Challenges and Majority Rule

So here's a good question or in my case probably another stupid one lol.

So this unit is in combat
1 Archon
Lelith
4 Grots

Archon is in a challenge, the rest are dukeing it out in combat. So does the archons toughness remain 5 as the majority rule or do you use his standard toughness 3.  My friend and I looked it up and it seems like a huge over sight on GW's part but we all know this is a common occurrence.  We (my friend and I) believe it's simply a matter of RAW vs RAI.  What do you guys think?

I would think that, in the challenge, his toughness would just be 3, given that there is no ambiguity whatsoever as to wound allocation. The challenge is essentially treated as an entirely separate combat for all intents and purposes.

Because otherwise it would be INSANE.

This is actually covered in the FAQ.

They use their own toughness - not majority toughness.

No worries - you are sort of obligated to constantly pay attention to the FAQs, because GW has a laundry list of clarifications to put out on a constant basis.

You can choose to take that as them caring about us and wanting to help - r them having sloppy editing prior to release depending on whether or not you like to bash or praise the company
