Ads are obnoxious

I know this will depend on the success of the forum, but will there be a way to get rid of the ads?

On most forums I know it cost to do so. So it might be possible in the future but for now they will ahve ot stay, no matter how much they detract from the overall feel.

Maybe we can move them to the bottom. Sky will have to take a look, I don't have access to that.

I dont mind them too much. They are a simple banner at the top which is easy to ignore and scroll past.

As long as they aren't popups or other annoying things - I'm ok with it. Anything to help support a forum.

You can pay to remove ads, with "Credits", which can also be used to purchase various improvements to a forum. e.g. increased storage space, custom domain name etc.

The is also a way for us as members to donate to the forum. > Forum Donations
Payments can be made via telephone, SMS, Credit Card, Paypal etc.

I’ve contributed £1.50 today, as I don’t get paid until next Thursday but it’s a start.

Let’s make this the best forum around!

Edit: This post/information might be better being rewritten properly and posted in a “sticky” topic of its own so people can access the information readily.

Edit 2: If you are using Firefox or Chrome as your web browser with the "Add Block Plus" extension then you shouldn't see any advertisements. (I’m using the latest version of Firefox without said add-on and it doesn’t show them anyway.)

I'm a DCM on Dakka and I really like how it works. As a DCM you get no-ads browsing. You get your own email address if you want one. You get access to two DCM only forums, a trade forum and a general forum. The forum rules are a lot more lenient on the DCM general forum. Basically the only rule is avoid the -isms (racism, sexism, etc).

The ads came back as the month had run out. We are now ad free for 6 months.

Yup.

Install and if it doesn't already block the ad that bothers you, you can tell it to do so.

You can also manually block any element of a webpage by getting it to open "blockable items".

I haven't seen any ads anywhere for over a year.

Nah, I'm fine with ads. It makes me warm inside there are literally thousands of people worldwide concerned about size of my private parts. Best thing is they offer me free help! Isn't that nice of them?
