My first Mandrake I've painted and am curious what you guys think:

Mandrake; 1st test model WP_20170930_20_54_54_Rich

Shall I continue and paint the rest the same?

Gorgeous. The only thing i'd suggest is extra-inking on the air. They look a bit thick, maybe some Drakenhof Nightshade would help them look a bit more deep.

Thanks. And thanks for the feedback. Let's see what I can do about that. Smile

Maybe adding a subtle OSL beneath the flaming arm.
Mandrakes are perfect models to train for this technique and it looks great on the table.

And maybe try to make the skin a little blacker (maybe using lahmia as selective matt varnish ? Do a test on something else)

Aside that (optionnal) the miniature looks absolutely gorgeous, really good work.

Love it, very Oni looking and unique with the blue hair. I agree a little bit more black on the arm carrying the sword getting brighter towards the baleflame would just make this model leap to the next level Smile

@masamune, lord nakariial: Thanks for the feedback! Haven't thought of OSL, that would indeed be next level for me. Do you guys happen to have a good tutorial (else I'll search myself ofcourse)? And I agree with the skin to darken it (its drybrushed with light grey, but i think edge highlighting is better). Thanks again!

As always I recommend Chest of colors tuts

http://chestofcolors.com/tag/osl/
(care, there's no excerpt, all content following with a massive vertical content. I'll recommand the "c'mon baby light my fire" tut

Did mine a while ago (was my 1st OSL, in hindsight it lacks subtility) a look like this
Mandrake; 1st test model Dsc_0558
Mandrake; 1st test model Dsc_0559

Take some time but it's not that hard with lahmia & patience

Standard materials (color 1/5 & lahmia 4/5) make successive layers and you're good to go
Metals & reflectives : prefer inks
