The Monthly Vow, January 2015 - Can you Do This?

@Evil Space Elves I had a neat 1750 force with lots of converted stuff, that combined with my 6000 pts of unfinished other armies has put me off starting another Dark Eldar army for some time. However if the new Harlequins are true I may well make a tiny elite force in the dark eldar style with my bits box as my point eared evil fix.

Also I am looking forward to seeing your castigator finished, though I'm sure it will make me very jealous!

@Marrath I remembered someone saying they had done something similar but couldn't quite remember who. I'm glad you got back straight in! But think my Blood Angels in particular will hold me back.

Otherwise who will accompany this fella, the new addition to my collection and add on to this weeks vow in place of my lost blasterborn:(






He is stood atop the remains of an unfinished dais of destruction I had made that was never finished as Vect got disappeared and then in a weird self harming sadness rage I decided to have my new toy crush my lost ones because of the heart ache they have caused me.

I'm sure if I pick up some Harlequins the bug will swiftly return... I hope...

Your Castigator does look terrific, Dragontree, but nothing will ever replace that DE army. I love how you posed him crushing a Raider, I totally get that!

I've only played on game with my Acheronbut I can say it was BRUTAL. I mean, it was "I kinda feel bad for bringing it" brutal.

I think the addition of the second gun over the chain blade really increases its utility.

Plus who doen't want a roast marines giant flamer!?

I'm actually on target this month. Exarch and Hornet 1 done. Hornet 2 basecoated and just needs edge highlighting and gems painting.

Of course, I've now jinxed myself and with a baby due in 3 weeks that's not clever!

Congratulations! Is it your first? My daughter teleported in almost two years ago now (all of 5 months after I found a games club and started playing regularly - thankfully my wife is still happy to get rid of me one night a week!).

Thank you. This is the 2nd. Our son is nearly 3 now and was trying to grab my freshly painted Exarch the other day. Time to move them onto higher shelves!!

I seem to recall newborn as being perfect painting time, I paint in our spare bedroom so put the baby on the bed for their nap and spend some quality time watching over them while progressing with my painting.

I now gain brownie points for encouraging the wife to go and socialise with her friends while I look after our daughter, who goes to bed at seven.

That left me with a dilemma though - I can plough on withy the vow and get the gold basecoat done on the storm raven or I can try and get a head start on February's list.

I got the purple itch (no, it's not an STI!) so I basecoated my first ravager last night, and I'm looking to do the same with my scourges tonight.

I also burned a little incense in a funeral pyre for the blasterborn I was supposed to paint and are no longer. Weep.

Vow complete with 3 days to spare! I've started work on repainting my Fire Dragon squad to match the Exarch but probably won't get those done by the end of the month.

Thank you kind sir! The creamy colour is simply a white basecoat followed by lots and lots of layers of thinned down Vallejo Ivory, shaded in the recesses only with one of the Army Painter Quickshade inks. Sadly I can't remember which one at the moment but I'll look tonight.

I do have an Avatar, the old metal one, but he was painted about 20 years ago in a different scheme. I may get round to repainting him in that way at some point but I don't use him in my lists so he's fairly low priority.

Just noticed that Acheron can't be fielded solo in 40k. There needs to be at least similar amount of other knight in the army.

I was thinking about this.

I think the RAI are to make you field normal knights but I think RAW

'you may not have more Cerastus Knight-Acheron in your army than you have Knights of other kinds'

So you could field it with a castigator and fulfill that requirement for both of them!

This has been kicked around a bit due to the funky wording, but the "you may not have more Cerastus Knight-Acherons in your army than you have Knights of other kinds." portion of the rule only applies for taking them in Imperial Knight armies.
For using them with other Imperial armies it states:

"Other Armies of the Imperium Factions: A Cerastus Knight-Acheron may be taken as a Lords of War choice for any faction that is a part of the Armies of the Imperium (see the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook)."

@Count Adhemar - that Firedragon is awesome!  Must have taken a lot of patience with the edge highlights.

I'm not going to manage the Wrack conversions this month, so I'll have to roll them over to the next vow
