PostSubject: 1250 for begginer   1250 for begginer I_icon_minitimeThu Jul 28 2011, 03:34

Finally decided to try a radical change from Orks and foot IG, and thought DE (with their gorgeous new models) would be a great choice. Most games at the FLGS throughout the week are 1250 so that makes a good limit for a list to buy towards; and I plan to gradually increase it to a "weekend" size of 2k. What ever I settle on for this will be used as a shopping list for initial purchases. I set this up using basically just 2 battle forces and 2 Ravagers.

Succubus+Agonizer+HW Grenades= 90
10x Warriors+DL+Blaster+Syb= 140
10x Warriors+SC+Blaster+Syb w/ Raider+FF= 195
9x Wyches+Imp/net+Hekatrix+Agonizer w/ Raider+FF= 206
9x Wyches+Imp/net+Hekatrix+Agonizer w/ Raider+FF= 206
6x Reavers+2xCaltrops+Champ= 182
Ravager+FF= 115
Ravager+FF= 115
1249

Most of the guys I play with use "casual" lists through the week, but they know how to use their armies, so while it doesnt need to be super competitive, I'd like to have a chance.

I like your list, strong CC potential and a solid amount of lances for 1250 points.

I think you are selling yourself short though, as I'm about 90% sure a squad of 8 wyches and 1 hekatrix (for 9 total models) with agoniser, Net/Imp, and FF Raider is 200 points, not 206.

Couple quick thoughts for you :

-I personally would drop the Sybarites in the Warrior squads since your wyches are your heavy hitters and he's not bring much to the table besides that leadership bonus and extra attack.

-Maybe consider switching out the Succubus for two haemoncului (sp?), and with the points from removing the sybarites, you could give each a liquifier gun. Put these guys in with your wyches so they start with FnP (combined with their dodge, they are amazing in CC, and if you get lucky on your drug roll, they could have furious charge as well!). The liquifier has potential to melt almost anything (bring your unlucky dice so you roll low on the AP)

-Flickerfields on the wyches raider are good, but consider that you want that transport to dump them off asap, IE you will most likely be moving flat out and benefiting from a 4+ Cover save. Food for thought

-My next thought is based largely on how you want to use them, but consider this in regards to your reavers. Caltrops, while awesome, are very expensive, for 40 points you could almost get two more reavers. I use my reavers as transport hunters, utilizing their melta weapons, amazing speed (and cover save), and their nifty ability to move 6" in the asault phase. Zip them into position, blow up a transport with your heat lances, dive right back into cover. Two heat lances would save you 16 points over two caltrops as well.

-Finally, your warrior squad on foot is sure to be used to guard a home objective, but consider that a warrior squad, with a blaster and mounted in a venom with the splinter cannon upgrade is 125 points compared to 140. Sure you lose a Dark Lance and 5 warriors, but you gain a paper plane, 12 splinter cannon shots, and some mobility for an otherwise footslogging troop. Another idea along the same path, is if you remove the flickerfield from the wyches raiders, you could keep the squad of ten footsloggers, add a raider for em and they retain the blaster, gain a splinter cannon, and still have a dark lance that can target a separate unit (thanks to being mounted on the transport).

In Summary, Something More akin to:
Haemonculus with Liquifer x2 - 120
Warriors x10 Blaster + Splinter Cannon + Raider -175
Warriors x10 Blaster + Splinter Cannon + Raider with FF - 185
Wyches x9 + Hekatrix + Agoniser + Net/Imp+ Raider - 190
Wyches x9 + Hekatrix + Agoniser + Net/Imp + Raider -190
Reavers x6 +2 Heat Lance - 156
Ravagers x2 with FF - 230

Looks like 1246 points here with those changes, without having to get too much more for your army (I'd convert two haemy from the wych squad).

Again, this is largely based on how you want to use your reavers!

Thanks very much for the advice! While I do have a friends codex handy, I've been building list through Army Builder and using the totals off there; I went back through the book and came up with the same total.
I completely missed the fact that Reavers are eldar jetbikes and get the free 6" move, making them a bit more viable to slow down and shoot. Using your info, and going over more closely the kind of lists I see at this points level, I've made a few changes to your recommendation:

Haemonculus with Liquifer x2 - 120
Warriors x5 Blaster + Venom 2xSC - 125
Warriors x10 Blaster + Splinter Cannon + Raider - 175
Wyches x9 + Hekatrix + Agoniser + Net/Imp+ Raider - 196
Wyches x9 + Hekatrix + Agoniser + Net/Imp + Raider -196
Reavers x6 +2 Heat Lance - 156
Ravagers with FF - 115
Razorwing 2x Disintegrators + SC + FF - 165
1248

Playing this level in our group, you rarely see av13+, so I toned back a bit of the AT. I really just swapped to the Razorwing as I love the model, though it looks to have a nice bit of anti-infantry power. The major downside with this list is it's a fair bit more costly, meaning that much longer before I actually get to play, but it looks like it'll play well.
When I get a chance, I'll put up a hybrid of the lists to start out with, and gradually shift it over to the new one (again, working off 2 BFs, and 2-3 vehicles)
