PostSubject: New to Dark Eldar   New to Dark Eldar I_icon_minitimeFri Apr 08 2016, 20:58

Hi Guys,

New to the forum and Dark Eldar here, but I was hoping for some help from my fellow players.

I used to play in 2014 with a pretty competitive Dark Angels army, and ended up mostly sweeping my local meta. Life came along and decided I do not get to have time to play much, but am now returning to my love of 40k. I have always loved Dark Eldar, and am excited to get going.

Does anyone mine helping me get a general idea of how to start(tactics wise) and how I should build my list?

Currently I am sitting in 1500 to 1850 range, and am thinking Raider/Ravager/Venom with scourges and incubi.

Has anyone had any success or know if it is worth it to bring Eldar allies with Wraithguard in a serpent and WWP?

Would love some help and ideas as to how to build my list and expand my knowledge.

Also I apologize if I posted this in the wrong place!

I would post what models you currently own/your budget and what type of army you want to build (casual, competitive, or fluffy? what rules you may have to follow?) over in the army list section.

I use battlescribe to help me look at formations and stuff without having all the books.

You should definitely start with some warriors and which ever transport picks your fancy. Almost everything requires a transport vehicle, so you can't go wrong. Also, the venom with dual splinter cannons puts out a lot of dakka

quick note with transports, never buy raiders. Always buy ravager and magnatize the bits that make it a ravager. It will save you a lot of money.

Are you mad? Of course buy Raiders. They cost ten bucks less than a Ravager and you can get two of those for one Ravager point wise. You get two lances instead of three that you can't shoot anyway if you are planning to move properly.

I have to agree with CptMetal.
Magnetizing the side weapons to make it a Raider is not a bad idea, but a complete Dark Eldar army is going to include two or three Ravagers at most, and many more Raiders.

Must be a German thing then, because I actually agree with Sully. There are plenty of ways to build a list with more than 3 ravagers. I've personally built lists in the past that had up to 9. For instance:

2 Identical CADs

2 Lhameans w/ dual cannon venoms 150
4x Units of 5 Kabalite Warriors in dual cannon venoms 420
>>>>>>>>>>>>> 1 Sybarite(Warlord) w/ a Phantasm Grenade Launcher 20
6x Triple Lance Ravagers 750

1 Realspace Raiders Detachment
(Used this instead of CAD due to army construction houserules typically banning 3 CADs)

1 Lhamean 10
2x units of 5 Kabalite warriors in dual cannon venoms 210
3x triple lance ravagers 375
1 dual cannon venom(fast attack) 65
TOTAL: 1850

This is a very quick, casual, and easy to use list built in 3 minutes using 9 ravagers. It'd be effective against almost any list in the current meta that didn't include gargantuan creatures. Even in the meta that DOES include limited LoWs like wraithknights, this list is exactly the correct number of lance shots to average killing a wraithknight in cover every round: 27.

So over 100 splinter shots every round, and 27 dark lances, all at 24-36 inches range on fast skimmer chassis. These types of lists are noob friendly and make for relatively quick games when compared to psychic shenanigans, split fire, and other types of deathstars because they're brute force lists without lots of tiny infantry models to fiddle with.

It's really easy to complete your turn when all you have to do is move and shoot.

check bits stores and ebay, even if you are never going to use the side guns, you can actually sell them for a profit.   Plus you get way more options when it comes to customizing each one. Not saying dont use raiders, I am saying buy ravagers and magnetize what makes it (not a raider) so you can add it, turning it into a ravager, or take it off, making it a raider again.

Raider: $31.00
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Warhammer-40k-Dark-Eldar-Raider-NIB-/361456413414?hash=item54287b2ae6:g:098AAOSwQItUFx03

Ravager: $37.00
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Warhammer-40k-Dark-Eldar-Ravager-NIB-/121667759861?hash=item1c53f6aef5:g:AOMAAOSwT6pVqHx3

The bits to convert a raider into ravager: $10.00 the catch is that they are always SOLD OUT. (you could probably sell them on ebay for a hell of a lot more, hell I will literally buy this from you for $10
http://hoardobits.com/cgi/hob/shop.pl?cat1=Bits&cat2=Warhammer%2040k&cat3=-Dark%20Eldar&cat4=%3ERavager&page=&view=03082013-3-1

I was pretty mad at myself for not researching this prior to buying 3 raiders.  Even if you bought 9 ravagers you would have the option of any combination of 9 ships being ravagers or raiders, no matter your meta and no matter the edition.  Bonus being all the extra sails and other cool bits that the ravager gets.  makes converting other DE stuff a lot cheaper not having to buy the bits.

And how do you plan on converting the Ravager? I get that you can magnetize the side guns but what about the stuff where it is attached to?

Skys the limit brotha.

use your imagination.  It is such a biased question to ask someone how they would personally convert something.  Me, I did it similar to this video:

https://youtu.be/u7Iuno4-XM8?t=11m3s

You can literally magnetize everything that makes it a ravager as the ravager kit comes with all raider AND ravager bits.

You have so many posts I cant tell if you are just messing with me lol. There are literally posts on this forum discussing this.  Its also the first video that comes up when you google it. Im confused.  scratch

If you're messing with me, jokes on me. If not, you should check out the http://eyeoferror.blogspot.com/ Its a blog with tons of dark eldar conversion. Great for inspiration.

It's an honest question. The problem I see is the plank that holds the gun, the rest can be magnetized.

And I am at work right now and can't listen to videos or have a big search for that topic.

I'm not you're brother, mate. ;-P

And thanks for the link!

The video explains the plank question. A good video about magnetizing raiders/ravagers generally. Made by our very own kiblams it seems.
I'm kicking myself for not thinking of magnetizing the tiller/pilot like that.

To answer Mabeibefunnys question,
Must include, in my opinion
( in case you want to run double CAD... and you do )
2x lhameans ( maybe add or swap one for an archon or succubus )
20x warriors ( with transports, venoms AND raiders, but always more venoms than raiders )
3x+ ravagers. ( i.e. 2 lance 1 disintegrator )

Incubi are fun, but hard to use. If you want easier to use CC units try grotesques.
Scourges are awesome. I use 7 models pr squad with 4 special weapons.

Because everything they have is better and cheaper than our stuff, it always "worth it" to take
craftworld eldar... if you don't mind paying with your soul.  Wink

Look in the tactics section of this forum under GRISLY TROPHY:DARK ELDAR GUIDES for lots of great articles about tactics.

I apologize for bringing this old comment back, but can someone clarify where we can see that Raiders and Venoms are Assault vehicles? I had thought they were(unless I am mistaken), but do not see them in our codex.

They are open-topped and all open-topped vehicles are assault vehicles.
