| This is a textbook Walter Mitty fantasy. Let's say a really generous benefactor agrees to pay you up to 1000 dollars for starting a new 40k army. You can have any combination of allies, and any hobby supplies you might need to buy (i.e. glue, paint) can be tacked on to your $1000 budget. You may of course exceed this budget or go below it, the point is you are no longer worried about the money. What army would you like to have besides Dark Eldar? Why would you start that army? | |

| Sisters of Battle.
Because they're my favorite GW army. Period.
The only reason I don't play them is they get expensive. Although I could get a decent force with $1000

| A very fancy imperial guard list with lots of shiny bits. But the regiment will be pure infantry (and sentinels), no tanks, no aircraft just a horde of ordinanry men with nothing but their lasguns and their faith in the emperor. Sadly I could never do this because I neither have the time nor the money If I did have the money and the time, I would play them for the rest of my life and be a die-hard IG fan. | |

| Must confess I've always fancied an Imperial Guard army too. Mix of infantry and tanks for me though. Only problem is that I don't have the patience to paint them all up! | |

| Yes, I have attempted guard before but I always break under the task of painting all those models.

| I've always thought it would be enjoyable to play guard. (Granted I prefer Mech-Heavy lists with them) | |

| Shame theres so many guard players in my area. It wouldn't be very fun to constantly play Guard v Guard. | |

| Unless you could also give me 1000 extra hours in which to paint them, I'd thank you for the gesture and ask you to choose someone else. I already have more miniatures to paint than time to paint them. But I'm going to say Chaos Demonds. They're freaky! | |

| Great topic! I'd go for Space Marines Colours of Raven Guard, Iron Hands and Salamanders (Payback-ish) Supported by Arbiters (S.W.A.T. Astras) ...or just more Dark Eldar | |

| I would spend the whole thing on the pieces for my current project - Legion of the Damned! (I've fallen in love with their army rules.....) | |

| I'd finally get some marines. I always used to say it'd be Imperial Fists if I collected Space Marines, but actually it'd be Salamanders. Fists just sit there. A properly themed list, with loads of flamers and meltas, lava bases, etc etc. | |

Fists take care of the business - this is the Chapter that spawned the Crimson Fists and the Black Templars too, y'know. Though I will admit the current fluff frustrates me greatly with how they're being portrayed.

| Did salamanders ever get their own chapter tactics? I can't recall seeing them in their codex. | |

| Basically they get to re-roll their saves versus flamers and re-roll failed wounds (and AP rolls) caused by their flamers. Also all their characters get a free masterwork upgrade to a weapon. | |

| That's not bad I guess. Sounds like you have to play a flame-based army though. | |

| Well...if you want to play Salamanders you're already kind of buying into that idea. it's sort of their thing. | |

| Yeah... my friend was going to play them. Although he has Blood Angels (which he's getting sick of) and doesn't want to waste time repainting them. | |

| I re-painted my first army (generic Marines) into Blood Angels. Now I re-painted again to have an all-Deathcompany army led by Astorath the Grim and Mephiston. Blood Angels can take hand flamers and hand meltas so they can get the +1 attack bonus if he wants to take more fire-y goodness. | |

Ironic. this IS how my Dark Eldar army came to be. Friend came back from Kuwait, told me to make my dream list and he bought it. Bout $1500 later I was done. Good times. What would I build now? Orks for sure. Its as army I don't own, and it has great low point tools to work with that unfortunately cost a lot of money. I'd buy it because everyone wins when you play orks, win or lose. Too much fun. They go down in handfuls and they come up jusst as fast. There's a ton of conversions of those who like that, they're characterful, they actually are very competitive if you're playing them as the horde they truly are meant to be and they have some of the most bone crushing collisions when they hit. It's fun to play them, fun to play against them.
