| I started collecting DE when the 5th Ed codex came out. Prior to that I was running 3rd Ed Necrons... I like a challenge and when the 5th ed necron book came out, it was a bit too easy.
Anyway, I currently have around 4700 points of DE or so. As I bought each set of models I would try a slightly totally different paint scheme. I'm not sure there's a model in this army that I'd call done. So, having just finished painting a 2k AM army I decided it's time to put my Kabal back on the work bench and figure out how to "fix" it.
My Kabal is currently (updated June 2018) - About 5100 points: HQ 2 Archons - one is a Vect conversion. Lelith Succubus Urien Haemonculus Drazar (not pictured)
Troop 45 Warriors 35 Wyches
Elite 10 Incubi 5 Mandrakes 5 Wracks 5 Grotesques (conversions)
Fast Attack 15 Hellions 15 Scourges 18 Reavers 2 Razorwings
Heavy Cronos Talos 3 Ravagers 1 Voidraven 1 Tantalus 2 Reapers
Transport 4 Raiders 3 Venoms
So far all I have are a few pretty lousy pictures. My hope is that by even posting those it will encourage me to take a few decent shots and then figure out which direction I'm going.

| Wow that's a pretty eclectic looking collection!
I think the 'burnt' orange look is a good one though, unusual but very cool.

| Yea, I've had more than a few people ask me if I bought them already painted from ebay...
Part of it is that after painting a squad or two I get tired of applying the same paint and want to do something else. To combat this I've decided to just work on a different army for a bit.
The downside is that after I've taken a break, I can't remember *exactly* what it is I did before and I'm not exactly the best at "reverse engineering" a paint scheme. Hence another part of the reason for this log - I intend to actually write that down going forward.
That said, the "burnt orange" look on the scourges (which is different from how I did the archon) was accomplished by:
1) Primer: White 2) Base: Jokaero Orange 3) Armor Shade: Fuegan Orange
Helmet: 1) Base: Incubi Darkness 2) Layer: Kabalite Green 3) Eyes - Moot Green
Wings: 1) Base: Rhinox Hide 2) Layer: Skrag Brown 3) Layer: Deathclaw Brown 4) Shade: Agrax Earthshade

This is precisely my philosophy - and why I've got 5 armies scrapping for attention (well, soon to be 4). Last year I dedicated almost all of my painting time to my marines, this year for at least 6 months it's going to be dark eldar, then either blood angels or eldar in the second half, whichever grabs me the most. It's also why I've got purple, red, green and blue colour schemes on the go - so I don't end up doing the same old stuff over and over. - clively wrote:

Very important! I have a spreadsheet - what can I say, I'm a geek!

| That's a good-sized raiding force, Clively! Definitely two thumbs-up I sort of did the same with my 'Nids, each squad is a different base colour and then within each squad, I further vary the shades and highlights. there is nowhere near as much variation across the board as with your DE, but at least I could take an extended break from the little buggers and then not worry about exactly matching everything again when I re-started. | |

| To be honest, I really enjoyed the look of the whole army shot, with all the differently coloured vehicles. It looks as though yours is a renegade force that's drawn a lot of like-minded individuals from around the webway. But I guess unless you were playing the entire force (and I'd love to see that!) it might look a little haphazard with only a few parts. You wouldn't get the fully anarchic feeling. Still - don't worry too much about making everyone look the same. Doesn't have to be that way! | |

| Haemi and a Vect conversion. Until further notice Vect has been downgraded to being just a simple archon. He was NOT happy about that news and will seek his revenge. | |

| Very nice Vect conversion. Is it based on that pic from the Codex with the Archon sucking out someone's soul? Definitely reminds me of it. | |

| @Plastikente: Yes it is. I tried to make sure it had all the wargear mentioned in his profile. The head, arms and the spear are from the Dire Avengers kit. I added a couple spikes to the spear. The pieces coming off his back are from a Venom. The model itself is the finecast Archon and the base is from http://www.dragonforge.com/- (great bases). I thought about having a third piece come up the back, but then it wouldn't have fit into the foam I have. | |

| I'm finally getting back to painting my DE. Also.. I'm learning a bit about airbrushing. This bomber has been sitting primed for a few years, guess it was about time. Hopefully I'll finish this up by the end of the week. The canopies are going to be painted black and the control surfaces are probably going to be dark brown with tribal tattoos in white on them. | |

| Man that's a lot of work. A colourful army to say the least. Looks kind of very individuallistic with all those combinations. Keep it up. | |

| Thank you. I’ve caught up on almost all the painting. The last ones to finish up are the tantalus and reapers. I think I’m going to paint them similar to the bomber. I really like how that has turned out. | |

| Today my army is going through a rebirth. All of the vehicles are being repainted. Gone is the haphazard bunch of rabble rousers. In their place is a new unity of purpose. The archon will likely rename the kabal. I'm leaning towards Sun Dragons but I'm not tied to it yet. | |
