Unfortunately it didn't do well. After a cancellation it came up against a replacement Nurgle Marine army filled out with far too many Plague Zombies.

But a very, very good laugh.

The Sslyth didn't 100% survive, but mostly it was fine. Just needed a very slight repair. It will be going into the Court of the Archon alongside a group of demi-Archons.

As promised, seeing as they were completed, here's a final shot of my Kabalite Warriors in a group. All 78 of them.

The crafting table has eight models on at the moment in the process of being painted.
Five of these are my Seer Council, fully built and painting has started.
I've got a Slyth from Devilish still to be added to the Court of the Archon. He's just waiting for some work on the base to finish drying.
I've got two other demi-Archons in the works as well, one scythe-wielder in the process of being painted, and one other I've only recently started building. This guy will stand alongside Kruellagh as one of my "no longer existing characters" hiding and under the protection of my Kabal, and with the theme I've worked on him so far I definitely think this is going to be Duke Sliscus. The legs come from an old metal Hellion, with new feet added to stablise him after I had the bring the legs closer together to fit on a bade. The body is old an old Vampire Counts Blood Dragon, and the head is Deathstroke. I recently got into the Batman Miniatures Game, and the better of the two Deathstroke models come with an extra head - bare, and wearing an eyepatch. Perfect for the piratey Sliscus.

A couple of new Demi-Archons join the Court:

First up, the final part of the Secret Space Raid gift I got from @Devilish, a lovely Sslyth.
Regretably it got a little damaged during transport (damn you Royal Mail! I assume.....) so I had to do a little repair work, and added a coat to cover most of what I couldn't be bothered to fix.
But the figure comes together quite nicely, and I thank Devilish for this contribution to my Court.

And finally, this weird, scythe wielding, rosey guy.
The main blade of the scythe comes from a WFB Empire Wizard, and the body is our current plastic Archon, although to remove the cape I had to completely build a new back. I mean, I didn't have to, but I thought it'd be a laugh. The result is what appears to be a small jet pack, which on an Archon I think looks quite nice.
Thematically, were it not for painting him completely the wrong colour, I;d be tempted to say this was Aestra Khromys of the Obsidian Rose, but the colour is wrong (too close to Kruellagh), so I'll need to think up a new name for this chap, and a new rose or vine themed Kabal for him to bring to the Eternal Night's banner.

Demi-Archon = the not quite army-leading Archons who thematically have swonr allegiance to my Kabal's Archon, and for the purposes of a 40k Dark Eldar army will just be random members of the Couert of the Archon. Instead of using standard Medusae, Sslyth, whatever, I'm using a small collection of lesser Archons instead.

Howdy all, a new update to the log.

Today, with permission from SaintSpirit, I'm going to share th model I built for him for Santa's Secret Space Raid.

The brief I got was something Harlequin, but "Please not a Solitaire".
So ok I thought, how about a Death Jester.
On the off chance he had one already, I opted to convert a shiny new one, and this is what resulted:

The base model is Illic Nightspear, a good, dynamic pose with a nice long coat and a shooter like the Death jester, so I thought he'd work well.
The body was smoothed out to startr, and a few things removed. The coat had to have a little bit of green stuff to fill in where I did some cutting and drilling.

The head used to have a candle on top of it, and comes from the hand of an Empire Wizard. Extra green stuff work turned it into a helmet similar enough but also slightly different to a standard Jester.

The body I took a drill to to carefully carve out Illic's chestpiece, so that I could green stuff in a new carapce that closely resembles a Death Jester's ribcage motif.

Finally, Illics sniper rifle was completely removed and replaced with a custom weapon built from plasticard rods and part of a shuriken rifle. The intention was to build something that wasn't just Illic's sniper rifle, and wasn't just a shuriken catapuklt. I had the option of a catapult or a cannon, but one was too small and one was too big.
So I used the catapult as a component on a custom weapon the design of which was meant to resemble a rail-gun, which I thought would work well for the kind fo firepower a Death Jester throws out.

I was really happy with the end result, so much so it was a real shame to post it off and not just keep it. Ah well.

What do you guys think of it?

A brief distraction, but I couldn;t be bothered to starta  new thread. I was quite pleased with the painting I got done on these guys though, so felt the desire to share.

