Would it be worth it to use reavers as secondary vehicle hunters by outfitting one or two of them (I only have 3 at the moment but plan to get 3 more) with a blaster/heat lance? If so would it be better to put a blaster on them (which I believe is safer) or the heat lance (which I believe is more powerful).

I can't speak for whether blasters or heat lances work out better mathematically or tactically but I would point out that if you spend the points on either make sure you use them for that purpose.

If for example you splashed on a heat lance or 2 and then bladevaned most of the battle you would have potentially wasted those points as being unable to fire them most turns.

I'm not sure I have explained that particularly well but I'm in a rush at works sorry!

i have to agree with Dragontree give them a job to do and stick with it.

personally iv had fair success running 6 with 2 HL's 1st turn used to get them into position to theaten side or rear armour in your second turn. and with some luck you'll get to ride through an enemy unit on the way there.

Reavers are too expensive to be specialist. I say yes - use them. If not for actual damage, then for threat of it. Force them to move.

Yea this is the main way I use my reavers. Turn one blast them across the board behind some tank and hopefully slice some domes on the way. Because I use them this way I take 6 with 2 blasters and if i have spare points some catrops and they do a great job.

In terms of Heatlance vs Blaster I haven't done the math but I usually take blasters because the higher strength and larger range. A larger range can potentailly help with kiting and staying out of LoS while still getting shots off. On top of that, getting a pen on armour 13 and 14 can be frustrating with a str6 melta weapon. While you always have at least a 50% chance to do something if you hit with a blaster.

I like 6 with 2 heat lances. I disagree about the lances being useless if you just blade vane. I mostly bladevane with them, but the lances allow me to kill vehicles if needed and give a threat to peoples tanks which can change how they play and make them move where you want them to.

I agree with giving them a job, but target priority is more important. Bladevanes are very effective at killing infantry. I hope that common sense is implied here but don't bother shooting at an empty trukk when you could run over a horde of boyz.

I suppose the thought running through my head wasn't that if you bladevane lances are useless, it was more don't kit them out to bladevane i.e. caltrops/talons AND give them lances/blasters. Otherwise its a big points sink for potentially doing neither nor.

Also agree with Expletive about target priority as a thread of common sense.
