I have moved this discussion here from the Aphotic Gallery, to prevent us from clogging that up with text...

How did you do the colour transitions?
I was planning to make a transition from yellow green to dark blue on my Hekatrix or Archon, but am quite clueless on how i should do that.

@Marath

I'm glad you like the Troup Mastere. I don't know what's up with the Shadowseer - he shows fine on my PC and iphone. If the pic still won't work for you, click on the link in my sig to view him directly on my Flickr.

The colour transitions on the Troupe Master cloak (and Shadowseer base) were achieved over a white spray undercoat. I wet the surface with water, and then painted bands of the main colours I wanted (in this case, 7 rainbow colours). I used watered paint to make sure that nothing dried too quickly. After painting each band, I used a clean brush to blur it into its neighbour before painting the next band then blurring the next transition and so on...

Hope that answers your question.

I deleted the comments in the Aphotic Gallery section as there are no comments allowed, just pretty pictures in that section. I appreciate starting this thread to answer the questions without clogging the gallery.

Plastikente has it correct- It really is about paint consistency when you blend your colors. Thinning the paints is essential, as well as making sure that those paints keep that consistency ideally using a wet pallet. Rather than doing the band method described here, I prefer to blend the paints on my pallet as I layer the model, though this is probably a more difficult way of doing it.

Hope this helps!

@ESE: I have never used a wet palate. Are they worth it, and how do you do it?

Hey, we've all done it at some point!

Plastikente: This is pic of the cheap one that I built:
Colour Transitions IMG_20140111_205733607_HDR
The brown blob to the left is a watered down ink wash that has been there for a week. (I do snap the lid on when I'm not using it to prevent evaporation). The coins at the corners are only there to keep the parchment paper from rolling up. I keep just enough water in the sponge so that there is a tiny amount standing. The entire thing cost me about $7 USD for the plastic food storage container, sponge, and roll of parchment paper that will last you forever. I built my own just to try it out and never replaced it because it works so well (while looking pretty rough)

Hope this helps.

just as an aside, I find that if I lay down my parchment and moisten one side and then quickly flip it over it doesn't roll up on me. That being said an old collection of split-shot fishing weights come in handy too, they pinch the paper and take up less room. Surprised