Just finished my Deathwatch from the Overkill set:

If you've seen or have the models yourself, you'll noticed I removed anything scenic from the bases, like many of the things certain models were standing. I just really don't like scenic bases.

"Why Captain Cassius, there appears to be a Genestealer head stuck to the bottom of your boot. Do you plan on walking around with it forever?"

I can understand exactly what you mean with the specific scenic bases. Having the same genestealer corpse follow him around for his entire existence would get quite taxing even for a veteran alien hunter.

Themed bases are one thing - perhaps an urban, desert or swampy environment for the whole army - but scenic bases are a bit repetitive.

Do you find normal Scourge bases much the same with those highly specific bases?

Basically, yeah.

I don't mind a themed base if its just terrain. I just tend not to like obvious really large elements like specifically placed rocks that guys are standing on, or specific parts of buildings. It may just be me, as I can easily say they look great from a display perspective, but on the tabletop they've just never made snese to me, so I've tried to never have them in my own armies.

I've been digging out some old projects and seeing what I can slavage, and was hit by inspiration. There were some old models I had in progress that were originally going to be a harlequin Troupe, but they I decided I didn't like the look too much and abandoned them.
But looking over them, I realise I had enough parts for another planned project, and thought it would go quite well.

So, with the Seer Council built and being painted, I decided it was time for the next batch of Eldar allies I wanted to add - an Aspect Host. Specifically I'm amused by Warp Spiders, and just like the concept, but I don't really like the models. They're just really old and dated and not as poseable as I'd like.
So, I started building my own, using what used to be my Harlequins in progress.

And heres a quick example:

So what you've got here is one base, one Warp Spider, and one Exarch. I'm having three units of five, so three of the Exarch on the right with the wingless Hellion body on Corsair legs. THe model on the left is Corsair legs again, with bodies from a Hail Caeser! Celtic Warriors set.
I have some Eldar Guardian arms on order and on their way so arm these guys up.
The main theme though is from the base. You see there the slightly shiny clear plastic I acquired from hacking apart a CD. Once built, I plan to cut massive chunks off of the Warp Spiders and gluing them onto the clear plastic to the appearance of the Warp Spiders stepping or leaping out of fractures in space. I think the effect will be quite nice.



And as a quick throw in, you may have recently seen the stupidy of my Sporemine army. With that on my mind, I decided to expand my Last Chancers/Inquisition force a little with some new models, the idea being that taken with some of my existing Inquisition units I can field a ridiculously LOW model count as well as the high count of the Sporefield.

For this then I had to build five more Inquisitiors:

Two Power Armours on the top, one a Captain from Black Reach, the other a Captain from Dark Vengeance (which I'm having to do a lot of work on to rebuild the front torso and arms), and below them two Carapace Armours, one a Space Marine Scout and the other a Tempestus Scion base.
All four of these guys - Conversion Beamers. Yeah.

And on the right, not much done except given a new backpack and head, and a few icons shaved off, to be Inquisitor Coteaz.

I've been having soooooo much fun lately.

My entire Imperial/Inquisition army has needed rebasing, at the same time I've really needed to and am in the middle of finishing basing my Sporefield, which has been a challenge in itself (I started flocking, then discovered the flock I wa susing was quite bulky and not fine, so it was sticking down patchy. As a result, each mine has needed two layer of the flock.)

BUT, I've still found time to work on other things, and I've got the main bulk of my Aspect Host more or less ready.

So bodies, legs, arms are done. I still need to do green stuff work to smooth arms/shoulders into the torsos, but we're well on the way to three squads of five Warp Spiders to maske up a nice small Aspect Host.
Thematically, they're designed to fit my other Eldar allies. My Seer Council are prisoners, and I have four Eldar themed Assassins designed as outcasts from the Craftworlds. These Warp Spiders fit along that theme. They're stripped down of most of their tech, and thus seen here bare-chested.

I've ordered some heads, my plan being to use these Spellcrow "Space Elf" heads:

Though, to be honest, I'd also probably feel bad if I got something like that from a gift exchange, knowing I just sent someone a plain ravager or something. Haha.

A few fun bits of work done this week, including finally getting the Sporefield fully painted and based. I'll get a picture next time I'm able to get it onto a tabletop.

Beyond that, new addition to the Dark Eldar, by which I mean Eldar - a test paint of one of my Warp Spiders:

ITS TIME.

