1000pt Friendly Tournament

Hi folks. It's been a while since I've walked these halls, but it's always good to be back. Some friends and I have arranged a little tournament towards the end of year for our regular meet at Warhammer World. I spent some time agonising over which MEQ army to take with me, Marines, Chaos Marines or Tyrant's Legion? Then I thought why bother? Stick with your first love. I've always enjoyed playing Dark Eldar the most and making a list is always fun, never a chore. So here I am trying something a bit new for me, Venoms!

Tournament set up is simple enough. 1000pts each, no LoW, no unbound. The only additional rule is "no unique characters or items", so no one per army gear.

Like I said, its a friendly set up and most of us aren't serious power gamers. (One is but he's promised to keep in the spirit of things on threat of not being allowed in Bugmans ). That said, I'm still going for the win. Only army's I'm sure will be there are Dark Angels and Imperial Guard. Everyone else has enough armies it's hard to predict although I'm guessing MEQ mostly, but demons and tau are possible.

The list is a bit of a departure from my norm as I'm used to running gunboats in bigger games but I've struggled to justify them at this point level. It also leaves me with less bodies than I'm used to which is a little nerve racking. I think I've achieved some balance between anti-tank and anti-infantry so I'm happy there. And I know from previous experience at least half the group struggles with fliers (beyond that the Razorwing is just too pretty ).

All thoughts are welcome! Personally I'm still debating swapping mono-scythe for Necrotoxin, but that might just be habit. I'm also on the fence over running it as CAD or Realspace Raiders.

It's a solid list and I don't see anything inherently wrong with it. You might want to consider finding more ways to force jink though especially knowing ravenwing will be present. Not much room for change I realize though.

Hmm Disi's on the razorwing and hwg on the succubus might be worth considering depending on what else you expect. The problem is guard and ravenwing are polar opposites potentially so it's hard to cover both bases. Hwg on the warriors might be another option worth thinking on at this level, again not sure how you'd get points. Changing the incubi's ride to a boat goes against your new venom thing but I'd lean towards it for multiple reasons.. more hp, disi cannon, lower cost.

In this context though I don't see any point in going RSR, stick with the CAD and roll twice on strategic.

Necros in this instance really boils down to wounding bikes on 2s vs ignoring guard armour, at least of what you know will be present.

I like it. I'm not found of the Incubbi, but at this point level, they sure are great.

I like the list. Only thing I would change is give the Incubi a raider instead of a venom and give it sails. List looks great. Keep it CAD

Cheers for the feedback folks. I've tweaked the combat section of the list as per recommendations. Changing the Incubi's ride back to a Raider was a good shout, it also means I only need to buy one extra Venom not two. I always forget that Raiders have dissies as standard these days, should help deal with pesky bikers.

I'll keep it CAD and Monoscythe for now and try and get some practice games in with the list. There's never much wiggle room at 1000pts so I'll just have to get used to the list.
