Hi Archons, Succubi, and Haemis.
I had a couple of games in the 7th ed environment. Although the vehicles definitely became safer from the explosion in this edition, I feel the cannonborn squad (2SC trueborns, 1SR trueborn, and a venom with 2SC) are still fragile owing to 2HP of the venom. To make matters worse, the squad has the higher risk of pinning as modified in the 7th ed. (That's why some of us started to use the grisly trophies)
I agree with the opinion that a raider is superior to a venom now, but we still need venoms for our trueborns. So I'm considering utilizing the aegis line to solve out this problem. I haven't tried it yet, but will do in near future - maybe this weekend?
The strategy is simple. Turn 1, the cannonborn squads disembark and stand behind the aegis line. Their venoms then freely move, shoot, and occupy objectives if needed. The squads can get 4+ cover save, even 3+ (by nightfighting) or 2+ (by invisibility from the allied psykers) maintaining their full BS. In addition, they can hit most of the enemies with the long range of SC.
The disadvantage would be the big penalty from the blasts and templates.
Any thought?
