Archon plus Sslyth

For those of you who use an Archon with Sslyth bodyguard, I have a few questions for you:

1) How many Sslyth?

2) How do you kit out the Archon? Do you go for melee, shooting or a bit of both?

3) How do you use the unit? Do you aim to get into melee and just shoot up your target a bit before charging? Or, do you mainly fly around shooting and occasionally charge something?

I don't quite meet all the criteria since I don't add an archon but I do use sslyth court. I feel this is relevant because to me the main reason to take a sslyth court is in place of an archon.

I like 2 lhamaeans 4-5 sslyth. I play them as a bully unit that can beat on plenty of non combat units if needed while being capable of putting out solid shooting and snap shooting at FMCs if necessary.

IF you use enough of them (I'd say 3 or more), a get a raider with splinter racks... It really improves the shard carbine potential, including overwatch.

Their number... Depends on what you want from them. They give you good offensive power in shooting but also defensive potential, which is boosted if they join an Archon (much like grotesques but with a 5+ save and smaller footprint). Their melee is also wonderful against non combat units, even without grenades, and AV10. In the latter ase, give the archon a combat equipment. Never a blaster, I'd say, but HWG may be more interesting than with any other unit.

I'm the outlier here. I spend too many points on things I shouldn't because I like the things. And stuff.

When it's an Archon bodyguard unit, I take:
No less than 4 Sslyth. 5 Usually.
1 Medusa (because that's all I own)

I don't bother taking:
Splinter racks (because I like combat better. DE are better at shooting, but WHATEVA! IDOWHATIWANT!)

I always charge. If I could charge before turn 1, I would. I kit my Archon out too much - weapon, invuln, soul trap, relic. I've recently been trialing a new competitive list and have been using the Animus Vitae - the 50/50 chance of bumping up the PFP count in a tournament setting is too delicious not to consider.

I can relate. It's the reason I'm using actual HQs, rather than just Lhamaeans.

I have never used just a lhammy. If I wanted to have an auto win list and play nothing but the CWE game of "Here's my army, now I win. Thanks, GG. kthxbye" I'd take the lhammy in venom, 4 kabalite squads with venoms, 2 razorwings, 3 ravagers and call it a day.

I prefer my archon. At the moment he rocks a shadowfield, soul trap, huskblade, blast pistol, and vitae. And rolls with 3 grotesques (because I've almost finished converting them). He's 170 points - 100 points more than people think he's worth - but I like a challenge

I almost always use an archon myself but I have certain builds where I don't. A sslyth court is one of those times. Taking an archon almost always means I'm taking grots to bunker him. However if I wanna load up on T5 units and still have an army I've found I can do it by putting them into compulsory slots so I take sslyth in place of the archon.
