@Gobs, It really depends on the detail level. This guy took me about 6-8hrs spread out over 3 days. But he's got a lot of detail.

Thanks Guys! Here's my newest addition.

Librarians were banned during the latter part of the Heresy due to the Council of Nikaea. The Emperor invited the advocates of both sides to attend the conclave on the newly-terraformed planet of Nikaea, to determine whether human psychic powers and the practice of psychic sorcery presented a danger to the newborn Imperium of Man. The Emperor eventually ordered all of the Space Marine Legions to disband their Librariums and for Astartes Librarians to return to service as line warriors and never use their psychic abilities again.

After the outbreak of the Horus Heresy, I assume that any Son’s of Horus Psykers in the rank officers would be allowed to freely explore their powers and eventually would become the first Chaos Space Marine Sorcerers.

Very, very cool. Love the cables you've added. What are they from?

I really dig the Centurian head. My word that Praetor model is beautiful; before and after your work!

Sons of Horus Reaver Assault Squad Finished

These might be the most realistic figures I’ve pained to date. This is the standard with which all my Sons of Horus army will be painted and there is so much more to come in the near future.

This is amazing work. Hands down the best I've seen!

Oh my, your Sons of Horus look absolutely menacing! The assault squad is extremely well done, and the flame jets coming out of the thrusters really sell the otherwise rather odd "running" pose. Also, those bases are just phenomenal - how do you achieve such great lava effect?

Here's 2 new units for my ever-growing Sons of Horus Army.

Some of you might remember I posted a Command Squad up a few weeks ago.

Well after sitting on him for a while and taking in helpful comments from the blog-o-sphere I decided to revamp certain details on him.

I removed any Aquila stylings and replaced with SOH details. Mainly the left shoulder pad and the cheastplate and I swapped the banner for a substantially smaller one.
















Sons of Horus Tactical Support Squad with Rotor Cannons

I added some Ork viewfinders on the cannons for a more retro look and used assorted CSM, Ork and Maxmini bits to enhance the figures.

Looking awesome, love the heavy weapon dudes.

Here’s a lovely project I’ve been working on in conjunction with my current commissions.

This Forge World Kit is a beauty albeit, a bit troublesome to put together in a few areas. Nothing some persistence and putty can’t fix.

I went a bit nuts on the brass etched SOH insignia and had to shave off imperial aquilas all over the place on here. The rotating mechanism on the turrets is magnetized and the from banner area is a nice custom addition. The main pilot is a conversion from several misc. Heresy-era bits I had laying around.

The base is modified from a Dark Arts Miniature Lava flying base. For all my SOH I’m going for a “Pompeii” type theme; a once great city laid low by orbital bombardment. Now that city is a bunch of Slag with SOH forces coming in to finish off the job. A couple random statue heads or remnants of pillars floating in the magma.

My intention is to paint this with a "Meaner" looking version of the SOH army colors. A bit grittier, a bit more banged up with Cythonian and chaos glyphs on it. The engines will have a Blue OSL and the consoles on the gunners and pilot will also have a Blue OSL effect.

First round of paint on.

Let me tell you this SOH Greenish color is the most troublesome color I’ve ever dealt with. One step to far on the Green and it’s like a Salamanders color. One Step too far on the blue and it’s Space Wolves.

The base is grey primer, then Privateer Press Trollblood base with a 15% Yellow added to green it up. Then the same color with a bit of black added to shade it in the recesses. Then it was followed by a thinned layer of Vallejo Translucent Green. Finally a light coat of the Trollblood base color was sprayed followed by a final highlight spray of Trollblood base color mixed with light grey. After the base color was established I started spraying the black areas and extreme weathering.

What you see here is about 50% painted. There will be tons of detail painting, more weathering, and an oil wash before the final hull color is achieved.

Here's a new small addition

Maloghurst The Twisted has always been a fan fav character for me since the original Horus Heresy Art Books came out. He was Horus’ equerry, basically an evil Malcador type character. Here’s his Wiki page: http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Maloghurst

In the Dan Abnett he is described as having a broken bent spine deformed by a crash landing, which prevents him from wearing power armor. However, in all the art books and in the Forgeworld Rules he’s in power armor standing upright. My only assumption is that he got more spine surgeries as the heresy went on.

I like the Maloghurst model.

I like the lava bases you have done there. My 30K Salamanders could do with a few tips for that effect if you would divulge! I tried to get mine to look more like Ash with runny lava percolating through but I cant get the same vibrancy as you have there. Any tips?
