Hey guys, R4gg3dym4n here!

Not gonna lie, I'm new to TDC, though I know it's been around for awhile. Instead, i decided to focus on setting up a fun little blog on wordpress called 'Denizens of the Dark City'. Right now, it's still pretty fresh, but I was hoping to jump on here and send the word out to all you DE players!

I'm looking for the best! The blog will be focused on grabbing the BEST DE painters, tacticians, and modelers around the world and focusing our collective creativity into one site for everyone to enjoy. Painting and modeling tutorials, well tested tactica and army-by-army strategies is what we need. Post as much as you want or post casually, the focus on the site is to have fun and showcase the best that Commorragh has to offer!

Keep in mind, DotDC in no way is trying to steal you from TDC! On the contrary, our goal is to become synonymous with TDC, but giving focus on the select few who are not only skilled, but are willing to showcase it for others to see and learn from. We're looking for the cream of the crop - not the casual DE army players, but the ones that BLEED for this army!

We need 1-2 people highly experienced for the following sections;

Painting / Painting Tutorials- The best painters, not afraid to break it down for the rest of us!
Modeling - everything from bases to full figures! From bit swaps to custom DE terrain!
Tactica and Strategies - Heavy playing required! These are the BEST strategies for the DE! BatReps and enemy army strategies - Dark Eldar are as cunning as they are strong!
Army List Builder - Coordinate with our tacticians and organize armies based around the best strategies.

In addition, DotDC is looking to begin hitting Youtube with its tutorials, discussions, and BatReps! Furthermore, we will experiment with a new idea of filming and editing BatReps to make them fun and exciting for those watching and quite possibly appeal to even those not into Warhammer 40k!

If you, or anyone you know, would like to jump aboard, please visit the blog - you can view it under my profile, since I cant post links for 1 week. Hit me up on the blog or through email.

Please include (in email or a link to) photos of your work, tutorials you've written, etc. etc.

Why only focus on a select few? How do you define "cream of the crop"? How do you define "casual DE army player"?

On a forum everyone has their own say no matter how inexperienced. You get new players who aren't bound by the trappings and habits of those who have been in the hobby for a long time and are willing to try things that more experienced players may have overlooked or dismissed. New players bring energy, creativity and innovation. Experienced players are often set in their ways and scared to leave their comfort zone leading to stagnation.

Maybe I'm missing something but as far as I'm concerned this forum offers everything you mentioned and more.

But then again I'm only a casual DE player.

As a new player who came here to learn about the DE army I acquired on the cheap, I have to say that your proposal sounds like the least helpful thing I would want. Plastikente's unit guide, Thor's Trueborn and Incubi fics, and the set up of a forum that, by nature, thrives on discussion while fostering a community spirit were far more helpful and enticing for me to actually pick up the DE rather than just resell them.

Plastikente's guide actually helped me figure out how each unit was supposed to be used, allowing me to decide that I wanted a Kabal+Cult list rather than anything from the Covens. Thor's writing helped me understand how the DE thought and behaved, allowing me to flesh out the fluff for my own army. And they also inspired me to turn a hand to writing my own fic as a supplement to my own Kabal's fluff.

A blog is a poor substitute for The Dark City and its resources. Especially since it won't have Thor's writings on it.

I dunno about other newbies but I'll stick with The Dark City. It has more character and is much less discriminating. Once I get back to the US, I'll be posting my own project log. The Dark City has made me excited about playing a 40K army after close to six years of lack of interest in my Imperial Guard and Black Templar.

Aw you guys are grumps. I like blogs well enough, I say do your thing dude!

I will say that having a post count of 1 here and 8 on dakka is not going to recruit the best tacticians and painters. If you want to recruit then you should start putting out your own material and grow your base. If people like it then you can grow your blog once you are a respected blogger. It looks like you've been playing the hobby for a month which does not inspire any confidence in the longevity of your endeavour.

But if you do keep at it for a while it sounds like you've got your chief tactician and chief strategist up there!

I personally came to the dark city because I liked the info I tried to put some list on here but got negative input but I have only lost 4 games out the 20 I played...
I run heavy warrior and wytch cults and got bashed on other forums due to me not running 3x ravagers or duke instead of archons but as I said I love challenges... I been playing csm and let's face it 2 heldrakes or 3 havoc squad with autocannons does crazy damage but I wanna have fun not just easy win button ...

I been thinking of doing barreps but once I get into my gaming clubs I rather just play then hold a phone... But I will soon

I think it's a bit silly to complain about feedback, at the end of the day no one is forcing you to follow it. It's your list you know what works for you, you should be able to discern the feedback that's valuable to you from the feedback that isn't.

Every time I used to post a list I knew at least someone would tell me to add venoms or another ravager. But that's fine, they are entitled to their opinion and I'm entitled to ignore it. On the other hand every time I posted at least some of the feedback I got would be invaluable, something I had overlooked, something I had missed. It's a numbers game. You need to remember anyone can leave feedback on your army, regardless of experience.

If you are happy with your list and it's doing well and are not prepared to change anything why ask for feedback in the first place?

