| I'm basically smushed in a corner with the WAAC Tyranid player in our planetary empires campaign, and am therefore going to work on wiping him off the map before moving outward. Thoughts on this 1028pt (max 1030 points from special PE stuff) list to basically attempt to table a 'nids force? I'm expecting something like the Doom, a flyrant, gaunts, maybe some hive guard, likely zoanthropes, and probably tervigons.
HQ - Haemy, VB - 55pts
Troops - Wracks x9, Raider w/FF, NS, EA, DL - 175pts Wyches x5, HWG, Venom w/SC, NS - 135pts Wyches x5, HWG, Venom w/SC, NS - 135pts
Elite - Kabalite Trueborn x3, SC x2, Venom w/SC - 121pts Kabalite Trueborn x3, SC x2, Venom w/SC - 121pts Kabalite Trueborn x3, SC x2, Venom w/SC - 121pts
Heavy Support - Razorwing Jetfighter, Dissie x2, Necrotoxin x2, FF - 165pts
Dissies or Lances on the Razorwing? Can't remove or edit (except to add to) the Haemy, Wracks (+Raider) or Wyches (+Venoms) as they're a fixed battalion. I know they've got too much kit, but that's that. The rest is being added on. Please let me know if you think this is solid, how you'd change it knowing the enemy will be 'Nids, and why! Cheers for your time

| That list should completely own nids, heck most DE lists own nids. Kill the tervigons first to pop his swarms and ignore the flyrant unless he jams the big guy ahead of the rest of his army then by all means drop him. I usually throw the odd warrior shots his way and anything I have that was forced to snapshot. If he grounds then I pounce. Otherwise hes overpriced against our MSU although hes good against flyers but I imagine the reverse is also true (I dont run flyers).
Honestly id say the wracks are your weakest link in this matchup although maybe im misrepresenting them since I dont use them much..
I would look to keep them out of the fight until you've cut his army down to a more manageable size where they can finish units off.
He will be reduced to being the aggressor (as usual) so I would deploy with that in mind. Its not a bad idea to take second simply to refuse flank since your superior range will crush him. Lastly dont be averse to leaving a sacrificial unit behind to anchor a redeployment if things go south and hes in your face. If he goes for the bait you can put a couple turns of shooting between you and he.
Thats what Ive got. | |

| I just got some advice from Dakka that I should drop the necrotoxin missiles in favour of an LG on the wracks, and to swap the Razorwing Dissies to DLs. Thoughts?
Yeah Tervigons are my primary target for sure, no extra mobs for him thx. But I'm also worried about Zoanthropes S10 shots blowing up my precious venoms. Wracks I'm not too worried about, they should make a damn fine meat-shield vs any MC that gets too close. With multiple poison CC attacks each, I'm hoping to get at least a couple wounds and a few rounds of CC out of them.
I was definitely thinking of going for second to be able to deploy properly. Questions for that; If he spreads out, should I corner-castle to be able to focus fire like crazy? Or should I spread so he can't cage me?
Cheers for the tip on the sacrificial unit, I wouldn't have thought of that.

| Ah yes I didnt look too close at the RW but i think most people have best success with the dark light.. meanwhile we probably have the best anti infantry in the game so dizzies are overkill.
LGs im torn on, I love em but they have often killed too many models leaving me high and dry. That said in this matchup I would probably take 2 (1 on the haemie).
Dont spread out. He cant corner skimmers unless he literally spreads to deny the whole board so thats not a concern. Mission dependent but id let him take 1st turn and one small mistake later your shooting with no retaliation for 2 turns.. Of course giving up 1st will cause suspicion and if hes good he will probably deploy with your tactic in mind. Thats fine because you can still snap up half his army piecemeal. Then thats where the sacrificial unit(s) can come in if he does make it to you so you can boost away although obviously some things are fast enough to keep pressure on you. TLDR I would refuse an entire flank, the nastiest one and kill the other half. (a million edits later.. Im trying to keep this a little vague in case he reads but there is a counter to this if he does it correctly and you should see it immediately just be looking)
Now a word of caution: remember doom. You can either try to deploy to deny its LZ or spread away from obvious target LZs when its set to arrive. If you dont you will really regret it.
On the zoans I havent faced these in awhile but I remember their range is limited (24" max I believe no matter which discipline) so they are either slogging or DSing. Neither is that appealing for him honestly.

| ok, on RW, I would do Dissies. Normally I'm all lance all the way. But your issue vs. nids will be volume of troops rather than the MC's. The MC's you focus on with your other weapons.
I would totally leave the necrotoxins. Two large blast area 2+ poisoned weapons gives Nids a bad hair day all the time. (that tervigon you're worried about for example. you can likely hit him and the nasty little gribblies he spawns).
He will have an issue with range with his army. So castle up in the corner and exploit that. In general vs nids my advice is normally that you need night shields on EVERYTHING. Against nids, range is king. If you can't afford the night shield, you can't afford the vehicle. That said, from what you say above, you're a bit limited on additional points to spread around
