Attaching wings to a model Empty
PostSubject: Attaching wings to a model   Attaching wings to a model I_icon_minitimeTue Sep 15 2015, 15:22

I have a model (a mandrake), and a pair of wings that I want to attach (small ones that come in the Vargheist kit), but I'm not sure as to the best way of attaching them.

Has anyone got any advice/suggestions?

Model (I'm thinking the left one, but can use any of the three, really):

Spoiler:

Wings (the small ones on its back):

I would flatten the area you need to attach the wing to and then pin them in place. I use paperclips for all my pinning. They would be liable to break off easily if you don't pin them

I would also definitely pin them, most probably to his shoulder blades on the back. THen green stuff to mooth the fold, then more to cover the break in the Mandrake's hair.

Thanks, guys. Here's where I'm at now:

Spoiler:

In case it's not clear, I tried to sculpt some hair on his back around the wing muscles. You may also have noticed a change of weapon.  Wink

I haven't selected a left arm for him yet (not sure whether to use his arm, or one from one of the other mandrakes).

Anyway, one other question - assuming that I do his body and wing muscles in the traditional coal-black, what colour should I use for the wing membranes? Any suggestions?

looks awesome Shredder Smile
Is he intended to be a mandrake, or will be become another unit after his transformation?

As for wing colour, whats the rest of your armies scheme? if your not going with the rest of the army, then how about a pale flesh colour?

Thanks.

He's intended as an HQ. His grand scheme, stretching across millennia, is to wait for GW to allow him to actually purchase his wings.

The rest of my army is eclectic. I bought most of it off one of my friends, and since I hate painting most of it is still painted in his colours. The stuff I've actually painted myself is mostly black, generally with purple/blue highlights/details.

Frankly, I'd probably be better off basing my army's colour scheme off this guy. Razz

Anyway, pale flesh is an interesting idea. I hadn't actually considered that.
