1850 Covenite Coterie

Currently working on a new army list after about a 3 month hiatus from 40k - real life, once again, getting in the way

Playing around with the Covenite Coterie I'm getting close to settling on;

Urien and the Haemie join the Grotesque unit, increasing the PFP turn by 2 and can either deploy on the board or arrive via deepstrike. The Wracks either deploy inside their Raider, or on the board (within 12" of Urien) keeping the Raiders in reserve. Using "MSU" Talos allows me to keep pushing forward and not risking have 1 big unit (CTC) tied up unexpectedly.

So the list is really really resilient. T7 with a Cronos buffing FnP to 4+ is really hard to give up First Blood. Also If I hide the Raiders (or reserve them) I'm not giving up an easy First Blood score, nor easy KPs, plus keeping a little bit of long range movement up my sleeve.

So questions and comments always welcomed. No events planned as yet but just trying to get as many games in as possible

Urien and a Hamey provide only +1 to the PFP, as their bonus does not stack (Urien's Father of Pain provides a Master of Pain bonus at 12', but other than that it is the same ability). You are very Coven and CC heavy, why not make Talos units into a Corpsethief claw? Scout is a nice bonus and a 5 Talos star is a hard thing for your opponents to deal with. Same with Grots - split them into two squads of 4, add Urien enjoy Grotesquerie bonus, add haemy to the leaderless squad for maximum CC shenanigans or turn the remaning Talos and Cronos into a Dark Artisan formation for maximum "Screw you" value.

And so it... doesn't. Just caught that, thanks. I'll keep that in mind in future games. Don't think it'll change much but we'll see

I've had 2 games already for 2 wins. I do prefer the flexibility of a few small Talos units. They are awesome objective holders (esp in Maelstrom) and my local meta is full of fast moving/deepstriking units and other MCs. CTC having Scout is awesome, and they will Smash whatever they charge but I do prefer spreading my threats.

Going to try out a different build over my next few games. Problems noted so far; Wracks aren't that good when fighting T4 and above. A Raider isn't a great tool to, not only claim deep backfield objective, but also don't do well at clearing units off them.

Webway Haemie joins one of the Grotesque units. I still have 55 pts to spend on upgrades and havent determined Warlord yet either (webway or non webway Haemie) but the additions of 2 webway units gives me some great mobility. Next game will be vs a Mech Blood Angels list. I'm not tailoring my list as I'm wanting to keep it fundamentally the same (so that's why no Haywire on the Talos)

I like the second list much better.  One suggestion I would have though is to put Heat Lances on your Talos, to give you some ranged anti-tank.  I run the Corpsethief Claw with a Dark Artisan and have found the twin-linked Heat Lances to be amazingly versatile for killing tanks and heavy infantry as well.  Any vehicle that gets within 15 inches of your Talos will either be Jinking or exploding.  Let your Grot squads focus on killing MEQ/GEQ and send your Talos and Dark Artisan after the heavier stuff like vehicles and TEQ-equivalent.  

Also, one additional thought.  Have you thought about just running a Corpsethhief and Grotesquerie instead of the Coterie?  You're bringing the same amount of models in both formations yet losing out on the special benefits (Latest Experiment buffs for the Grots and extra Victory Points for the Talos) you'd get if you ran the formations.  Just food for thought.