I'm stil, working on Warp Spiders (half painted now) and a Seer Council (partially painted) but its time to think about buolding something new.

And I think its time for another big build.

Now, I know the rules we've been given aren;t amazing, but with the release of Death From The Skies, we do now have a Flyer formation. Yes, the rules may be naff, but its there. Its an option. And work a crack I think.

So, what I need is two Voidravens. I have a collection of flyers, and they work well as Razorwings, but I need something a bit larger for Voidravens. And two of them.

So, after working through soime designs, this is the final I decided on:

The plan starts with the same core unit as my Bastion - a small hamster/rodent ball.

The design will have the ball at the centre. Both lids (top and bottom) will be left out, and the ball will be laid sideways so the two holes are at the front and back. I'll then be building an interior platform with control consoles and monitors whic will fit neatly inside the ball, and have a primary pilot standing by the front hole. Of both Voidravens.
If I can, I may cut an additonal hole into the bottom of the ball (so that there are three) so that there is somewhere for the Void Bomb to be dropped.

The two outer wings will be fixed to the ball hull is a similar style to Tie Fighters, but they'll be larger, spikier, and will not be at a fixed angle. I imagine them able to turn and pivot as propulsion aids. Or thrusters. Or something like that. Either way, the side wings turn and spin. THey probably won;t on my final build, but they're being designed to like they should.

The design of the wings will be similar to the rings of my large Gyro-scope Revenant Titan, with exposed areas of wire mesh and inlaid spiky patterns.



Thats the plan.

I have the plasticard for the wings, I just need to get started by purchasing a pair of small hamster/rodent balls and get cracking on the hull of the central unit.

I have changed my mind.

Having looked at starting work on these Voidravens, I decided not too. Something just went off in my brain, and I am no longer a massive fan of the design concept. Voidravens are still something it'd be fun to build, but I don't think this si the right design for it, and I don't know if I'm even going to USE the intended Formation.

So I changed my mind. No Voidravens.

Of course I do have two Hamster Balls now. A pair of spheroids waiting for a project, or four half-spheroids.

So what to do with them?

Well, there is another project I'd been considering, and this opens some possibilities.

I like toying with Fortifications in Dark Eldar armies. I think they can help a bit, and I think I know the next one I want.


THe VENGEANCE WEAPONS BATTERY is a fun little thing.
Its 75pts, but you can add a second for another 75pts, but they only count as one Fortification choice. For that you get an AV 14 lump, with a 24" range Heavy 20, S5, AP - cannon OR a Quad-Lascannon with range 96". OR +10pts for a Battle Cannon.
The best thing about them though is that they are automated, so no wasted unit manning them. Two of these sitting in my deployment zone would be great for defence, more so for Intercepting with the Quad-Lascannons. It would definitely help against Drop-Pod spammers.

And so the new plan - some Vengeance Weapons Batteries.

But it'll probably be spikier.

I have four half-speroids, so I might as well make four of them unless a better idea comes along. I'll likely make all three weapons options for each base (because why not - the concept of taking two CADs with four of these with Battle Cannons is very amusing).

Thematically, I'm picturing them as easy drop units - maybe a drop vehicle of some kind swooping into a nattlefield and dropping them to form a beach-head for an extended assault.
As a result of this design, they'll probably have hooks on them somewhere for a drop ship to grab or deploy them.

First base comes together. A bit.

A little bit of adding to the outer shell so its not allo a flat surfacem and adding the first spike. There will likely only be two spikes opposite each other. I think I'd rather keep the other slots free so I can put a small LED lamp under each dome on whilst on the battlefield. Because, LEDs.

You can also see the top plate where the armaments will go. The metal washer on top will stay as is, and the armaments will all be magnetised so I can swap them out, and attach at the washer.

Further from here, I'll be adding the second spike to this one, then doing the other three.
I also plan to add some armour plates on the bottom of the dome similar in style to hull of a Raider.

Thsat would cover the basic design plan, but if I can find a source of small spikes (like those that come with the Raider, I may put a ring of them around the top of the dome.

FINALLY!

You'd think it would be easier being October, but after searching almost everywhere I finally found some small plastic skulls of the right size for my Vengeance Weapons Batteries.
And I found them in the unlikelly place of a SUpermarket, atop some bubble fluid.
