. Does commission work if you are interested. and this one; and finally the masters. One of these was also painted by my brother, the one with the leather whip. and finally, a raider that I have been working on. Not quite complete, just missing the random accoutrements. last one Enjoy. As always, comments and critiques welcomed. | |