If there's things you don't want to change then make it clear and explicit in your post. I find the more effort you put into your army list post, and the more information you give the reader about what your goal is and how you want to achieve it then the more likely you are to get the sort of feedback you want. After all nobody knows your list better than you! Smile

Another suggestion is to find a member who makes well thought out posts that you like and message him, most people on here are more than happy to give you direct feedback. That or drop into the Real Space chat at the bottom of the forum, there's always a bunch of us on there chucking ideas around.

Hope that helps. Smile

I think it sounds kind of hobby-snobby.

Don't get me wrong, i'd like to see a new dark eldar blog out there, but limiting to the cream of crop or Whatever doesn't appeal that much to me.

But if you can make it work, it would probably look pretty neat.

I appreciate the feedback guys! I will admit, it does sound a little hobby-snobby, but the goal would be rallying the accomplished DE players here on TDC and Dakka and really focusing our energy into highlighting the best of what DE has to offer. The best strats, the best painting tutorials, etc.

Now as expected, this has been met with some criticism, which was expected. The real question is - what do you have to lose by focusing your hobby skills into a site for others to share? There are enough people out their that constantly argue over strategies and even bash new painters. I've seen new gamers and paints scared away from the hobby because of this - and that's a shame.

This is a hobby we all love and enjoy, why not share that with others minus the bashing? I want to find those players out there that really love the Dark Eldar army, and want to share that with old and new gamers.

The blog, by no means, will try an be a snobby, elitist DE site, it aims to be open to everyone - but when you go there, you know you're gonna get quality, original content, strategies, etc. Those army lists that have been playtested to death, those amazingly skilled painters that are willing to break everything down for you in their tutorials (i call it the Bob Ross approach!), and those players willing to analyze other armies to find the best lists to use.

The blog will be more of a solid reference than a place for people to debate.

Okay, that's an interesting idea. I think my preferred tactic in your position would then be to find an article you like and then PM the author asking him for permission to include it on your blog. It's a big commitment to be a dedicated blogger and I think you'd have a lot more success asking for guest bloggers than asking for someone to write similar material every so often when they've already written articles here.

I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm glad you've had so much success. I don't know if you were aware of this, but the description of the Army List section is, "Post your Army List for comments and critique". Most people will give you C&C unless you specifically ask for people not to give it. Some people will post army lists there just so other users can see what they're currently running and that's fine.

As always, if you're running an unusual list then post battle reports so we can learn from you! Very Happy

Alright, when put like that it sounds very much better. I am by no means an elitist when it comes to 40k in general, but dark eldar is my favorite army so far.

I consider myself a decent painter though. Not like golden daemon good, but good enough for my own stansards Smile

I also think fuhrmaaj is onto something with guest articles and stuff ;-)

I spend a considerable amount of time here posting in the painting section:tutorials, my project log (which is getting out of hand), and perusing the blogs of others. I mod the painting section and have never seen a member bash the painting skills of a new painter. "Criticism" that I have seen was actually constructive criticism designed to help painters grow. I win best painted awards at most of the tournaments that I go to(albeit LFGS-sized tournaments- no illusions of grandeur here Razz ), and painters leave criticism of my painting all the time. I don't view this as bashing, I am thankful for the perspective and objectivity offered. It has made me a better painter and I am thankful for the input of other members.

Um, have you tried this site? Link

Is this a reference site, forum, or a blog? No debate=no differences of opinions. I may not agree with many of the optimized lists posted on this site, but I do learn quite a bit from some of the conversations and have learned to see many units/combos in a different light. You may learn from "only the best quality", but you also learn from the mistakes of others.

Your idea is simply being met with resistance here because you are proposing to make something that already exists by recruiting from its base. This is much like walking into am existing band's rehearsal talking about a new band that you would like to form using the best members. BTW, in this example none of these band members have ever met you before(your proposal was your very first posting here Evil or Very Mad ) I wish you luck with this site and admire your enthusiasm, but I have found this site to be the friendliest and best-quality DE site period.

I think it's a bit harsh to immediately assume this forum is like Dakkadakka or Warseer, especially since you have only just signed up. We have a great community here and simply put we don't tolerate the sort of behaviour you described. If you have a read around the forum I'm sure you will come to the same conclusion yourself.

I joined a year ago, my first post was a battle report, I got so much positive feedback despite my unorthodox list that I kept posting reports and the feedback kept getting better and better. I also got loads of direct feedback from all the great tacticians that lurk on TDC chat.

This community really helped me grow as a player and still does. It's amazing how much more I get out of all aspects of 40k than I did before I found TDC.

What you are trying to create with your blog already exists. It exists right here on this forum. Very Happy

I came to this forum in search for advice, inputs and "know hows" when I picked up Dark Eldar.
I'm not a frequent poster but I read most of the new posts every day.
All I can say that this forum has a warmth that forums like Dakka and such is lacking.
The users in here is both helpful, polite and open to new strategies. Opposite to Dakka Smile

Where TDC members says: yeah try that list out, but you could also do like this. Dakka is more like: No you are doing it wrong. Burn that list of yours and apply netlist 1.1...
