Reaper Miniatures & GW kit bashing? Empty
PostSubject: Reaper Miniatures & GW kit bashing?   Reaper Miniatures & GW kit bashing? I_icon_minitimeWed Jul 22 2015, 20:41

I have been scooping out models and bits all over GW looking to make myself a trio of female HQ units (two Haemeys and a archon). I've found allot of cool stuff floating around the fantasy line that looks good (expensive but good), but than I stumbled into reaper minitures and found loads and loads of awesome.

However I'm concerned that the scale would'nt be quite right as I plan to use allot of GW dark eldar bits (heads, arms, weapons, more).

Does anyone have any exspiriance working with reaper mini 's to tell me if this would work out?

I've done some fairly extensive stuff with Reaper.
There are two general catches;

First, generally speaking the Reaper minis are 28mm while GW minis are 'heroic' 28mm. What this means is that most GW minis will have larger heads and hands. One almost might say GW is also pushing the size thing a bit, and some argue that they are as large as 30mm sometimes. So, on average, the Reaper minis will be more fine and delicate seeming than a comparable GW mini.

Second, you are also getting to deal with the fact that Reaper has a lot of differing sculptors and lines under one roof, so even within their own lines there can be a little bit of adjustment one way or the other.

Overall though, I do think the two lines can mesh very well together.
Also, looks like I have a few unpainted minis on my desk right now that may help you to consider how they will work;

I have used reaper bodies with at most a little green stuff blending to get the slight size difference to be unnoticeable.

Wow thank you guys!

I found so many models I'd like to use in there line, and they have such a huge selection, I think this will open up allot of great options for me.

What do you guys use to work with the metal models? I have my old GW modeling saw which I have only used sparingly (its always cut a little rough) . I've used metal bits but never really with a whole metal body as my base for a extensive mod (I did quite well working with my old metal obliterators but I wasn't hacking them to peices and everything was easy to blend with some blobs of green stuff flesh)

Any advice for doing more delicate work with metal would be greatly appreciated!  Smile

Most of what I've ever done has been limb/hand swaps and usually just a set of snips and a bit of patience lining it up has worked well for me. Never tried sawing anything metal, though that seems like it would work, albeit you'd need to be careful.

Also, usually, a bit of work with a file afterwards.
