| Hey guys Need some advice on my painting so far. I am not sure about it and it is taking a long time, so before I spent more time on this theme, I would ask you to criticize the work so far. Should I: 1. Keep the theme 2. Choose a more original theme and use my airbrush more to get the painting done fast, with less details 3. Go play Eldar Thanks! | |

| 1. Dude lovin the paint keep it up man. That is a great army. I vote here. [X]
2. What do you play warhammer 40k for?
- Do you play just to win, do you play games only to win and that is what you get enjoyment out of.
- Do you really love 40k and saw DE and was like WoW I love the theme.
- Do you love the hobby aspect and saw Dark Eldar and was like hey those are beautiful models.
- Are you looking for a challenge and love having a feeling of accomplishment in the hobby aspect and the gameplay aspect.
I'm sure you already know the answer to this question so if you can narrow it down then it should answer it for you.
I have been making models and playing games ever since I was a little kid. I love building models, I love the 40k universe, and I get a huge satisfaction at playing the class/army/build that is considered a high skill cap (this goes to any game I play) And I also love Sex Drugs and Rock and Roll so I was literally born into Dark Eldar. (Hail Slaanesh)
I will just say this Eldar play themselves. If you are a competent player you will go far with Eldar, will it make you a better player? Maybe. Will Dark Eldar make you a better player? Yes.

| Thanks for the replies! I will keep the theme and work on getting my army painted and ready for battle! Its_Rumble, you are right, why do I play wh40k and why play DE? To collect and play DE you truly have to be a masochist (no comment) , I have collected my DE since we got new figures, absolutely love our figures and they are the best looking by far (I think ). I havent been playing that much, not as much as I would like, there are several reasons for it, none of them really good.. Now I would like to get my army painted and start playing more and do some tournaments (I know, will lose 75% of the games on a good day..). I hate painting opentopped vehicles, so many details and extra stuff on them, not like a rhino, on the other hand I love the models! Even harlequins are now copying us Its no fun to lose all the time (one of the reasons I havent been playing much, many Eldar players in the area) and even got some Eldar allies now, even though I hate using them. I would rather have more Coven units, love the pain engines... | |

| There are quite a few ways to get a competitive list now with the inclusion of Coven supp we have many a way to bring a great anvil to our hammer. I can think of 4 lists I've played and been successful with including the formations. Corpsethief Claw, Grotesquerie, Dark Artisan, and Scalpel Squadron. Trust me, spend time to master DE, it is very rewarding I am able to finally go up against competitive builds and win a majority of them. You really do become a better player and you will appreciate it in the long run. | |

| I actually got 5 Talos pain engines now, only 1 is painted tho.. They are hard to painting when they are assembled, getting in and under the armor.. they look very nice tho and most ppl fear / respect them. They do cost a lot of points to field, but I should give them a try! Scalpel Squadron for keeping the armor in reserve if you go second? Max up on Ravagers and lances with the last points? I would just like to win at least 50% of my games.. I will have to try different things and see what works for me. | |

| the 5 talos is a lot of points with ichor injectors it comes out to 650. But let me tell you... That thing will pay for its points. There might be a game or two where it gets wiped off the board in a turn of shooting but the only time I saw that happen was with a Centstar with 5 Gravamp Centurians. And then at that point the point costs for the two units was almost the same. Grav will mess it's day up. The only other time I've lost it unexpectedly was this guy who cast 2 Psychic Shrieks on it and rolled 17 and 14. So Above average rolls for ld 10. It was by pure chance, but hey you play a Dice game for that reason.
Yea the Null Reserve list with Scalpel Squadron is very fun if pulled off correctly.
Generally my lists run like this.
Venom Spam-- 4-6 Venoms (6 at 1850 with just warriors, some people use blasters but they are 18"...)
Melee Anvil-- (talos, CCF, Grots, Incubi Even)
Anti Tank-- If you are lacking on Lances Ravagers and Razorwings offer great AT. Scourges are nice too but they will die the next turn.
Specialty unit-- I like running an Archon with ~4 medusae in a venom with a WWP. The purpose of this unit is a single unit with a specific purpose that you can almost guarantee to work. So Web waying in a venom with 4 templats and an archon with shadowfield will help not grant HWL and you have 12 poison shots shooting with 4 s4 ap3 templates exactly where you need the templates to be.
I've also been toying around with the Imperial Bunker and Grots with IC support. It's fun.
Get some games under your belt. Dont be afraid to play competitive lists and try to learn. If you get stomped by a good player don't blame the dice or sulk in the corner or try to change armies. Ask the player what he thinks you should have done differently. Remember DE is 40k on hard mode people will respect you for that, and once you start winning games with them you will feel really accomplished and then at that point people will fear you even if you don't have tournament wins under your belt.

Cant see how that connects ) You still have to do Edge Highlighting with airbrush )

| I mainly use my airbrush for base coating now, it is only on large models that I use it for edge highlighting. But could use it on Raiders, venoms, pain engines etc. The airbrush edge highlights are to wide for my taste but much faster to paint. I still need practice with airbrush, still only on basic stuff but getting better. | |

| 1. Yes. It is an absolutely awesome looking theme. Luv'ly Razorwing, the blending is perfect and your bullet holes on the wing and the side of the fuselage are fantastic!
2. No. I also hate how long it takes me to paint all of the details, but I find that there no way to really avoid it with DE unless you want lose some of that detail. And that would be a shame with our beautiful models. Once it is all done, it does feel very rewarding.
3. No, especially with their new codex. If you want to play CWE, fine, go ahead. But if you want to consider them as an option to DE, I would definitely say no. We are more of a finesse army and again more rewarding when you get it right. They sound like they might be more of a hammer in the immediate future.
Cheers. | |

| Great looking scheme, keep it going. If you want some variety, you can make some slight changes between the kabals and the cults, or covens.
The only thing looks off is your canopy, it need to be all painted, or have the bars around the glass painted, leaving it all clear from out of the box looks unfinished.

Cheers. Seriously, agree with the rewarding part here. I say it's worth it for sure, you will become a better player.

| Army very slowly coming along... But ran into new problem, didnt see this one coming.. Just a few pics. The new problem is with my venoms.. It did take me some time to paint them, I am not the fastest.. And then I found that they dont fit into my DE custom foam trays from battlefoam. The problem is the flag, it is not far behind.. I have plans to add wyches on the sides of the venoms in time and there is no way that they will fit into the trays. Anyone know a good fast way to cut the trays?? Or have a better idea? Thanks | |
