So yeah, as the title says guys! Pretty certain my esteemed foe wont have any kind of vehicle beyond a drop pod (though I've a feeling he might have a dreadnought hidden somewhere...) since were both new re-starters of the game, so wondering peoples thoughts on this facing what will be a mostly terminator/grey hunter list lead by a character:

HQ= 308
Archon (Shadowfield,Agoniser,Soultrap,PGL,Drugs)
x4 Incubi
Venom (Splintercannon)

Troops= 350
x10 Warriors (Splintercannon, Blaster)
Raider

x10 Warriors (Splintercannon, Blaster)
Raider

Fast Attack= 230
x9 Reavers (x1Heatlance, x1Cluster Caltrops)

Heavy Support= 115
Ravager(Disintegrator Cannons, Nightshields)

Grand total of 1003 but I'm sure he'll let me off.

Left some DLances/Heat lances etc in case said Dreadnought shows up and to blow up the pod...with the general plan being to shoot the living daylights out of him, have the reavers (perhaps coming on from reserve) come in and punish squads, and then send in the archon/incubi when things are nice and soft.

My thoughts are maybe I could cheapen the rather point sinky Archon build into a more hang back and shoot one...my problem there being I'm limited to HQ bodyguards either being Incubi or Wyches/Bloodbrides due to model constraints(only the 20 warriors atm so no trueborn)...alternatively I could run Duke Sliscus with one of the warrior squads and drop the Archon, Incubi and a pair of reavers and chuck in my razorwing with a couple of Disintergrator cannons for more infantry soup, as well as maybe splinter racks on the raiders with the extra points, but it leaves me with little to no assault options so I thought this may be best on balance.

Thoughts, from those out there with more experience? Smile

If you're looking to cheapen the Archon a Venom Blade is a nice value item. It saves you 15 points off the Agoniser, letting you grab an upgrade on something else instead?

I don't really understand why the Archon with a power weapon that always wounds on a 4+ needs a Soul Trap (unless the Agoniser has some cool caveat that says always wounds on a 4+ unless a better roll would do it, in which case that makes the Agoniser way cooler).

I would also streamline the Reavers with either Heatlances or nasty bladevaning stuff. With 9 you can do plenty o hurt with regular bladevanes (when you need to bladevane) and still be decked out with triple heat lance to pop termies or vehicles.

yeah youre right actually, soul trap was kinda a relic from my initial build which had the huskblade...but I kinda realised the agoniser might work out better against the toughness of the wolfboys and the Archons wimpy str, plus the fact he's gonna have one IC max. I can save some points there & maybe drop the caltrops too for triple heat lance; he might not have any tanks but meltas can be pointed at other things too!

I was thinking about a venom blade actually for a cheapo version...2+wound is always nice but if I can afford it 4+ wound and AP3 might serve me better with some (hopefully) amour ignoring wounds.

Cheers for the input guys.

I would rock the Venom Blade...just win through sheer weight of attacks and 2+ Inv. Dropping the Agoniser and the Caltrops definitely = two more Heat Lances and helps keep you below the 1K cap (it'll suck when you beat him and he rags on you for being 3pts above the limit  Razz )

3 Heat Lances on the Reavers will be better than Caltrops IMO. If your adversary is taking Terminators then Heat Lances kill them pretty well. Caltrops are iffy, since 9 Bladevanes will do plenty enough damage to splatter a lot of infantry anyway.
