| How do you handle measurments and flying bases on Reavers? The answer is really easy for Raiders and Venoms when it comes to measuring range, distance etc due to the vehicle rules for measuring from the hull/weapon but I can't find this clearly stated in the rulebook for bikes.
Do you measure coherency and weapon range from the hull of the bike or from the transparent flying base underneath the bike? I've been measuring from the hull as the base under the bike is fiddly in the middle of a large pack.
I ask as I had a game where an inch pretty much determined coherency and melta range.

| Reavers are jetbikes. Jetbikes are not vehciles and do not use vehicle rules. Therefore, jetbikes have no 'hull' to speak of.
Per the rulebook, coherency, distance to objectives, assaults, shooting, being hit by blasts/templates all count the base as part of the model.
You should use the base *and* the model for all questions. It is one and the same.

He has correctly pointed out that Reavers are not vehicles but then goes on to say you use the base *and* the model. According to the rules for measuring distances, that is incorrect. It is *only* the base that matters. - Quote :
- Distances between models and all other objects (which can be other models, terrain
features and so on) are always measured from the closest point on one base to the closest point on the other base. Distances between units are always measured to and from the bases of the closest models in each of the units

| Just don't let your friend that plays space marines figure out how much of an advantage that is over his bikes with the bike bases. | |

Not too much if you play it smart as you can spread out better. As the facing itself does not matter you can move "sideways" and as the bike base is ~ 3" long a 5" Blast will only hit one bike.

| Wouldn't a Reaver be about the size of a bike base anyway instead of a small round bit under the model?
I'll play it by base instead of bike then looking at that part of the rulebook. Doesn't seem to mention it anywhere else. Thanks.

| I don't think this will count as 'threadnomancy' as it hasn't been over a month yet, but if it is I do apologize.
I do wish to ask on the subject of reaver measuring if we use the base for all things measuring, then does that mean Reavers must fight in close combat either sideways or with their bikes on peoples heads?
Additionally in the BrB it states on pg.14 "For one model to have line of sight to another, you must be able to trace a straight, unblocked line from it's body (the head, torso, arms or legs) to any part of the targets body." Does this mean that units such as bikes both fire from the rider, and bikers only need to hide a rider to block LoS since a bike is not a head, torso, arm or leg?

There is a reason my answer included 'the model' as part of the information. As far as non-vehicle models go; For distance you measure to bases. For blasts you pay attention to bases. For assaults - again, bases (so, yes, sideways or with a grin and a nod of knowing to your opponent) For LOS - model. For cover saves - again, model. You may feel free to argue that the body of the bike does not count for LOS, RAW you might have a leg to stand on - but then we get into the 'eyes' thing with Wraithguard again and I choose not to bother with that.
