Last time I played the same opponent I tabeled him by Round 4. He ran much more mec than normal using killacan, defcopta, and bikes. I'm not sure what to expect this time around so I'm taking a balanced approach. I somewhat expect him to deploy on his edge to avoid 1st round assault. Last time I devastated his Lootas because of his deployment and that ruined his whole game plan. If he does run a horde army he will have no choice but to come to me so I honestly don't know what to expect.

This is my first list posted on this forum and the 5th game I've ever played in my life. Smile I put some of my own comments under different units to explain my thinking when assembling the list. Have at it!

HQ: 300 PTS

2x Scissorhands

Troops: 515 PTS
Start w/ Haemonculus
7x Wyches 190 PTS
1x Razorflails
1x Hekatrix

I know that the Haemonculus doesn't have fleet so he can't run/assault in the same turn but once engaged in CC will allow me to attack first on the ensuing turn (provided he lasts that long). I want the wyches to have the Haemonculus pain token and if I can get a 6 on my drug roll the wych squads start out with FNP and Furious Charge, which would be, wait for it...... AWESOME! I figure that against a horde army the liquefier and scissor hands will dish out some nice damage.

Use the Duke for "Contraband" and take the best one for my Wych Squads. Also, put him with the Trueborn squad for "The Serpents Venom" giving them all poison 3+. I like the idea of having a 36" range that can fire 12 3+ Poison Shots and 12 4+ Poison Shots against what I anticipate to be a horde army. I've thought about changing the shredders to blasters and removing the night shields from the venoms to get the extra points. The only nice thing about the night shields is I can soften up his horde from a distance without worrying about his Lootas by decreased their effective range by 6".

Standard issue. Gotta have some AT because I know he's going to field Killacans and other vehicles.

I play Haemy with my wyches but i always leave him inside the transport and then they take paintoke with them so then you can fleet and can gamble some on charges.

Okay, full on tourney thoughts - here goes;

Meh, meh, meh. Th eDuke has some powers, and he has some angles that are very good to use in competitive play, but you're mincing around with them, not taking full advantage of them, and basically paying out a lot of points for a weaker assault Archon that you aren't even using.

5 Warriors - Blaster - Venom - extra S.Cannon
I pretty much guarantee you that mathhammer will give you more dead Orcs via the extra Venom than by the Duke's boost to that one Dakkaborn squad - plus you get an extra objective grabber, plus you get extra anti-tank, plus you're still saving 25 points.

No brianer, methinks.

These aren't bad, and vs. Orcs the Scissorhands will saw some nice meaty holes in enemy squads. Just remember to base the PK Nob with Wyches and have the Haem slam into regular Boyz. Also, remember that if the distance looks too far to leave the Haem behind so the Wyches can fleet.

Razorflails? Eh...
Look, Razorflails and Hydra Gauntlets are great - but they cost the same as a regular Wych, and unless you get Hydra Gauntlets and roll really well, basically another Wych is superior in every way imaginable. More wounds, more attacks, less issues with morale, ect. ect.

Oh, hey, look, you have room in your Raider for another Wych. I'd drop the flails and get the Wych.

I like this. I think you have too few Troop choices though. Note my above comments at Duke Sliscus.

For the points here, plus the Duke you could almost afford 3x 5 Warriors in Venoms w. Blasters - think about that as a comparison of use.
If you drop the Duke than this unit should probably be re-worked.
If you don't drop the Duke I think I'd really consider why you're putting him in a unit with only 2 Splinter Weapons.

Overall the army is geared a touch too heavy on the anti-horde side for my money, though that might just be fear of horde orks on your part. I gave you some advice that would increase your anti-mech power (good vs. Kans, Bikes, Trukks, and Battlewagons) and *also* increases your anti-infantry.

You could also trim your anti-infantry a bit and have a pretty solid TAC list here as well.
Overall not a shabby list, but you have my thoughts,

Thanks, I appreciate the suggestions and got rid of The Duke and the unit he was with. You make a valid point on the cost of the Duke plus the unit equating to 3x Kabalite Warriors in Venom squads. Unfortunately I only have 3 venoms but hopefully that will be something I'll remedy in the near future.

Just a quick thought, as I have not really digested your whole list....

Against Orcs I would go Razorwings x 3 all day long vs those Ravagers in almost every situation but especially when planning for an either or scenerio (foot vs buggy)

12 x Str 6, Pie Plates of Doom makes horde cry, not to mention they can rip up his AV10 transports just as easily (if he goes more mech)

6 x DLs is still enough to deal with his heavier vehicles (IMHO)

then just to add salt

3 x SC to kill more greenskins.

I would run them 2xDL, 4xMono, 1xSC and a Flickerfield and/or possibly a Nightshield vs orky tech.
